$200/month electric bill for small apartment?
For the last three months my girlfriend's electric bill has been $200, when it's normally like $40. She and her brother rent a small one bedroom apartment. What is it so high for? The electric company just says all she can do is pay it, and ask the landlord if there's a problem with the heat or something. The landlord doesn't seem to think there's any problem and won't do anything. Is she stuck paying $480 more than she should? It's just a small apartment, how could it possibly rack up that much money? Is there anything we can do?

1 AnswerRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWhat's that book about very minor events in the history of the English language?
I was once reading something—can't possibly remember what, possibly wikipedia—when I saw a reference to a book or something about insignificant events in the development of the english language. It didn't seem that serious, and had obviously fictional conversation, yet was professional, if I remember correctly. I recall an example about a person walking into a bar and asking for something, and the bartender didn't understand what they were asking for, illustrating that a word had changed or something like that.
I've tried searching the web to no avail. My memory could be fuzzy about the whole thing. Any clue what I'm thinking of?
1 AnswerLanguages1 decade agoWhere can we go camping?
Me and a friend are planning to go camping soon, but this is our first camping trip. I've researched a bit, and I already know what gear we'll need for this time of year. But one thing somehow confuses me a bit. Where should we go? It seems a state park is probably obvious, but all the options are a little confusing. All we want is to take a tent and some food into the woods for a couple days, and not be too bothered by other people. How do I decide where? And then what do I do? Can someone please detail the steps for me?
2 AnswersCamping1 decade agoWhat external hard drive should I buy?
I've had only bad experiences with them in the past. I'm looking for a simple external hard drive to back up my files from multiple pc's . I don't need more than 300gb, though I see 500gb ones without much difference in price while looking around. I'm reading user reviews, but they all seem mixed. I really just want one that's not likely to fail, obviously won't loose my data, and doesn't go really slow. What brand or model I should go with? What is most reliable?
3 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoWhat is the point of a runtime environment like .NET framework?
What is the point of runtime environments? Sure, they can be faster for developers after they've learned to use them, but everything else about them is bloated, slow, and ridiculous. They take looong times to install, different versions must be installed for support of different applications, and programs that run on them take looong times to load. Any benefit to the developer can be accomplished when their code is compiled into their program, right? Why have the horrible user experience, when the same application can run natively with no hassle if it just wasn't using such a runtime environment? I've had to spend hoooouuurs installing runtime environments when all I needed it for was a simple program that simply had no advantage over being programmed in bare HTML instead.
