Is my friend in legal trouble over a name change not acknowledged?
My friend's dad died when he was young. He was named after his father, Bob Smith the 3rd (changed for this question) but when his mom remarried, his step dad officially changed his name to Bobby Jones with Bob taking his step dad's last name. Years later when he retook the name Bob Smith III he got a job where the name change was relevant. On his application he failed to note his former name in the portion asking to list all former names and put "none" in lieu of Bobby Jones. Could my friend get into trouble over this? Are there some jobs (I don't think I should say what kind of job he has) where this could get him into legal trouble? I'd like to give my friend some sound advice.
