  • Does my instructor not like me?

For a while now I have been thinking this but I'm not sure.

I always do what he says, help out in kids classes, take warm ups when he asks me to, help people who need it etc.

But I was at a testing a couple of weeks ago, one which I didn't have to go to but went anyway. When he was calling people up to assist he seemed to call everyone else but me, I even saw him look at me and deliberately skip over me to people who have less experience and aren't a high enough belt to be able to assist whenever it gets to the higher level testings, anyway I digress.

When there was a lack of people he reluctantly called me up with a 'if i have to ask him' kind of tone and called me up.

Anyway that went past we got past the first couple of belts, but when we got up to the higher levels and the test started moving into the higher sections some of the people who are assistant instructors and should know their stuff had to start looking at me to copy me so that the young kids could copy them.

When the test moved into the different language they had to look at me again because hardly any of them knew what the translation was for the move.

Then at the end he was promoting people to assistants and promoted people who weren't even there as often as I was and people who go sparsely to the classes and hardly ever help out. (For reference im not an assistant)

This is not a question about 'I'm some bitter child who wasn't promoted and is annoyed about', I just want to know the reasons why he hasn't promoted me so I can improve. At the end of the day my viewpoint has always been that badges and belts don't matter it's the type of person you are that counts.

Is this an appropriate question to ask?

Last time people got promoted to assisstant he actually gave off to me about showing a 'bad attitude'. When he out of the blue asked me to spar with several people even though he knew I was sick, I tried to politely ask him could i not do it and he was pretty pissed at me and talked of how it was 'a common occurance' even though I've let him beat me up to demonstrate moves to other members of the class since day one and never complained once.(This was again another occurrence when i did not have to be there but went out of my own good will) Granted i might need to stretch out between forms and such due my severe knee and pain in my other joints but i never once have asked to sit out due to pain. (expect for once when he was demonstrating a move on me and consequently smacked my head off the floor.)

I've been there since day one and in my years there have never missed a class unnecessarily.

So there's my rant, any suggestions of how i might improve and show him that I am comitted.

  • Is a C in English Language ok?

I am concerned i may have gotten a C in English Language, I'll still be able to get back into my school to do A-Levels but would employers look and say "oh he has only got a C in English Language, we shouldn't employ him". My other subjects will probably be about A*-B.

Btw it has always been my worst subject and I have always had terrible teachers for it. (Not just my own opinion but that of the whole class)

  • Are these good A levels?

For A levels I've picked ICT, Business studies, History and Geography

Are these good, i debated over doing a science but was afraid of failing it and ending up with a bad grade, would it be better to pick the subjects i like and do well in them?

  • Help with training routine?

At the minute I can only go to classes 2 days a week coming down from 3 due to other things, until the summer anyway. Overall I feel I am starting to lose my touch and so after I get this month done as I have heaps of coursework, I want to start a more intense training routine and I was just wondering what you guys do, I think I need one as I find I am a one sided sparrer (right) and want to be more unpredictable and be able to attack with both sides. martial art is called soo Bahk do moo duk kwan, the kicking side of it is important but I find that some people only use their feet and forget about their gaurd or when there's an opening they don't punch so maybe some boxing drills would be useful.

I have thai pads, a punchbag and I am thinking of buying a target paddle for accuracy training. Any info would be useful.

  • How to improve sparring?

Just wondering what would you suggest to improve sparring, recently i've started contact sparring and find it a big difference from the light contact that i'm used to, i'm hesitant to throw a punch because im afraid of hurting people (which i shouldn't be lol, and there's some people I don't trust to defend themselves like some people in our class just instinctively bend over for a spinning back kick defence although they don't do contact sparring yet, and there are alot of kids who will probably end up doing it too) and even if i do i hesitate which leads to a loss in power.

I guess im asking how you increase your confidence when sparring and what can i do to practice at home

  • Is it advisable to learn more than one martial art?

Currently I do Soo Bahk Do which I really enjoy and wouldn't really want to quit, but i find that it doesn't contain a lot of hand techniques and has more foot techniques( or maybe im not a high enough rank yet ), i was just wondering maybe after 1st or 2nd Dan would it be advisable to start studying a martial art, i was thinking of some form of kung fu(which i know is a broad term) maybe wing chun. just wondering what your opinions are on this.

  • Flying in the military?

I live in the uk and was considering joining the raf, my ambition is to become a helicopter pilot but as long as I get to fly I don't mind, just a couple of questions:

It says on the website that you'll be selected after elementary flying training does this mean you'll get your ppl(plane) first even if you do get drafted into helicopters?

living in northern Ireland would I have to move to Britain?(I don't mind just wondering)

I also have irish citizenship, would i have to give this up to join?

Do any of you know about what the irish air corps is like, i was considering them but then i noticed that they require a bit of irish but since I live out of the state does this apply to me?

and if i did decide to get my ppl(plane) before joining would this ruin my chances of getting to fly helicopters?

I'm only 15 so there is a while to go yet :)
