Does my 22-year-old disabled child qualify for the 2018 CHILD tax credit?
I have a 22-year old child who is disabled; (he has daily seizures and substantial cognitive impairment). Via his neurologists, he has qualified for SSI. It is unlikely he will ever live on his own.
My question is... Can I claim him for the CHILD tax credit on my 2018 taxes, or does he only qualify for "other dependent". Different sites are giving different info, and IRSdotgov is a bit nebulous.
Thx!

3 AnswersUnited States2 years agoMy daughter was in a serious car accident about 8 days ago... Do I call an attorney?
4 teens, coming from a church event. No drinking or texting while driving. My kid was seated on rear driver s side. They missed a stop sign, rolled onto a highway and were t-boned. ALL ARE GOING TO BE FINE. My kid was the worst injured (jaws of life, helicopter ride to the trauma center) with a concussion, broken jaw, injured hip and some teeth knocked out and loose... THE DUST HAS BARELY SETTLED and 2 of the other parents are talking about contacting an attorney.
I know this sounds Polyanna-ish of me, but at this point, I m just relieved that my kid is going to live, WALK FINE and is going to be totally fine. She has literally walked away from a nearly-deadly experience. It s miraculous. Her best friend was the driver. Her mom is no longer alive, and her dad is well-to-do.
My insurance coverage is good, as is his. What other purpose is there for contacting an attorney, but to sue for "mental anguish" and then put a wedge into a lifelong friendship? Should I be looking into hiring an attorney?
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics6 years agoDoes anyone know how to buy/acquire a service dog?
I live in Florida. Our dog died a few months ago.
My son has seizures (age 16), and would most definitely qualify for a medical service dog.
Most of the sites I have seen offer classes to train your dog. However, I do not have the wide-open, large chunk-of-time necessary to consistently train a puppy well.
Again, my son would qualify, and I am happy to pay money for a well-trained service dog. Anyone know of a place in FL or GA to get one?
5 AnswersDogs8 years agoIf you were about to inherit $250,000 what would?
you do with it? I'm (unexpectedly) about to inherit around $250 K before the year ends.
I'm in my early 40's.
My 401K is on target for a comfortable retirement. (not lavish, but comfortable)
'Have 3 kids with in-state college tuition already paid for. Have other savings plans to pay for their room and board and other fees. One of my kids is a stellar student with scholarship money headed her way.
I plan to pay off the remainder of my mortgage and car loans (about $70,000).
WITH THE EXTRA, what would YOU do? I will be talking with my financial advisor when I get a final sum.
Invest in your IRA's, 401K's and work with your financial advisor?
OR,
(my husband and I enjoy fixing up houses)
Buying smaller properties (maybe 2), fixing up and renting out?
What would YOU do?

5 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoIf you were about to inherit a sizeable chunk of change and your spouse had a grown child?
from a previous marriage, how would you handle this?
The story (I will use first person, though this is not for me):
We are in our 50's.
We do not have children, but my hubby has a 30-year-old son from a previous marriage, who has been in jail, and now has an illegitimate daughter. He drifts from job to job, and is sometimes unemployed.
I am set to inherit 200K from a recently deceased relative.
About 70K will be used to pay off debts.
How would you handle the extra? I would love to take a trip to Europe with my husband, then probably invest the rest. My husband's parents are elderly and do not have a lot. My husband's son does not have a college education or much of a life. I do not want to be cold-hearted and not help out anyone in need, but I also know that my Uncle (my benefactor) would not want me to use my inheritance to bail out relatives. My 401K at work is good; we are on track for a comfortable retirement. Not lavish, but comfortable.

1 AnswerPolitics8 years agoWould you switch pediatricians if...?
Your pediatrician were in a differing political party, had poster-sized photos of themselves in the waiting room with certain politicians who are directly (negatively) impacting your own business?
This doc didn't used to be outwardly political. The care we get is fine, but pediatricians are a dime-a-dozen in my town. Paying for this doc's services somehow just feels like a thumb in my eye every time I go there now... :(

6 AnswersCurrent Events8 years agoIf I have 4 years left on my mortgage and owe $60,000 does it make any sense to refi?
Our family has had a decrease in income. 'Have lots of assets, but little disposable income. In 4 years my house will be paid off, but the tight money situation is making my hubby and me nearly NUTS. My house is worth about $275K.
Anyone have any recommendations? Our credit is good. No credit card debt, no bankrupcies... JUST BROKE NOW!!!
1 AnswerPersonal Finance8 years agoDemocrats, does it bother you that Obama lied about Benghazi being a result of a video?
ALL SNARKINESS ASIDE, I am being totally serious, and really want to hear what your thoughts are... Please don't throw BUSH sh1t back... We're talking Benghazi. 4 Americans died, and didn't send help, and blamed it on a video... It doesn't bother you at all that he doesn't answer questions about this, and the MSM will not ask questions? Cindy Sheehan lost her son in Iraq, camped out @ W's ranch in Crawford, TX, and was given as much media coverage as the president (a nominee for Time magazine's "Person of the Year")... Fast forward to Benghazi; 4 Americans dead and no questions? No coverage?
Is there no danger for you with an unquestioning mainstream media?

16 AnswersPolitics9 years agoDid Obama care about the 100% at the consulate in Benghazi?
I guess it was just 4 people who died, so no biggie, right?
As the guy who claims that the "buck stops with him", why didn't he just shut down the Benghazi consulate if it was so unsafe and underfunded for security? It would have been a non-issue!
Why did he LIE about the cause of the attacks for nearly 2 weeks, scapegoating a YouTube video?
