Will you discuss Ecclesiastes with me, please?
I've recently found a 'church home,' and I'm beginning my own Bible study. Because I remember a passage from Ecclesiastes that has great personal meaning for me, I decided to begin there. As an English teacher (now retired), I taught passages from Genesis and Job as literature; therefore I think the best route for me to take in my study is a literary one.
So I went to Wikipedia for some background information and insight into various areas of controversy about the possible author/s of Ecclesiastes.
What other aspect/s should I consider before going to the (Biblical) text itself?
ADDED INFO: I spent many years believing myself to be an atheist. I know now that I definitely believe in a Higher Power and have begun attending a Presbyterian church. I have a lot of catching up to do.
1 AnswerHistory1 decade agoHow can i find the question, when I've found the answer and forgot to save the question?
Someone asked a question about the music in the movie HAIR. The problem was, he/she was looking for the wrong lyrics. I've found the answer but lost the question. Now THIS is frustration! ;P lol
6 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhat do you regret most of all -- the things you did, or the things you didn't do?
I've been doing some New Year soul searching, and I've found that the HUGE mistakes that I regret today were sins of omission: times that my gut told me what I should do, but I ignored my instincts in the interest of 'not rocking the boat' or some such nonsense.
I can rationalize every one, and I had different 'reasons,' such as respect for my mom, not wanting to start a huge argument, trying to be diplomatic, etc....but another way to look at this is I'm a non-confrontational coward.
While I'm busy kicking myself around the block, I'm also wondering "Am I alone in this, or do others feel this way too?" So I'm asking.
Thanks! :)
PS...I'm 64 years old, so I have a lot of years to mull over. LOL
7 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoHow can I find my Y! answer when I've foolishly lost it?
I love answering questions about literature, especially about works I have enjoyed studying and/or teaching. Just now it happened again (for the second time in an hour or so): I was almost finished with my response to a question, when i pressed a wrong button or hit a wrong key, and it all POOFED.
The 'back' arrow doesn't work. What else should I try?
Thanks so much for any attempt to clue me in. :)
2 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhy was killing a rat a capitol crime in ancient Egypt?
I believe this is true, but I wonder why. I know that the ancient Egyptians considered the cat sacred, so possibly they also considered the rat sacred.
But the cat would kill a rat, so the law must apply only to humans. And if the Egyptians decided to make the rat sacred, they must have had a reason.
I'm thinking they either experienced something like the plague that hit Europe thousands of years later, or they had knowledge of rabies.
Can you find the answer?
