  • Do people get type casted in the kind of jobs that they can get?

Remember back in the 70's and 80's when a lot of child actors would get type casted as only child actors that when they grew up, their careers in Hollywood were pretty much over.

What about people who have been doing one kind of work for 10 even 20 years? I finally got another glorified data entry job after a year of sending out resume after resume, playing the online job lottery. I've applied for everything from retail, sales, entry level manufacturing, housekeeping, etc. But since my previous experience has been customer service/data entry, I only ever heard from 4 companies that were interested in me based on my previous work experience. Only one of them hired me, but not even for the job I interviewed for. Many of you will say that I should be grateful for another dead end, living paycheck to paycheck, no extra money for emergencies job that keeps me just barely off of food stamps.

But why can I not make a lateral move. My friend Nancy got tied up in the auto industry for three years while sending out resume after resume because she want to do something, anything different then what she'd been doing. Finally, they hired her to teach swim classes at the local mega gym. Three years is a long time to look for a job when you already have a job. Anyone in human resources want to field this one?

  • Short Sale Landlord Tenant Problem?

My parents have been renting rooms in their second home since they've been unable to sell the house for the last 5 years. They've finally decided to do a short sale and have accepted one of the offers and sent it to the bank. Since it's the second offer that the bank has received after the first one was retracted by the first potential buyer, their real estate agent has informed them that the 2nd offer is usually processed and finalized in about 30 days.

The problem is that my parents have one tenant left in the house and she's a nightmare hoarder who is refusing to move out even though we've told her repeatedly that the house is sold. The eviction process would take too long and she's current on the rent so what grounds would we have anyway. What happens to her? What rights do the new buyers have because they don't have a lease agreement with her? Does she become a trespasser and get kicked out by the sheriff? I really don't know.

  • What is the chemical reason why people like to be right?

I've noticed that many of my friends and family really like to be right even though their opinions and facts, ideas and beliefs can be proven incorrect when you do a little research. Someone mentioned that there is a chemical reaction that happens in a person that causes them to enjoy being right. What is it?

  • Can an attorney bill you for the first hour?

My parents are looking to evict a tenant, it's their first time. I spoke with an attorney because I didn't know what we needed in order to evict her nor did I know what the attorney could do for us. We were getting ready to hire him ($750 retainer) when I received a $195 bill for the 36 minutes that I was on the phone with him. He never said that I was on the clock or that he was sending me a bill. He did tell me that he charges $325 an hour and that it would cost $750 to hire him to evict the tenant.

  • Vehicle Repossession?

My sister's soon to be ex-husband has her car. He's not making the payments and the title is only in her name. Missouri is a title holding state so it's her car even in a divorce. She cannot find out where he lives, but she knows where he works and the employee parking lot is guarded. Can she have the sheriff's office aid her in retrieving her vehicle?

  • Unrealistic expectations?

Can anyone explain to me why my boss thinks that employees can continuously learn how to type faster over time with increased accuracy. I already type 16,000 keystrokes per hour. My department gets near weekly reminders that we need to concentrate on our speed and I'm one of the slower typist. What is with the unrealistic expectations?

  • I have one of those air conditioning units that sits in the room instead of in the window.?

Who else has one and does it seem to work? Mine blows out cold air okay but the room doesn't seem to cool down very fast and the hose that you put in the window gets real warm. It's like its cooling the room and heating it at the same time. What do I do?
