If you use your pc at night you need to get F.lux!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT http://stereopsis.com/flux/ F.lux makes your screen a more yellowish / orange color at night and that may sound completely retarded just reading it but if you just try it out it's so amazing and here is a picture for comparison http://dl.herf.org/flux-ab.jpg If you have insomnia GET THIS PROGRAM!!! It is proven by research to help you sleep better http://stereopsis.com/flux/research.html To all Linux users install RedshiftGUI from here PS it looks JUST LIKE F.LUX WHEN YOU USE IT http://www.webupd8.org/2010/07/redshiftgui-protects-your-eyes-when.html?m=1
My monitor is too bright, -- WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIX IT!!?
Most monitors come default which INSANE levels of brightness, the FIRST thing to do is lower the displays brightness. If you don't know how, then look up your monitor on the Internet and figure out what all the buttons do. Your monitor should NOT be brighter than the things around you if you are in a well lit room. If it IS brighter than the light coming through your window on a bright day, then DEFINITELY reduce the brightness until it's the same brightness as things around you.
Did your room is lit by a ceiling fan light, but it's not very bright, this is NO REASON to have a brighter monitor. Your eyes will adjust to almost any level of brightness and ideally you'll want your monitor to match the dimmer lighting of your room.
I'd say its okay to use a monitor in the dark, it's not good, but just make sure the brightness is on the LOWEST SETTING, do NOT alter the contrast if colors are not washed out. If your colors do seem a bit faded, try reducing The contrast to 75.
The next thing is f.lux -- what? What's that?
f.lux is a,aging and sadly, very sadly, only 9 million people use it, and I think it should be mandatory on all computers!
f.lux tones down your monitors COLOR -- not brightness, which is why I suggest you find out how to reduce brightness FIRST, then install this program. www.justgetflux.com I recommend the beta. Please check out the beta, it's got really cool features, it will list them before you download so don't worry.
It makes your screen match your indoor lights at night. I mean if you look at a textbook then look back at your monitor, it won't be this totally different blue glow staring you in the face. It wil be the same level of "white" as the pages in the book --- this also depends on your monitors color settings (theater, cinema, and sRGB are the most accurate modes).
On the f.lux page again it's justgetflux.com at the far top right is a FAQ page, labeled "Support" if you haven't used the program before I think you should read it so that you know how to configure it properly, trust me it's not complicated.
You will need to adjust the sliders in e program so that they match your room, it may take time to figure this out but no more than 5 minutes,
Once you get it all setup, make sure the transition speed it set to slow 1-hour, instead of the default 20 seconds. If you have a bright mouse cursor, you can enable short mouse trails, or if you have Windows 7, enable the full screen magnifier set to 100% no zoom. What I have listed here - except the thing about magnifier (sadly only on Windows 7 and maybe mac, sorry I haven't had a chance to try it on a Mac yet) is listed on the support page so please please read it!
I really love f.lux and it definitely helps to relieve eye strain and get rid of the aweful eerie blue glow at night, and YES IT IS EERIE!
I have seen people texting.at night, and all you can see is this BLUE glow all over thier face, it's just completely un natural. If you have a jailbroken iphone ( LEGAL SINCE 2010 by DMCA look it up ) you can install f.lux on your phone or ipad so that you have a much better looking screen at night there as well.
I hope this helps a lot of people and maybe this will get stickied or something but some people think it's spam and get it reported which I still have failed to understand why, so... I guess they haven't used f.lux yet! Then they'd know!

Well it seems Linux has some serious issues. yes it has a lot of different things going against it that make it less worthy to rival os X and Windows and i would just like to know what those things are so that the Linux community can work together and fix those issues to make Linux better for future users
so please if you have tried Linux is the past and given up on it, please state why you did and what you think can be done to rectify the issue
6 AnswersSoftware9 years agoWhat is an efficient keyboard layout like qwerty?
is qwerty an efficient layout it seems a tad bit odd because there is a semicolon on the home row just wondering if this is the BEST place for a ; < do you use the ; alot when you are typing i don't but other people MUST because its sold on all the keyboard so it must be the best layout available ... right?
also why are there not many vowels on the home row --- i use vowels all the time don't you
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agocan't use the Dvorak keyboard layout in Google Chrome --- I HATE QWERTY?
i am at the moment FORCED by Google Chrome to use QWERTY which is an AWEFUL keyboard layout ***NEVER*** was made to be efficient only to type """ type writer """ with the TOP ROW only to demo it's "ease of use " << there IS no ease of use on QWERTY and it also causes RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome and i just want people to be aware that there is another keyboard layout called Dvorak that is much easier to use
and my computer is slow and may have a virus
