  • In what ways do you want your child to be different from you?

As parents it is our job to teach proper manners, behaviors and values to our children and pass on certain traits. I don't think I am a bad person but there are certain things (like personality traits or things I have done) that I don't want my children to do. For instance, I want my kids to think less about what others think than I do and I don't want my kids to smoke. I have many more but I was just wondering what things about yourself do you not want your kids to inherit or what things have you done that you don't want them to do?

  • Food ideas for a birthday party?

am planning my daughter's 1st birthday and it is going to be a barbeque. Barbeque's work really well for my family because I have a large family and being outdoors is more convenient. Also, because it works so well for us, we have several of them during the summer and I am burnt out on the typical barbeque food like potato salad, macaroni salad, etc. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or recipes for unique side dishes to spruce up my menu? Thanks a bunch!

  • Infection that doesn't seem to be going away?

Parents help me out! You have the best answers!

About a month ago, I had a sinus infection and took augmentin. Two weeks ago I started developing symptoms of pink eye in my left eye so the Dr. have me antibiotic drops. I stayed on the drops for about 3 days when the infection spread to my other eye and my throat started to bother me. Went back in and they told me that I had a periorbital cellulitis in my left eye, pink eye had spread to my right eye and I had pharyngitis. They gave me augmentin again. My eye symptoms started about 2 weeks ago and are not gone and seem to be getting worse. The past couple of days I have been really fatigued and have absolutely no energy at all.The doctor told me to keep taking the augmentin and call on monday. Has anyone had an experience similiar. It just concerns me a little because my fatigue seems to be extreme and it is unusual for me. (BTW no matter how much sleep I get, it doesn't go away)

  • Question about summary judgment?

My husband and I are defendants in a civil lawsuit. Due to our financial situation, we had to part ways with our attorney because we simply couldn't afford him anymore. We filed a motion for continuance on our trial to find a less expensive attorney or get legal aid and was denied. The judge gave the plaintiff the 45 days to file summary judgment but they did not file and the time has expired. My question is what do we do now that they haven't file? Do we wait for a trial date or will the judge even set one? Can we ask for dismissal since the did not file summary judgment?

  • At my target weight. Still have belly fat.....any suggestions?

I asked this in diet and fitness with very little answers. I seem to get great responses in this section. I had my second baby 6 months ago. When I brought my daughter home I weighed 161 lbs. Since giving birth I have dieted, I run 30 minutes 3-4 times a week, take a core conditioning class 3 times a week and do circuit training 1-2 times a week. I have gotten to my target weight of 115 lbs ( I am 5' 2"). I am happy with my upper and lower body. They are toned and have no fat but I still have a layer of fat on my belly. I know that the only way to lose this is cardio but my husband thinks I shouldn't run as much because he doesn't want me to lose too much weight and thinks any more and I will look to skinny. Any suggestions on how to lose the belly fat?

  • Are step-parents treated unfairly?

I know I asked this earlier but I am hoping to get more responses and maybe responses from people who weren't online earlier.

I have 2 children of my own and I am a step-mother to my husbands 13 year old daughter. Her father and I have been together since she was 6. When she is with us, I am the one who does a majority of the parenting. I am expected by her mother and my husband to treat her as though she were one of my own children and provide for her the same. Which I do. I am very hands on with her and always have been. When it comes to any decisions regarding her care, her mother tells he that it isn't my business because she isn't my daughter. When it comes to finances, my husband pays child support but his ex constantly is asking for more. When she asks for more, my husband and I always discuss it and decide if we can give it to her. If we can afford it and if it is something his daughter needs than we will give it to her but most often it is frivolous and we don't. Again, she tells me that it is none of my business because it is their daughter. I completely disagree. My and my husbands finances are definitely my business. His child support is based off of his income so the extras usually come from mine. Not to mention the fact that we have 2 other children to support. Do you think this is fair? Is she or am I out of line? If you are a step-parent do you think you are treated fairly? If you are a parent and have children with a step parent how do you feel? Do you think a step-parent should have some input on parenting and finances?

  • Question for women who use Mirena?

I had my IUD inserted in Dec 08. My doctor told me that I would probably have lighter periods or not have them at all. I continue to have periods but they are longer than before. My periods before were between 4-5 days. I am now on my 8th day of my period. I just wanted to know other women's experiences with Mirena. Did you stop having your period? If so, after how long? If you still had you period is it effected at all. I know this is women's health but I get better answers in this section. Thanks!

  • If money wasn't an issue, how many kids would you have?

I'm just curious. I have two wonderful babies and have decided not to have anymore. While I think right now I could financially handle another child when I think of expenses as they got older like cars, proms, weddings, college..etc. I think it is best that I not have anymore. If I had more money I would definitely have at least one or two more. How many other parents feel like this. Just curious!

  • Question for African American mothers?

I am caucasian and my husband if african american. I have a five month old daughter and need serious help with her hair. I am not completely clueless because I have a 13 year old stepdaughter and know how to do her hair but I am not sure with an infant. My daughters hair isn't long enough yet to do much with but I try to use bows, head bands, etc. Her hair is pretty fine and curly on top and the back is a thicker texture. My husband has told me not to put any product on her hair and I haven't but it is really dry. What is a good shampoo to use because Johnsons seems to really dry her hair out. Is my husband right that I shouldn't use any products? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
