I am a lefthanded free-thinker, member of the Jaycees, and strongly opinionated. I enjoy movies, comic books and beer. Some of my favorite authors are Donald Westlake, Janet Evanovich, Clive Cussler, Tony Hillerman, Lawrence Block, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett. To borrow a line from one of my favorite characters, "I am always available, but NEVER free."
Why do people think Harry Potter books are so wonderful?
First off, I am not bashing the books. The books are okay, but not exceptional. Frankly, I found too many problems with the stories to elevate it to greatness.
There was no explaination as to why some people are witches/wizards and some are muggles. There was no explaination of the mechanic of magic- I will buy the concept of magical potions being elaborate chemistry, but what about the rest? At least other authors have tried to explain it better.
9 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoWhat other pen names did Donald Westlake use?
According to his website, Donald Westlake wrote under a few pen names. Richard Stark was one of them, but what were the others? Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoWith the passing of Robert B. Parker, who is left as America's top mystery writer?
The American mystery writers are thinning out. Who is left out there to claim the throne? James Lee Burke? Lawrence Block? Sue Grafton? James Patterson? Patricia Cornwell?
Argue your case for your favorite American mystery writer. The only requirements are that they must still be alive as of Jan 20, 2010 and an American citizen by birth or naturalization.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhen will Donald Westlake final book be released?
When Donald Westlake passed away in December, the obituary mentioned he had just completed a book that was due out in the spring.
Does anyone have the details?
Thanks in advance
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhat's your favorite Donald Westlake novel? R.I.P.?
With his passing, I learned I haven't even read a third of his works. His obit claims he wrote over 60 novels under different pen names as well as his own.
Make sure you include the pen name if it wasn't published his own. Thanks.
