  • What do I need in the way of solar panels, etc. to power a 1 horsepower DC motor at 12 volts?

I am looking to power a small air compressor with solar panels, but am not savvy when it comes to solar power.

For example, if I use a 12V DC motor, surely I shouldn't need an invertor (I think?).

Also, I don't know what the amperage/voltage rating is on a panel.

I was thinking I might need 12 volts at about 800 Watts, but need someone to point me in the right direction.

  • Foreshore lease, how often must payments be made?

In bidding on government property, specifically beach property, is the lease amount one bids to pay a one time payment for twenty five years, once a year, or once a month?

I have been reading up on this subject, but can't quite seem to find this particular information.

It is for a Filipino friend of mine, don't worry, I do know an alien cannot lease these properties as it is reserved for citizens only.

  • Does this man have talent as a singer or what?

This is a friend of mine who sings for fun and he posts on Youtube when he gets bored.

He is disabled and very self conscious about his weight, but he is doing a good job of getting himself back in shape.

I am proud to call him my friend.

Please give him a listen and type your response here.

  • What American or European food items would go over in a coffee/breakfast bar?

My wife and I are thinking about opening a coffee shop in Liloan, Cebu which features american style breakfasts and would like to know what the foreigners on here would like to see on the menu.

I hear all the time how they miss real wieners, bratwurst, biscuits and sausage gravy.

What else would you like to see us carry?

  • How do I handle a problem with an unlicensed, illegal money lender?

I was recently in the hospital here in Cebu and my wife foolishly borrowed P15,000 from a money lender who lives in Mindanao.

The lady wants P20,000 back and P2,000 interest after only 2 weeks.

I have offered to pay either P7,000 or even P8,000 per month for 3 months if she will just stop texting threats to my sensitive wife, but she wants all of the money at one time.

She has even texted saying she is coming to Cebu to collect, but I had my wife tell her that the Tanod next door to us would be at our house to meet the lady.

The lady still says she is coming.

I feel that since her business is illegal, she should be glad to be paid at all, but my wife insists that I borrow money from another lender to pay the first one off.

I do admit that we owe the lady money and am not trying to get out of paying, but am trying to find a reasonable way to pay.

This lady has my wife scared and I can't talk sense to either of them.

How on Earth do I handle these silly women and this silly situation we have found ourselves in?

  • How can we get a free heart surgeon in the Philippines for a 4 year old?

We have tried Philhealth, all used up, all of the charities here are all used up and the U.S. Navy says their surgical crew won't be here (Cebu) this year.

Is there anyone out there with an idea as to how we can save this poor little boy's life?

He was expected to go under the knife in November, but the surgeon here says the boy would surely die on his operating table and a better surgeon is needed for the 4 holes in the boy's heart.

  • If I build a camping resort, would other foreigners come to it?

I intend to build near the ocean with my fruit tree farm on one side of the road and rent tents to campers on the ocean side, near or on the beach.

It has nearly white sand and is very nice.

I am building a round swimming pool with a water slide on it and will provide U.S. meals and Philippine food as well.

I will also have a convenience store, barber, driver/car, boat tours and several other features set up.

If anyone can think of anything I missed, please let me know, as I want this as nice as possible.

Oh, and it will be in Bohol, very quiet, clean and safe.

  • Why can't we contact family in Ozamis?

The wife has a brother and his family in Ozamis and a sister with her family.

We have been in contact with them several times a week until last week.

Now, we can't contact them by cellphone or computer.

My Father in law and I may have to travel there from Cebu to see if they are okay.

Has a communications tower been damaged again, or has anyone heard anything about any possible situation there that would explain this?

  • Are we foreigners wasting our time trying to help our wive's families here?

Personally, I am tired of giving to ungrateful people and don't do it any more.

You know the type, they ask for money to help, I give it and they talk behind my back that it isn't enough.

Lately, I have become more selective in who I help and how I help them.

I am sending my brother in law to a school to become a seaman and employ him in construction work ( on days there is no school) because he really applies himself.

I send an orphaned niece to a good private school because she needs help from a family member and I am the only one in the family who can do this (she is a bright little 6 year old and does well in school).

I send my wife's younger sister to a private school because she is an excellent student and her father is too lazy to work and support his family.

I also employ one of my wife's brothers in law by letting him work for me as a construction laborer.

We do have several family members who I refuse to help because they refuse to study or work to help themselves in any way other than to cry for money for clothes or to get drunk (food they say, but I have seen how the money was spent).

In short, the ones who will not try or work for themselves are shut out and receieve nothing from us.

We love her family, but did not agree to support them without any strings attached.

I just want to know, what with all the "American" bashing here, are we just wasting our time here, or does anyone appreciate what we do to help our wive's families?

  • Will you vote for the person who offers more money or less money?

My Father in law always accepts the bribes from both sides (neither one pays more than a few hundred Pesos in his area), but votes for the one who paid him the least.

He somehow thinks that makes the lower payer less dishonest than the one who pays him more.

  • What do you think of this Filipina's questions?

    Look at this one;

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am731...

She pretends to be an American man and asks about three such questions each day.

Some of it is hilarious, but beware, she has a dirty mouth and really does hate U.S. citizens.

  • What is the real reason U.S. citizens move to the Philippines?

I did so because of the pressures of such a modern society in the U.S.A. were so overwhelming, there was never enough time to get everything finished.

Look at the murder/suicide rates there, they keep going up and most of it is due to pressure from all sides, especially the economy.

Marrying a Filipina was not foremost in my mind, but I did marry one and am very happy that I did.

We have been married for 3-1/2 years, have a 16 month old daughter, are very happy and can actually sit back and relax most of the time.

I had a type A personality and had developed a small heart condition, but have had very little problem with it here and my temper and personality have changed for the better.

I am trying to adjust to the calmer attitude I have found here and am getting there a little at a time.
