Empathetic, interpersonal and openly gay. WARNING: You will never be my friend which doesn't mean I don't care about people. I just impose respect and a certain distance.

  • Some questions about database, please, help me...?

I am intending to be an Executive Assistant in near future but I have some problems with Informatics and Computing for now. I have some information like this: "Technology used in this occupation: (I) Data base user interface and query software, such as Database software, Microsoft Access and RefWorks (II) Enterprise resource planning ERP software, such as Microsoft Great Plains software, MicroStrategy Report Services, PRONTO Xi and SAP software."

    My questions now:

    (1) What does "Data base user interface" mean exactly? Am I right comprehending that all I have to know is basically the same of that user level of MS Access or is that something like a DBA Manager, Administrator and/or Programmer? What is the difference between them (database user VS. DBA manager/administrator/programmer) and what is expected of me to know about it as an user/Executive Assistant?

    (2) What is a "query software" (give me some examples, please) and how is it different of "data base user interface"?

    (3) The point II is the same for "ERP Platforms," such as Ariba, Oracle and so?

    (4) What are the most used database and ERP software by most of big companies in the U.S. and what database and ERP software certifications I can get (I just know the MOS-Master level for MS Access)?

    (5) Is there any kind of renowned certification for typing by most of companies in the U.S.

I want to be the best professional for my prospective Chief Executive Officer.

Please, help me! Thank you so much!

  • What is the difference between outsourcing, entry-level and career change?

I am a licensed lawyer with experience at law firms and I want to work as a personal/administrative assistant position field at companies. Job sites ask me to insert "professional objective". I do not know if I have to write "an entry-level position as PA/AA at companies" "To perform administrative functions at companies". I am not employed (that is why I think I don't have to write about outsourcing, but I am not right about it either). Please, tell me what I have to write.

  • What MS Office files can be imported by MS Access?

I just know that I can import both Excel and Access files. What about Outlook, Word and PowerPoint?

  • Can I notice that I am gay in my resumé/CV?

I am a lawyer focused on transiting into a corporate environment (Executive/Personal/Administrative Assistant position.) Maybe I'm overqualified but the point is: I have discovered this is the professional position I want to own. I am so happy and also so afraid of changing but I go for it. I am looking for an entry-level position. The fact is that I do want to notice that I am gay in my resumé/CV because (1) I want to show that I can't be anyone else but me (I think it's so positive) and (2) I want that this previous information influence badly or not in my admission and recruitment process (I mean, also previously. See, I don't want to hide it at a work; but just say it when questioned about. It's normal life! The same right I don't want to be what people think I have to be - who will never be myself - is the same right anyone can't accept it. And that is Okay. That's human being... PLURALITY! Plus: I can answer with the same respect. For example: If you didn't want to be direct and asked me about a girlfriend, I would answer "I never had a girlfriend. I could be with somebody great who would be introduced as 'a friend' because I want to respect everybody." This is my position in life.) So now you have many informations to answer me. About my resumé/CV, I thought: "Openly gay without career repercussions." I think this "openly" gives the wrong idea that I make of my sexual identity the most important part of life. As I wrote above once, I don't want to hide it; just say it when questioned about. But I have two other reasons to write it. How to reconcile them? Please, HR professionals at Yahoo! Answer, help me!

  • What does executives look for when employing assistants?

I am a 38 y.o. man, 10-plus year lawyer with general office skills and I am focused on career change. I want to work as a bilingual executive assistant (a businessman, businesswoman or a group of executives.) I am openly gay but don't talk about it for a lifetime or hide it when asked about. Can it all influence badly in my recruitment and admission process? What does executives exactly look for when employing assistants? Thank you so much for your HR technical answer.

  • How can a lawyer change his career to a personal executive assistant position?

I am a 10-plus year lawyer with general office skills and I am focused on career change. I want to work as a bilingual executive assistant (a CEO man or woman, or a group of executives.) But I want to make it without people thinking that I want it just because I am gay (in fact, I am openly gay but also discreet. I don't talk about it for a lifetime or hide it when asked about. I am just me, not a "supposed to be" nor anyone else.) Therefore, I wonder the most prudent, acceptable and polite way to do it without stigmas, but HOW? I thank you so much for your HR technical answer.

  • Is a man secretary weird?

I am a 10-plus year lawyer with general office skills and I am focused on career change. I want to work as a bilingual executive secretary at a large company. But I don't want to use the term "secretary" just because I think people would say that I want it just because I am gay (in fact, I am openly gay but also discreet. I don't talk about it for a lifetime or hide it when asked about. I am just me, not a "supposed to be" nor anyone else.) Therefore, I think I have to use some kind of formal job titles for the first impression (i.e., office assistant or administrative assistance). So, is my professional objective in my résumé/CV absolute clear when it's written "(State abbrev.) Lawyer with more than ten years of office experience in law firms interested in joining a company which is willing to train people for an entry-level administrative assistant position"? Is more acceptable, prudent and polite to write "an entry-level executive secretary at a large company which is willing to train people for it"? ( I just wanted to write "to train the right man for it" but people said me it can sound arrogant, so I write "to train people for it" now.) I thank you so much for your HR technical answer.
