What to say about me? I'm a 34 year old mother of 5. I work from home, running a company my husband and I worked hard to build. My children and I rescue and re-home stray and abandoned animals. Thanks to an extensively experienced life, I'm usually quite good at offering advice. I have little patience for ignorance and stupidity, and far too much sarcasm for everything else. I'm honest, usually to the point of brutality, but at least you know you're getting an honest answer from me. ;) I don't reword things to avoid offending someone, or tiptoeing around someones insecurity .. I simply say it like it is. I tend to get argumentative if the conversation is regarding religion, having little to no respect for organized religion. Other topics I might become heated in involve, but aren't limited to, woman's rights, animal rights and children's rights. And now, ladies and gents, we've used up every character allotted, which was my goal!

  • Sick Ferrets - Advice from ferret owners please?

Before anyone yells "vet", I would love to, but there are no vets anywhere near us that care for "exotic" pets. We've checked.

My daughter has 2 ferrets. About a week ago, she called me up to her room to check on them. Their spines were prominent, stomachs caved in and were obviously sick. The female wouldn't walk (lay back down when you stood her up) and the male was walking, but with impaired balance (falling to the side). We checked with a few sources (ferret breeder, internet, etc) and decided we were dealing with 2 issues: heatstroke and malnourishment. Their food had recently been changed and they rejected it and didn't eat.

We installed air conditioners in my daughters room, found a ton of 'cool down' tips like chicken stock ice cubes and frozen water bottles, etc. We started them on high vitamin ferravite and a 'paste' that was recommended consisting of high protein kitten food mixed with chicken baby food. They've very obviously put on a little weight from this diet, since their spines are no longer prominent.

They are walking, but still with impaired balance. Even the female is now moving around, just not well. As I said, the spines are no longer prominent, but their stomachs are still concaved. It's only been a week on their new diet (and we've switched them back to their regular food, the one they liked, obviously).

My question is, are we dealing with something else that we're missing? Or is this normal for recovering ferrets? I'm pretty concerned about the lack of balance. And I hate for animals to be sick if there's something we could be doing, but are missing.

    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Child Tax went down too much?

Before I explain, let me say that I AM planning to call them Monday, but I'm really curious about this and hoping someone has some idea, so I don't have to wonder all weekend.

I have 5 children. My oldest will be 18 next week. I was expecting my next child tax to be smaller because of this, but I checked my online account today to see how MUCH smaller. I don't want to give exact amounts, but, with only one child 'aging out' (so to speak), I'm really confused as to how my Child Tax is going down approximately 45% !!

Just calculated ... it's 45% almost exactly. I'm incredibly confused. Don't suppose anyone has been through this and has some idea?

  • Favorite character story line in Game of Thrones?

Yep, I'm obsessed with it. TV show and books. At this point, my favorite character is Daenerys, but Aeron is a close second. Who's your favorite character? Are you a fan of just the tv show, just the books or both? Looking forward to the new season in April?

  • Front end of truck vibrates?

At 60, the truck starts to vibrate, but only when the gas pedal is depressed. At around 90, it stops again. Can anyone simply list the various causes of this? I know universal joints are one, but I'm trying to find out all the possible reasons to cancel them off one at a time so it doesn't cost me a fortune in guesswork.

    Thanks.

  • Information about Estevan, Saskatchewan?

My family is looking at relocating to Saskatchewan for work reasons, and so far, the most likely candidate for living is Estevan. I know the size, and atmosphere, but I need more information on the town itself. Anyone living there, or who passes through, that can tell me a little more about the town? What type of stores does it have, what is there in terms of recreation (I have kids, ages 8-15), etc. As much information from as many sources as I can find would be greatly appreciated. :)

No need to tell me about the weather conditions. I grew up in the prairies (Neepawa, Manitoba) so I'm fully prepared for cold winters, lol.

    Thanks!

  • Removing virus on external hard drive before it spreads to internal?

I have a virus on my external hard drive. I *had* the virus on both my internal and external, but have since formatted. This is the win32/virut infection, and is apparently really difficult to remove. It spreads very quickly, and the first orders of operation for it are to infect the anti-virus program (took out both Avira and AVG) and infect and disable the firewall.

My problem now that I finally have my internal hard drive clean is how to be able to clean my external hard drive. For now I have it unplugged and unconnected, but it's my main storage device. How would I go about plugging it into the computer to remove the virus on it without the virus spreading to the rest of the computer?

Please don't say to just have an anti-virus program running, it doesn't help. The first thing the virus does is take out the anti-virus program. That line of thinking has already caused me to have to format twice.

  • Lyrics Help! (Move it like this?)?

I heard a clip of a song tonight on So You Think You Can Dance and I *need* to find it! All I know from the lyrics is something about "move it like this and you move it like that" but it is NOT the Baha Men song with lyrics that sound like that. It's a male singer, softer kind of voice, song probably soft rock or alt.

I did some googling, but can't come up with the right lyrics to draw a successful search I guess.

    Any ideas?

  • Replacing leaf springs on a minivan .. advice needed.?

Keep in mind, I know very little about vehicles short of how to drive one. ;)

My hubby informed me tonight that we "have to" immediately replace the leaf springs on one side of the van. We have a '95 Plymouth Voyageur, btw. So, the van has been subtly 'leaning' for quite some time, probably 6 months or more. Today, he got under the van, and ran inside to tell me we have to park the van until we changed one of the leaf springs.

Now, my hubby knows quite a bit about a lot of different things, but occasionally, he tends to overreact about things he may NOT be so knowledgeable about. So, I'm double checking to be sure, since I don't have a clue one way or the other.

The van has been running fine for the past 6 months, even though this problem has apparently been there the whole time. I'm not convinced it's something we have to run out and do RIGHT THIS SECOND, instead of waiting until payday when we have a little extra, when it hasn't presented a problem up until now.

Also, I've been checking a few forums, and from what I can understand (and I could absolutely be wrong) both springs should be changed at the same time? Is this right?

He says that we either have to change the spring (singular) or he can do a quick fix with c-clamps, but that the van isn't to be moved until he does one or the other. After 6 months of good behavior (the van, not him lol) I don't get the urgency all of a sudden when this problem has been there the whole time.

Can someone with more experience with cars and fixing them help me out on this? If those experienced with cars tell me that my hubby has the right idea, I'll not only apologize to him for doubting his mechanical genius, I'll pass him the tools. ;)

  • My daughter wants to get a second pet rabbit .. advice needed.?

My 12 year old has a dwarf bunny. He's 4 years old, but she's only had him for about a year. Tonight she mentioned she'd like to get a second one, but my concern is regarding whether or not it's safe to add another rabbit to the same cage. I know with some animals it is absolutely NOT safe, as one will kill the other ... territorial issues. But admittedly, I don't know enough about rabbits to know one way or the other.

So I told her I would check into it before we discussed it any further. I'm hoping someone here has a little more experience with rabbits. My daughter will drop the subject indefinitely if there's any chance it will put her pet at risk ... or any other animal, for that matter.

  • Ontario Canada - laws & rights when fighting children's aid.?

I need help finding information on fighting childrens aid agencies in Ontario, Canada, and information on the rights of children in foster care. I need this information as fast as possible. Can you point me to a link, or a resource, where I can find the information I'm looking for? Non-biased official sites preferably, those that can be used in an official capacity, not just a person's opinion.

Grateful for any direction, here. Thanks.

  • Can anyone identify this flower?

I'm looking for help identifying this flower. Any help is appreciated. Before you check the picture, keep in mind it is NOT plastic, contrary to the answers I received last time around. It's growing in my backlane and is just about a foot across ... it's a huge flower. It's also not a poppy, according to every source I've checked. Apparently the leaves are all wrong.

    Beyond that, I haven't a clue.

  • Separation of church and state ... factual only please.?

I'm in a running debate with someone regarding religions place in society, and specifically in terms of trying to impact laws. Being Canadian, I'm not very familiar with the US when it comes to how the seperation of church and state applies. The person I'm debating claims it was in a letter from from one founding father to another ... I'm almost positive there was more to it than that?

Can someone knowledgable in this give me some background information please, or a quick rundown at least? I like to know what I'm talking about before I continue the conversation.

    Thank you :)

  • Keyboard issues .. experienced help please.?

I have a logitech keyboard with the shortcut keys on top (volume, calculator, home, media, messenger, etc). It's fairly new .. less than 2 monthes old. Before that I had the same kind, it lasted well over a year if not longer before I threw it out for cosmetic purposes.

Anyhow... I installed it properly with the setpoint disk so I would be able to use the shortcut keys on top. It was working fine for the first while, now I'm having little annoying problems. Such as ... I can't use the right shift key with the @ symbol, but I can use the left one. The right shift key works for everything else, just not with THAT key. The Z works only with the right shift key and not with the left, the reverse of the @ symbol issue. Annoying and irritating problems, but small enough.

Now I know this has nothing to do with the driver, or shouldn't .. since the keyboard default buttons work before you even put the setpoint disc in. What could be going on here? Any ideas on how to fix?

    Thanks ;)

  • Anyone know what movie this is?

I saw a movie a few years ago, and I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. It's about a little boy who is physically disabled (in the movie he has blonde hair, glasses and is either in a wheelchair or has leg braces). The entire movie centers around him and his friend.

Towards the end of the movie, the disabled boy and his friend are helping on a field trip for younger kids, and there's an accident .. the school bus is in the water, and the disabled boy helps some of the kids to safety. He contracts (I think) pneumonia from the ordeal though, and I believe he dies at the end of the movie.

    Any idea what this is?

  • Printer problems .... invisible ink?!?

Okay, I had my ink cartridges refilled about 2 weeks ago. After putting them back into the printer, I was able to print with no issues. Then I tried to print a page last night. The printer works, you'd swear it was printing ... but the sheet comes out with nothing on it .. hence the invisible ink reference in the title.

I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to the printer, I have no idea what's going on or why it's not working the way it should be. The cartridges are in properly, the printer is fairly new, no more than 6 monthes old ... any ideas of what could be going on?

  • What kind of snake for a 12 year old boy?

My son will be 12 just after xmas, and his father and I are looking at getting him a snake. I'm looking for information from someone relatively experienced with them. What type of snake would be a good snake for a beginner? He knows very little about them, other than the fact that he likes them. He has an aquarium setup already, and the space for it ... just lack of information, lol. I've been told a corn snake might be the best way to go, but seldom given information as to WHY. Any information you have is greatly appreciated. :)

  • Long term knee problems ... any experience with these problems?

Last winter I started having issues with my right knee, growing steadily worse over time. Some days it was completely debilitating, leaving me stranded on the couch. I did see a DR, who did an X-ray, that showed nothing. He mentioned scheduling an MRI and an ultrasound, then I never heard from him again, and my life got busier so I left it alone.

Over the summer, I had almost no issues, only a mild ache once in a while.

Cold weathers back, so is the pain. I visited another DR, who did nothing more than refer me to physio, with no diagsnosis. I'm on an 8 week waiting list for physio. I do NOT trust this DR's reaction any more than the idiot I dealt with last year. I want to visit another, but have some info with me if possible.

The pain is intense, usually throbbing around the kneecap. I cannot bend my knee without intense pain, and if I do, when I move to straighten it there is an audible, loud crack that others can hear.

Any experience with issues like this appreciated. :)
