  • I'm looking for a "poem" we just put our dog down?

On Sunday we put our 9 year old Beauceron down. I'm looking for a poem or reading type think to place in a collage of pictures for my boyfriend (it was his dog) Rainbow Bridge doesn't seem to fit. The dog was his best friend, and with him through thick and thin... I'd appreciate any ideas... I'd like to make this really special for him and a tribute to the dog for many years to come.

    Thank you

  • A question about Breed Wardens :-)?

I was listening to a conversation the other day, and breed wardens were brought up, of course the term isn't exactly the same here in the United States as it is in Germany, but what do you think about the idea? Personally I think it's one that should to adopted more to the "T" here. It's an interesting idea... hopefully this question will get your brains working on an interesting level :-) Oh one more part to the question... have you ever dealt with a breed warden?

  • Need a Halloween costume?

Last year I was a "leaf blower", I wore a fedora type hat with a string attached to it, at the end of the string was a leaf, when people asked what I was I blew on the leaf and said... a leaf blower... cute I know. I'd like something similar this year, any ideas? Just cute extremely simple and original.

  • Dogue De Bordeaux Temperments?

Hello all, I'm doing some research for my future dog... drove five hours to visit some Irish wolfhounds at a gathering this weekend (found they aren't the dog for me) Glad I went and found it out though. I thought I wanted another Beauceron (which we have now), but I'd like a dog that's a little better around people other than our immediate family, one I don't have to "worry about" at family get togethers at the pond... thought about a Briard (but that's basically a Beauceron). I'm looking at DDB's and I see that their temperament says that they aren't aggressive. If I do a great job socializing (which won't be a problem) Do you think they would be a great dog... around un threatening strangers and things like that? I don't like that we have to leave our guy at home because he's extremely protective and wary of people.. (he's gotten worse with age). We can't "read" him anymore. I'm sure I've worded this wrong, so if you aren't understanding the question, please ask more :-)

  • Ohio pit bull law, just a question...?

We own a presa, ohio has that stupid pit bull law mandating $100,000 dollar liability ins for pit bulls, or breeds know as pit bulls or pit mixes... does my guy fall under that law. He's not a pit, and he's not a mix... but his ears aren't cropped so he tends to look like a BIG pit bull... I was just wondering the law is sooo vague

  • In the Shutzhund sport or any working sport for that matter...?

My boyfriend has done shutzhund as a hobby sport with our dog for a little under a year, it's been decided that the dog won't progress any further. To the people we train with, this means it's time to re-home the animal and begin to look for another pup that might do better in the sport. I have a hard time with accepting this... You are told to bond with the dog and train it in this sport, how after almost a year of bonding and raising this animal do you just re-home it. The key is to get a dog titled.... this sport being just a "hobby" makes it really hard to go through dogs like a hard core Shutzhund person. How do you distance yourself from a dog, and yet bond and train with it at the same time... without getting attached if things don't "work out" and the only option is to re-home the animal?

  • Irish Wolfhound owners or people familiar with the breed..?

I'm interested in eventually (hopefully) getting one of these amazing hounds, with the recent research I've done I've found a very small amount of breeders in the states. I haven't made any phone calls yet, I was wondering

    A) if you own one what REPUTABLE breeder did you purchase your hound from

    B) if you don't own one but happen to know of a REPUTABLE breeder.

  • Can you help me setup these problems?

For the life of me I can't figure it out... perhaps I've been doing to much math today.

question 1: Betty and Joan together have $1496.00. If Betty has $452.00 more than Joan, how much does Betty have?

Question 2: Rita would like to change a $10 bill into dimes and quarters. She wants to have 12 more quarters than dimes. How many of each should she receive?

I don't need the answers, I just need to know how to set up the stinkin equations... any help would be greatly appreciated

  • How is YOUR dog described?

There are always so many questions on what a breed is like, and too many times I see people saying they don't understand why their dog acts the way it does. The AKC describes my breed with a few words that should "warn" the average buyer that this dog isn't for the first time/un trained dog owner.

Beauceron : "Although he can be reserved with strangers, he is loving and loyal to those he knows. Some will display a certain independence." The AKC notes that this dog may have reservations with strangers... this is something that should be noted by a potential owner. More importantly "certain independence" requires IMO a "certain type of person"

My question is... what "description" for temperment is your dog given... did you take this into consideration when you decided on the breed that you have? Do you think people look at the temperment descriptions and truly absorb what is being said about the breed, or does the information get brushed off of their shoulder

  • Best locations for a lake side vacation?

We have about 17 people that will be going so we need a large cabin to stay in, I'm looking for a lakeside cabin/house to rent, about 6-8 hours from Northwest Ohio... any help would be great.... p.s. one of the people is in a wheel chair, so semi flat land is better, especially for lake access. Thank you in advance for the help!

  • Baby raccoon release?

Alright against my better judgement we took in two baby raccoons that were running along in the middle of the road (mom dead on the side). I'd say they are three to four pounds, unfortunetly the wildlife rehab place near us, euthanizes raccoons on arrival. My question is, when can I release these guys.. we are going to release them in a wildlife refuge... but I'm not sure how soon I can do it. The sooner the better (I don't want them to get tame) and I'm sure they aren't happy in the cage they are in. Can you give any helpful advice?

P.S. I asked this question yesterday with no help so I'm trying again.

  • Breeding = getting rich!?

Why do people assume that breeding things will turn them a great profit? What is your advice to these people. I answer their questions with "breeding isn't a get rich career" look somewhere else to make your money.... I'm sure most agree, but how do *you* answer this type of question!

  • HB 568 Banning of Pit Bulls in Ohio... please help?

This is something that I've just heard about and I'm outraged. If this law passes you'll have 90 days to get rid of your dog. It's intent is to help decrease the amount of dog fight and dangerous dogs. What it will really do is kill innocent dogs, and give the black market and the drug dealers and the gang members no punishment because what they do with these dogs is already illegal.

    Please visit this site www.Nopitbullbans.com

Write a letter to your local representitive urging them not to let a law like this pass. HB568 specifically affects Ohio, but as you see on the page listed above.

To make this a question.... are you going to do the right thing? Use the power that you have, and stop this from happening!

  • Shmeat... and agreement for vegitarians and non...?

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were dicussing the idea of Shmeat... basically a "meat" that is grow from tissue cultures of different animals. PETA (scary) says it's a way to increase animal rights... scientists say it tastes just like the real thing. I myself am not going to switch from my yummy home grown or mega farm grown meat. What's your opinion.... there are more factors to think about as well... what about all the fuel that will need to be used to run the shmeat factories... blah blah blah I just want your basic opinion on this whole freaky idea.
