  • Exiting the Blue Ridge Parkway?

In a few weeks, on the way back home from vacation, we are traveling the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have looked and have not found much information about how to exit the parkway for food and gas. Are there exits or intersections that get you to civilization? How often can you exit, approximately?

  • Helicopter Ride Medically Necessary?

My son was admitted to a local hospital for trouble breathing and diabetic ketoacidosis. After five hours, they decided they had to transport him so he could receive treatment. The insurance will cover the flight if it was medically necessary, but they are stating that it was not. At the time, we questioned the need for a helicopter and were told that there was no ground transport available for a few hours.

Does insurance auto-reject such claims? They accepted the local ambulance ride to the helicopter, but not the helicopter. Would seem to me if one was medically necessary, the other would be. Right now, I am staring at a $16000+ bill. I do plan to write an appeal letter, but any other advice?

  • Stats: Permutation or Combination?

Four members from a 50 person committee are to be selected randomly to serve as chairperson, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer. • Statistics: Random Selection?

A hospital has been infected with 3 different viruses. The probability that a patient gets Type I virus is .75, the probability that a patient gets Type II virus is .42, and the probability that someone gets Type III virus is .11. Assume that getting the viruses are independent of one another. Compute the probability that a patient selected at random will contract:

    1. Type I and Type II, but not Type III

    2. Type II or Type III

    3. All 33 viruses

    4. None of the viruses

*I am double checking answers. I am curious to see if they are done right so I am not looking for the formula, just an extra set of eyes on the problem.

  • Statistics: Binomial Prob. Distribution homework problem.?

A student takes a multiple choice exam with 10 questions, each with 4 possible selections for the answer. A passing grade is 60% or better. Suppose that the student guesses at each question. Find the probability that the student:

    a. gets at least one question correct.

    b. passes the exam.

    c. gets an A on the exam (90% or better)

    d. How many questions would you expect the student to get correct?

I know the formula but have no idea how to apply it with the numbers given. Not looking for answers as much as I am the process.

  • FAFSA question regarding SSI income?

I am receiving SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) due to advanced rheumatoid arthritis. I am going to school to further my education so I may get off of SSDI. A question on the FAFSA form asks if a person is receiving SSI. Would SSDI fall into that category? Or do they just want SSI, since that is based on income rather than disability?

  • Coulomb's Law problem?

Two pellets, each with a charge of 1 microcoulomb (10^-6), are located 3cm (.03m) apart. Show that the electric force between them is 10N.

I tried the F=k*(q1)(q2)/d2 but got something to a very high exponent.

  • How to calculate mass when given temperature?

A small block of ice at 0 celsius is subjected to 10g of 100 celsius steam and melts completely. Show that the mass of the block of ice can be no more than 80g.

(I tried the Q=m(delta)TC formula, tried equally the two, and neither worked. I have to be missing something. The professor didn't go over formulas like this.)

  • Specific heat capacity question?

The specific heat capacity of ice is about .5cal/g celsius. Suppose it remains at that value all the way to absolute zero. Show that the heat required to change a 1g ice cube at absolute zero to 1g of boiling water is 320cal.

(I tried the Q=m(delta)TC formula, tried equally the two, and neither worked. I have to be missing something)

    a. toward the east

    b. toward the west

    c. directly vertically downward

    d. zero

I got this question wrong on my test and along with the answer would like a brief explanation so I can understand the material better.

  • Physics: Inverse-Square Law?

Many people mistakenly believe that the astronauts who orbit the Earth are above gravity. Earth's mass is 6x10^24kg, and its radius is 6.38x10^6m. Use the inverse-square law to show that in space shuttle territory, 200km above Earth's surface, the force of gravity on the shuttle is about 94% that at Earth's surface.

  • Florida teacher continuing education?

I will graduate in 2010 with a dual certification to teach elementary education and special education in Maryland. However, I am looking to move to Florida either immediately, or within a few years of graduation. In Maryland, you must get your Masters by your tenth year of teaching in the school system.

What are the continuing education requirements in Florida? Do you have to obtain additional course work? If so, what and how long do you have to obtain it?

  • When to take your BBT when you get up several times a night?

I usually go to sleep by 11pm and wake up about 7am. Without fail, I get up at least once during the night to use the bathroom, usually between 4 - 6am. With these interruptions, would I be able to get an accurate BBT reading? If so, when would I take the BBT reading?

  • Hotel: 3 different prices but charged another?

I stayed in a hotel this past weekend. When I first made the online reservation the price was $1649. I dropped a day but the total room rate changed dramatically giving me a charge of $647. After I noticed a larger pending charge on my credit card, which was eventually charged $945, the online past charges showed $1154 to be charged.

I am going to call this morning after my class but what can be done about this if not easily fixed? I have three confirmations, all with different total amounts and different room rates ($199, $329, $349), to which the $349 was what I was charged. I did not get a receipt from the hotel.

  • Solving Rational Expressions help!?

    2/(x-5) + 1/(2x) = 5/(3x^2 - 15x)

This is a practice question for an upcoming quiz in Intermediate Algebra. I had ended up with X= 11, and X= 10/3 but neither of those answers fit. When I tried another method to solve I could not factor the polynomial, so I was stuck.

    Can anyone help?

  • Becoming a teacher with a disability?

I am currently going to school to receive my degree in elementary education. So far I am a straight A student and received wonderful marks on my Praxis exam. I also happen to have rheumatoid arthritis, which sometimes renders me to a wheelchair. My wish is to teach anywhere from 4th to 8th graders. How will this effect my ability to get employed?
