I'm looking for a good bike for my trip. I'm trying to pay about $1,000 or less. If anyone knows a good bike, or bikes, that are capable of holding paniers, have wider than 10 speed tires (but thinner than mountain bike), has the right gear ratios for a 4,000 mile cross country ride please help me out. I've been riding for about 12 years, never really got into the bikes themselves, only enjoying the ride. The local bike shops are only semi helpful because I'm sure they really only want to sell their product.Thank you all for your time.

I am cycling across the U.S. next year and would like to get sponsored to ease some of the costs. I mapped out my ride at 3,988 miles and it will take me 2+ months. Please people, explain to me how so many people get such a stacked team. I've been playing fantasy football for a while now and I don't see how the likes of Stephen Jackson and Joseph Addai or L.T. and Gore or I've even seen an L.T. and Jackson starting lineup on here.
