  • What to do with one day in Boston?

I'm traveling to Boston for the first time in August, but I'm only going to be there for a day and I'm looking for advice on some must see sights, activities, attractions, and things to eat for a day. I only have a week off from both grad school AND work at the same time, and when I saw I could get round trip Megabus tickets from NYC to Boston for $6.50 (I'm from NJ) I decided to take advantage of the cheap ticket and just go to a place that I've never been. With other things to do and people to see during my week home/trip up to NJ from FL, I couldn't spare more than a day, but I didn't want to pass up the cheap offer to see a brand new city.

Having never been to Boston, I was looking for advice on how to make the most of the day there. Is there an ideal way of getting around and being able to see as much as possible? What are some of the "can't miss" things that everyone should absolutely see, even if you are there for only a day? Any good food places (I'll most likely be alone and I'm not REALLY into any of the sit down and be waited on all by yourself situations...so unless it's REALLY AMAZING, I'm thinking more of an order at the counter and bring it to your table/someone brings it to you kind of place, or a grab and go place).

I'd appreciate any advice and suggestions. Like I said, I know it's a short time so I'm not looking for any "you can't see much in 12 hours!" comments. I know going into it that I won't be able to see much. I'm also pretty well traveled and have backpacked through Europe with pretty short stops in some cities I went to, so I definitely know how to make the most of a short time in a new city, but any advice on what to try and see or what to prioritize with a one day trip would be perfect :) Thanks!

  • 16 days in South America...Peru and ?

Looking to travel to South America at the beginning of June 2014, after finishing graduate school and before starting a full time job. It looks like I'll have about 16 days to work with, and even though it's pretty much a year away I've started looking into possible itineraries.

I KNOW that I want to do Peru and Machu Picchu, and originally I intended on just spending the entire time in Peru. But I'm starting to consider the possibility of maybe taking 5-7 of those days and spending them in another country. I've done the Europe backpacking trip so I'm pretty used to constant travel all over the place, although I know getting around South America is considerably more difficult than getting around Europe. Still, I want to look into the idea of maybe experiencing another nearby country in addition to Peru

So that brings me to my question...assuming I flew into Lima and see at a minimum Machu Picchu/Cuzco for several days, does anyone have experience or advice in continuing on to another country? Or perhaps starting in another country and finishing a trip in Cuzco/Lima? I imagine I'd have to focus on either Northern Peru + another country up there like Ecuador or Colombia, or Southern Peru + another country like Bolivia. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions :)

  • breaks making a sound after i had a lot of people in my car?

i drive a 2005 nissan sentra (i bought it used this past august) and have only ever had 1-2 passengers in the car. i picked up 4 friends at the airport and had no trouble driving to the airport but once everyone got in and we were driving away, every time i pressed the brakes there was a strange squeaking/squealing/nails on a chalkboard sound. it goes away after a while (so only the first few times i press the breaks each time i drive) but i'm wondering what this might be, and if the heavy load in my car had anything to do with it. if anyone has any idea what it may be, i'd love to know. i'm bringing it in to get looked at tomorrow but i'm trying to decide if i should drive to work (an hour there/an hour back) tomorrow or if i should try and get a ride and not use the car.

    thanks everyone!

  • Peru and Argentina trip itinerary help?

I'm looking to plan a 2 week trip to Peru and Argentina for next May or June (2014). I KNOW that 2 weeks obviously isn't enough time to see a whole lot of each but I've always wanted to go to Buenos Aires and to Machu Picchu, and I'll be just out of grad school and want to go on a "last hoorah" trip before starting a big commitment full time job and would love to at least see those two places.

I was wondering if in anyone's experience, they have a good route to go to both Peru and Argentina. I'd be traveling from the New York City area and want to fit in Machu Picchu, Buenos Aires, and if possible Iguazu Falls.

Budget friendly is ideal, but like I said this may be the last time in my life that i'm able to travel for such an extended period of time so if I can see all of those places within a REASONABLE budget, it would be worth it.

If anyone has any itinerary suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm open to anything. Like I said I know that 2 weeks isn't a lot of time to get into the culture and sites of each of those countries in their entirety, but if there's any sort of whirlwind itinerary that anyone can suggest, I would love the opportunity to see all of these places.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and tips, I REALLY appreciate it!

  • is the verizon wireless mobile hotspot unlimited?

I'm moving to an apartment and thought that maybe instead of an internet plan (since I'm not getting cable) that I would just upgrade my phone data plan to include a mobile hotspot on my iPhone, and get the internet on my laptop via the mobile hotspot on my phone. What I'm still unsure of is this: is this unlimited internet usage, or is it like a data plan with a limited amount of internet usage? Or is it basically just like any internet plan where you pay one price for unlimited internet. Any help would be appreciated!

  • San Juan PR alone at night?

I'm going to Puerto Rico next week, and since my flight home leaves at 8:30 AM and I have to be at the airport early as it is, I have decided to not book a hotel for my last night and sleep at the airport. I don't want to get there too early though, so I was wondering if there were things to do into the night (I'll have a small suitcase with me) and if I should have any trouble sleeping in the airport here. I've been on the sleeping in airports website to check reviews but it has been a while since a review has been posted so I want to check here for activities to do and whether or not it would be a decent place to sleep. Thanks!

  • "Sleeping" in San Juan airport?

I will be in Puerto Rico in June, and my flight home departs at 8:30 AM. I don't really want to have to pay for a hotel for the night before if I will have to wake up very early to get to the airport to check in for my flight, etc. anyway. It just seems like a waste to pay full price for the room for just a few hours that night, and I am on a budget.

I was wondering if it was an adequate or acceptable place to spend the night? I have spent the night at airports before while traveling through Europe on a budget and did not run into trouble, and am wondering if the same goes for the Luiz Muñoz Marin airport in San Juan. I checked out some reviews on sleepinginairports.com but it has been a few years since a new review has been posted and I'm wondering if anyone has recent experience.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Getting to El Yunque (transportation only, no guide)?

I'm going to be in Puerto Rico in June and really want to go to El Yunque. I do not have a license so I cannot rent a car, and I don't want to be confined to a tour...I want to get there and explore myself. Is there any way that I can get to El Yunque and explore on my own, without a tour guide and a time constraint? A bus/shuttle/anything? Thanks for the help!

  • car insurance question?

I'm 22 and about to be out of college (in a big city) and onto graduate school (also in a big city). I've never had a need for a car, and don't plan on getting one for at least the next two years that I'm in graduate school. My question is this: my mom and I still have to pay car insurance for me on each of the cars at our house, even though I don't drive them. Is there ANY way that she wouldn't have to pay for me? I'm just curious, it would save everyone a lot of money. Thanks!

  • Safety in Morocco/Marrakech?

I'm looking into doing a combined Spain/Morocco trip this summer. I spent last summer backpacking solo through Europe and would absolutely love to go back to Spain, but I'm thinking that maybe I'll split my time and spend a few days in Morocco since it's so close and easily accessible (probably in Marrakech, but I'm open to suggestions!).

I'm a little concerned about the safety issues in Morocco. I've heard from a few people that there is terrorist activity/that it can be dangerous/that I need to be really careful there. Even though I'll probably be alone, I'm not particularly worried…I just know that other people will be worried for me. So is there anything that I really have to worry about? Anyone with advice, it would be really appreciated! Thanks!

  • ireland itinerary help?

I'm considering a trip to Ireland from March 2-11. possibly until march 12 or 13, but likely just the 2nd to 11th. I'd be flying in and out of Dublin. I want to spend at least 2 days with family out in Co. Mayo, but aside from that I'm not really sure what kind of itinerary to set up. If anyone who has travelled to Ireland can help me plan a good itinerary, i'd really appreciate the help! Here's what I need:

    Fri 3/2: Depart NYC

    Sat 3/3: Arrive in Dublin

    Sun 3/4: Dublin

    Mon 3/5: ?

    Tues 3/6: ?

    Wednesday 3/7: ?

    Thursday 3/8: ?

    Friday 3/9: ?

    Saturday 3/10: ?

    Sunday 3/11: ?

I'd ideally like to be back in Dublin the night before the flight back, since it would probably be in the morning. And like I said, depending on my class/work schedule I may be able to extend it a day or two. But if anyone can help me out...it would be great :) THANK YOU!!

  • special education and bilingual services?

i'm looking for information on special education and bilingual services. some things i'm interested in getting information about are: legislation mandating services for bilinguals/english language learners with special needs (or if legislation doesn't exist, and why it doesn't exist), programs in place for bilinguals/english language learners with special needs, and any other information that anyone has to offer. scholarly articles or websites are a plus, be it a link or the title of an article that i can look up.

this is for a report and is something i'm very much interested in. thanks to anyone who can lead me in the right direction with some facts/research!

  • Madrid to Toronto, and Toronto to Newark short connection time?

I'm flying from Madrid to Toronto and then changing planes to go from Toronto to Newark. I only have 80 minutes from the time I'm scheduled to land in Toronto until the time that the next plane is scheduled to leave. Will this be enough time to make the connection?? I'm nervous about making the connection and I know I'll be rebooked if I do, but it's just better to avoid the inconvenience and I want to know ahead of time what my chances are. Thanks :)

  • bringing duty free alcohol back while changing flights?

I'm scheduled to fly from Madrid to Newark, but I have to make a connection in Toronto (Madrid-Toronto, then Toronto-Newark). I wanted to buy something from the duty free and bring it back home with me. However, I'm not sure if I'll have issues with this when I'm in Toronto, since it's not going to be in a checked bag. Will I run into any issues, and is there a way around this issue? Or should I just not bother? Thanks!

  • connecting flight in brussels...nervous!?

I'm flying from Newark Airport (NJ) to Madrid, but I have to make a connection in Brussels. I'm scheduled to land there at 7:45 and the connecting flight leaves at 8:55. I'm REALLY nervous that I'm going to miss the flight...am I going to have to go through customs in Brussels, and then go through security all over again? I've never had to make a connecting flight before so I'm not sure how it will work, especially internationally. I just want to make it to Madrid! What will happen if I miss the flight?!
