  • Is my dad emotionally/verbally abusive?

Over the last few years as I have sprouted into a teenager, and now legally an adult, my relationship with my Dad has seemingly deteriorated to the point where I would say I honestly don't want to speak with him anymore. My mom and Dad have been divorced since 2005 and have taken each other to court twice for custody battles. I was young when this all occured.

As my teenage years came, my Dad has increasingly been hostile towards me and my now 15 year old sister. My Dad calls us lazy, good for nothing, spoiled, etc. Lately, I have been smoking marijuana to relax and sleep better at night, but by no means have I let it take over my life. I know it's illegal, however, I have my life together at the moment as I am about to go away to college and I have a steady job that has me earning honest money that I can support myself with as I still lI've with my parents. My dad calls me a stoner, pothead, loser, etc regardless.

My Dad continually blames my mom for my sister and I's "developmental issues" as he calls us lazy all the time and says we will never be successful in life because of her. Meanwhile, my sister is a star softball player at my former high school and I am on my way to study political science at Georgia southern university.

On mother's day of this year he yelled at me for not saying happy mother's day to my step mother, partly because I was working all day because I am a server at a popular restaurant. I had enough and said how I felt. He challenged me to a fight

  • I have a 2.75 GPA in high school, do I have a chance at getting into Georgia State or Georgia Southern?

Hey everyone, im in a little bit of a predicament. I have a 2.75 GPA in a very good high school in GA. I take honors and AP classes with a few CP classes as well. I am in DECA and occasionally help my teachers to get my community service hours up.

I am a junior heading into 2nd semester

Do I have a chance at getting into GA State or GA Southern? I have already ruled out UGA. And if i can not get into those two schools i will take the community college route but i was curious to your thoughts on if i could get in

  • True or False: The battle for the AL East title will intensify between the Yankees and Rays as September nears?

Ever since the Rays got Evan Longoria back, they have been virtually unstoppable. And they are closing the gap the Yankees held for so long and are in position to win the division, but the Yankees won't give it up easily.

Your thoughts on the AL East for the remainder of this month and into September?

  • Has the Yankee-RedSox era come to an end in the AL East?

    Standings as of May 25th

    Baltimore: 28-17

    Tampa Bay: 27-18

    Toronto: 24-21

    New York: 23-21

    Boston: 22-22

New York and Boston pitching has been a major disappointment thus far in 2012. The Blue Jays are somewhere in the middle in these stats. The Rays pitching has been great as always, and the offense will pick up some slack when Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings return. The Orioles' pitching has been a huge surprise from a team ERA above 5 in 2011.

As of right now, the Yankees and Sox occupy the cellar of the division, and we are past the quarter mark. Both teams' needs are apparent: Yanks = starting pitching, Sox = bullpen + starting pitching.

Younger teams in the division like the O's, Rays, and Jays are starting to beat the older competition, plus have pretty decent farm systems.

  • Have the Tampa Bay Rays revolutionized the art of shifting in baseball?

Every so often, Rays utility man Ben Zobrist and his teammates will pull index cards out of their back pockets, studying them closely before they leave the dugout and sometimes even sneaking a peek on the field.

Written on those cards are short scouting reports on opposing hitters, including basic information about where they tend to put the ball in play and how the Rays should line up against them. For many teams, that information might not be all that in-depth or particularly important to check so frequently. But it's critical for Tampa Bay, which led the Major Leagues in defensive shifts last season and has implemented them even more frequently this season.

According to Baseball Info Solutions, the Rays used defensive shifts 216 times last year and saved 85 runs, the most in the Majors. The Brewers implemented the second-most shifts with 170, followed by the Indians (148) and Blue Jays (117), then a significant drop-off as three teams tied with 75.

Tampa Bay has taken its shifting to the next level, moving around its defenders more aggressively and more often.

"We talked about some things in Spring Training where the shift is becoming a little bit more unique to each player. Each shift is unique in its own way," Zobrist said. "It just varies depending on what they see on the spray charts with where these guys generally hit the ball."

Of course, there's more to it than just spray charts -- "the computer stuff," as Alex Rodriguez called it after the Yankees were frustrated by the shifts in their season-opening series at Tampa Bay.

"If you looked at it and just drew lines, you would just see a bunch of lines. You would have no idea what you wanted to do," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "We have ways of breaking that down. ... There's a lot going on. It's really interesting stuff. It's very useful. It's very helpful."
