Roses Crüe

I bought a brand new iPhone 4 yesterday and today when i try to sync it to my iTunes, it didn't work. My phone and iTunes are completely up to date and when i plugged in my iPod, it synced fine. when i plug my phone into the computer a ring goes off saying it is connected, But it seems my iTunes is not detecting it? Help!

I have tried the home+power/lock button way, but it just ends up locking my phone. I have also tried the volume down+ power/lock button and that either changed my volume settings or locks my phone. Am I not doing it right? Or can you do it on this phone?
