  • Woolly worm is WAY too loud! What to do?

Recently a very young woolly worm came to my house saying that he was homeless and had nothing to eat. As I knew that cold weather would soon be upon him, I have taken him in and I have set him up in a very expensive, spacious and well provided for jar in my very own home.

I have been certain to provide food for him in the way of tree leaves, clover and even lettuce. I have given him water in addition to his groceries and even purchased a very nice stick for him to crawl upon.

Everything was fine between us for a while...but he has recently become quiet rebellious....

He has been having loud and raucous parties until very late at night. He has a lot of friends "come over" and I know that he is sexually active as I have seen more than a few female woolly worms leaving his jar early in the morning. I think he may be smoking pot in my house too....

I wish that he would grow up so that I could have some peace and quiet. Maybe then he would turn into a moth and fly away to live his own life, allowing mine to return to normal.

I don't know what else to do....

I don't want to throw him out...but I also don't want to wait until the spring for him to grow up....

I'm would appreciate any good advice from those who have woolly worms or who might have raised them in the past.

    Please help....

  • 01 Explorer Sport "check fuel cap" light random activation?

I have an 01 Ford Explorer Sport with 4x4 automatic. The engine is the 6 cylinder and has 173K miles on it.

At seemingly random times the "check fuel cap" light activates in the instrument cluster panel. The fuel cap is always secure and I have not been able to link the lights activation to any particular cause:

Fuel level does not seem to be a factor.

Weather does not seem to cause it. (note: issue began this winter, so I'm unable to compare with hot weather, but we have had some 50+ degree days and issue shows up)

    Engine temperature not a factor.

Fuel octane rating or purchase location not a factor.

I will be driving and the light illuminates randomly and in the past it has resolved itself within 75 miles or less.

This seems to dramatically increase fuel consumption.

In what may or may not be a related issue:

This vehicle has the "crank/no start" issue common to Ford engines of that time and make.

This issue seems to show up at random times also. It may happen one morning and then not happen again for months.

The crank/no start has never occurred directly with the check fuel cap light.

I have a theory as to the cause of this issue, but I would appreciate any useful input that our readership may have to offer.

  • Have you heard? Olympic Arms is standing up to those who would take our guns!? If you own a gun, read this!?

I got an email yesterday from Cheaper Than Dirt with several stories associated with the newly regenerated gun control debate.

Among the news was a story explaining that Olympic Arms company has released an official statement saying that they will no longer do business with individual organizations who support gun control or band.

The story cited New Yorks fraternal order of police in particular. It seems that the fop in New York has publicly come forward in support of legislation aiming at reinstating the assault weapons ban, limiting magazine capacities and outlawing guns to private individuals in general.

Then, as if this was not bad enough, the fop had the fall to contact Olympic Arms with solicitations for financial support to publish the fops monthly magazine which it distributes to fop members.

Olympic Arms responded with a letter and then public statement telling all and sundry of this story. Additionally, the arms manufacturer has publicly stated that they will no longer sell their guns or accessories to, or do business of any kind with, any individual or organization in the state of New York if they are a fraternal order of police member or member of an organization that supports additional gun control legislation.

As I understand it don't matter if it is an order from a police department or first responder, Olympic Arms will not fill their order.

The operators of Olympic Arms also called on other firearm manufactures to follow their lead in standing up for our second amendment rights.

As most of these news feeds do, this article had a section where readers can leave comments. Reader after reader had left posts in praise of this bold business decision. People from all walks of life, from average Joe to decorated military veterans have voiced their support.

I have added my support for Olympic Arms and I urge you to do likewise.

  • Intermittent heat problem in 01 Ford Explorer Sport?

Searches of this site revealed problems similar to mine but not quiet. Other posters seemed to have no heat at all ever, but I do. Sort of.

The heat in my explorer works sometimes and sometimes not.

I can start the cold engine, watch the temperature indicator rise and turn the heat on. I will have warm heat with plenty of air flow and out of no where, for no obvious reason, the heater air goes frigid cold.

I have air to the floor if I select floor, defrost when selecting defrost etc. This leads me to doubt the plastic gear problem in the selector door issue.

Thinking it wouldn't hurt to have a new thermostat I changed it, using a thermostat rated about 5 degrees cooler. Nothing changed.

Thinking I had a vacuum leak, I did a good examination of each vacuum line I could find. All are in good condition and fastened securely. No difference.

Thinking the fresh air vent was letting in cold air from outside, I watched it work while turning the selector knob. It works perfectly but I still had the heat problem.

I have plenty of coolant in the radiator and I have never had any issues with overheating.

At this point, I am looking at tearing into the dash and looking for some cause there, but I am not looking forward to it. That is going to be difficily.

    LET ME ADD!!!

This is likely a separate and unrelated issue:

I have the Ford intermittent crank no start issue too. Whereas this issue classically happens in hot weather, it happens to me in cold weather. At least so far. It happens about once ever 2 months.

After I crank until the battery is weak and I get a boost, it starts right up. Every time.

If this crank no start was battery related, it would happen all the time...right?

Could this be related to the heat problem? Personally I doubt it.

    But....

So I need the help of our learned community.

What am I missing? The answer is probably so obvious that I'm looking over it.

I'm freezing my butt off, so I will entertain any reasonable suggestions.
