  • Realistic goal for 3k time?

My current 3,000m (2 mile) time is a little over 16 minutes. My goal is to get it below 13 minutes, which seems to be the lower average of most serious runners.

How much time would be a realistic expectation within the 4th week and the 8th week?

What are some exercise training techniques to improve 2 mile time that people do? Currently, I have only found out some terminology such as tempo run, 8 x 800m (and other interval), and hill sprints. Most guides involving running seems to be geared towards 5k, half/full marathon, or "couch to 5k".

What are some good training schedules that experienced runners on this board can share? I also have access to treadmill, though I do hear a lot of conflicting information in regarding the effectiveness of treadmill compared to outdoor running.

  • Memorable running cadences.?

Does any prior or current servicemen/women have had a sergeant who have had the enjoyment of going on a run to a very creative use of an existing song, that got used as a running cadence? I'm getting tired of cadences like "When my grandma was 91" or "C130".

I noticed a Marine on youtube did a series of running cadences, with one about "wine women and neckbones" which is apparently from a fraternity chant. I wanted to know if anyone has something similar to that.

  • Aesthetics vs. play to win?

This question sparked mostly due to the issue I have with Judo, but can be applied to other combat sports as well.

As some of my fellow Judokas on this board knows, Judo rules changes over time. Such as how we are no longer allowed to use techniques that grabs the leg. The change was made to prevent more "bad Judo", where opponents will use brute force to win, rather than using the concept of "kuzushi" that Judokas should strive to master.

I'm sure everyone seeing the high flying textbook throws done by Kosei Inoue and Toshihiko Koga. However, should one focus on winning at all cost, or trying to win utilizing the teachings of the style?
