  • This is for any Days of Our Lives fans from the late 80s or early 90s.?

This is for any Days of Our Lives fans from the late 80s or early 90s. Does anyone remember a story line involving a really pretty brunette, I think her character's name was April possibly, she was in love with the good looking doctor (Horton maybe?). But she was with the sort of weasley guy who was in love with Charlotte Ross' character, the girl with the scar on her face. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew that actress's name (the brunette) or if she ever appeared in anything else? Thanks!

  • Median Median line problem?

The graphing calculator will calculate the answer that is in the book for this question, but when I work it out by hand, the way it is taught in the book, I don't get the same thing. I have consulted with other people and we can't figure out why there is a discrepancy. Please help us resolve this if you can.

I am trying to find the median-median line for the following data:

    Data points are (2, 12), (3, 11), (3, 14), (4, 15), (5, 16), and (5, 18).

We split the data into three equal groups, and found the median from each group. So, the three medians that we got are: (2.5, 11.5), (3.5, 14.5), (5, 17).

Our next step is to calculate "a" or the slope of the line, by using the two outer median values, so that would be (17 - 11.5) / (5 - 2.5) = 11/5.

Then, to find "b", we add the y-coordinates of the medians, subtract "a" times the sum of the x coordinates, and then divide by 3.

    ((y1 + y2 + y3) -a(x1 + x2 + x3)) / 3.

    So, substituting in the values, I get, ( (11.5 + 14.5 + 17) - (11/5)(2.5 + 3.5 + 5)) / 3

    = (43 - (11/5)(11)) / 3 = 94 /15.

So, working out this problem by hand, I get the equation of the median median line should be:

    y = 11/5x + 94 / 15.

However, when I enter the data into my TI graphing calculator and have *it* calculate the median-median line, it says the answer is y = 5/2 x + 14/3. This is also the correct answer according to the answer key.

Please don't suggest that I re-type it in the calculator. I have checked it, along with most of the people I work with. What are we missing? One thing we thought was that maybe because the set of data was very small, that might have something to do with it, but honestly we are grasping at straws.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I just want to know why the method we use by hand isn't giving the same result as what's on the calculator. Thanks.

  • Is the number 1.999999... considered rational or irrational?

I know that any rational is the ratio of two integers.

I also know that an irrational number is supposed to be an infinite nonrepeating decimal.

So, where does that leave the number 1.999999999...?

If it can be written as the ratio of two integers, please show me which two.

    Thanks.

If it's not rational and it's not irrational, then what would it be classified as?

  • Need to go to UK asap -- reasonably priced airfare????

Does anyone know how to get a decent fare for flying to Edinburgh, Scotland on short notice? I have heard of funeral rates before, but this isn't a funeral -- my Granpa had a heart attack and has a 50-50 chance, and I want to get over there as soon as possible. I checked flights and they are about twice as expensive for leaving this weekend than if I wait and leave in 3 weeks. I would rather go soon, so if anyone knows of anything I can do I would GREATLy appreciate it!

  • Good Math Money Management websites?

I will be teaching Math Money Management to high school juniors and seniors in the fall and would love to hear from other teachers who have taught this, specifically, some GOOD websites where I can download some *free* activities and worksheets or projects. The resource materials that we have at my school aren't all that great and I was hoping someone else out there has come across some good activities or websites. Thanks so much!
