  • How much should we get for pain and suffering?

My husband and I were driving on the expressway when a pickup truck swerved left into our lane to avoid a car coming left into his lane. The truck slammed into the side of our car causing us to go left across 2 lanes and slam head first into the median and then flip vertically. My injuries are: strained neck, bruised and strained wrist, sprained ankle, one bruised knee and one severely bruised knee (not sure how much pain it will cause me and the pain is only starting because it was numb), bruised left ribs, muscle weakness in my hands and arms (I can type, but it is difficult to write or left thing), and muscle pain in my back. Something MAY be wrong with my liver, but we just got the CT scan done last night and I don't know the results yet. My husband's injuries are: strained neck, an abrasion/bump to his forehead, a deep cut in his wrist that required 8 staples, pain in his hip, soreness in his knees and his stomach is black and blue from the seat belt. We were both taking to the emergency room at the time. He is unable to work (does manual labor lifting up to 75 lbs at a time). I will be going back to work after 1 1/2 weeks off. We contacted an attorney about suing for pain and suffering, but does ANYONE know what amount we would be looking at? The attorney hasn't mentioned a number yet. I'm just curious as I have never dealt with anything like this before.

  • Do some people just have prominent greater trochanters?

My greater trochanters stick out really far. I mean REALLY far. I can't wear any type of dress or skirt that is form fitting because I feel like I look deformed. I've tried to research this online, but have had little success. The only thing that comes up is 'Trochanteric Bursitis' and I really don't think that's it. I don't walk around with pain or anything. There is no popping or grinding. Doesn't feel swollen. Sometimes there is pain in that area if I lay on my hip in a weird way for a long time, but that's it. I played sports through college with no problems. They've been like this as long as I can remember, but no one has really said anything to me about it - but of course I didn't wear clothes that make it obvious. It's not fat. It doesn't matter if I'm super in shape (as I was in college) or a little chunky (it's 9 years later and I have two children). Do some people just have very prominent greater trochanters? I'm not trying to be shallow, I'm just curious.

  • Question about WIC income verification?

I am now receiving WIC in KY. I just started getting it 3 months ago when my husband's hours at work got cut. Hopefully we won't need it much longer. But this is my question - I was told we have to verify our income every 6 months. I went to the 3 month appointment last week. I have to go back next month to take my youngest for his 1 year appointment. The woman told me I need to be bringing my proof of income at every appointment, not every 6 months. She said this is because I don't receive government health care and have my own private health insurance. Does this seem right? Seems discriminatory to me. My sister was on WIC for about a year when her husband was laid off and they still maintained private health insurance under her employer and she was not made to bring her proof of income at every appointment. I feel like I'm being treated unfairly. Is it because I don't to appointments dressed in pajama pants and a tank top that they assume I make more then I'm claiming?

  • signs of diabetes in infants?

all the sites I read state one symptom of diabetes in infants is drinking and urinating a lot/more than normal. So what is considered a lot? My son is 7 weeks and can drink 12 ounces in an hour and a half at times. He also has pretty heavy diapers, but I would expect that considering how much he eats. He spits up often. He's not underweight and is actually a pretty big boy (about 13 lbs already). Do you think he just eats so much because he's a big baby? I've just never seen a baby his age eat so much. My other son was also a big baby, but still didn't eat so much. I'm not overly worried, just curious and looking for information.

  • Help with breaking son from bottle?

My son just turned 2. His doctor basically ordered us to stop giving him a bottle. We were only giving him a bottle at nap time, bed time and if he was having a melt down and needed it to calm down for 2 minutes. He can be a very difficult child at times and the bottle is the only thing that will calm him down...even if it's just a couple ounces. Last weekend I tried to put him to bed without a bottle and his 9:30 bedtime lasted till 3am. We decided to attempt the no bottle thing again today..which resulted in no nap and when I laid him down to sleep tonight (he started falling asleep early because of no nap) he became violent with me because I wouldn't give him a bottle. He was screaming and crying, slamming his door...I tried comforting him and he just kept hitting me.

Am I wrong for wanting to tell the doctor, "sorry, but he's just not ready"? Or should I just stick with it and hope for the best? I know this will be a long process..not something that will be over with in a week. It took us 5 months to get him to sleep at a reasonable hour....he's so stubborn. I feel like it's not worth putting us all through so much stress and sleepless nights....your thoughts?? He has a blankie but it doesn't help with comforting him when he wants a bottle. And I already know the milk is bad for his teeth at night. He also refuses to take water or anything else in his bottle.

  • My toddler keeps grabbing/scrapping at his tongue...?

My son is 23 months. For several months now, he will stick his fingers in his mouth and pull/scrape at his tongue, like there is something in his mouth, like a hair or something. He acts like something is bothering him, not like he's playing. Every time I check, there is nothing there. He'll even wipe his arm across his mouth (like he would do if his mouth was dirty and he was wiping it off on his sleeve), with his tongue out as if he's wiping it off. It's never white so I don't suspect thrush or anything like that. No other odd behaviors. Any idea why he does this? I'll bring it up at his doctor's appointment next month.

  • Toys-R-Us return question?

I bought a powerwheel for my son. The box hasn't been opened yet. It's been 2 weeks and the product went on sale for $30 cheaper. Can I take it back for the difference or do I have to return it ans then purchase it again. If that is the case, will they refund the warranty I bought on it as well?? Or do I lose that money??

  • Help! Toddler vomitting and diarrhea...?

My 20-month-old has had yellow watery diarrhea for 4 day as well as vomitting. He won't eat and drinks very little. If he tries to drink a lot, he vomits. No fever. While he gets fussy at times, usually he's fine. He'll puke and it won't even upset him. Should I go ahead and take him to the doctor now or wait it out a few more days?

  • Sharp burning pain under my left arm on ribs...?

Today I started having a sharp, horrible burning pain under my left arm on top of my ribs, close to my breast, but not in the breast. I felt the pain this morning, but then not all day until this evening. I was taking a shower and the pain hit me suddenly and so hard I almost cried. It's been coming and going for the past hour now, depending on if I raise my arm, breath in deeply...or whatever. I didn't physically injure myself in any way. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

  • 15 month old losing voice?

My son just had his 15 month check up. Everything was reportedly fine except that one of his ears was still a little red from an ear infection which we took him to the doctor for the week before.

Now he's losing his voice...could this be due to crying or is it maybe a sore throat? If it were a sore throat, wouldn't the ammoxicillin he's on (for the ear infection) treat this as well? When he cries it's a lot weaker than normal and raspy. Comments?

  • My 13 month old climbed out of his crib...safety question...?

So my son's bedroom is upstairs and mine is downstairs. He just climbed out of his crib for the first time today after a nap. A lot of sites say to go ahead and get him a toddler bed. I'm so afraid he's going to get out of his room in the middle of the night and fall down the stairs trying to find me. I have a gate I can put at the top of the stairs, but I don't trust him to not try to climb over that as well. I don't want to put his bed in my room....that will just cause more problems later with having to transition him back into his own room. Any suggestions? Should I just buy one of those nets that go over the top of the crib for now?
