1982 Mercruiser 470 Starting Issues:

Bought a boat that had been sitting for several years. Replaced fuel tank, gas lines, fuel pump, carburetor, starter, relay, and spark plugs.

Here's the problem, it will turn over but not start. Occasionally it will cough but that's it. I got it to run for about 5 seconds and it sounded good, but then it died and wouldn't start again. Fuel is coming out of the carb when you move the throttle and I have spark. What else could I be doing wrong?

Oil looks brand new, not milky or anything, and I got it changed at the Ford dealership. I brought 5 quarts of my own oil and a k&n filter. The dipstick says it's 4 times past the correct fill level??? I only checked today and it was changed like 2 months ago. I just got this so idk if the dipstick is even correct? Also I'm losing coolant, so is this a blown head gasket?

it looks like 12 dots in a circle with a dial in the middle. the dial points to 5 o'clock

Chevrolet 350, Edelbrock 1406.

Engine starts right up and runs great, except it is 20* advanced. I have correctly found TDC and the engine will not start at 0* or anything else before 0* (turning distributor cw). It backfires around 10* advanced (turning distributor CCW) and it runs great at around 20* advanced. Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, and the 1 is on TDC with the rotor button pointing to the #1 cylinder. Okay so here's the issue. The car runs great, no backfiring or anything, but it seems like it runs hot because it is so advanced. Also the Carb idle adjustments do not do anything, you can screw them in all the way or you can take them out, they don't effect the engine at all. It seems like there is a vacuum leak but there is none. So i'm thinking either a secondary adjustment issue, fuel pressure issue, or the timing issue. Someone please help I have no clue what to do and no one here knows either!!! Could it be an aftermarket camshaft?? or a different firing order. Everyone says to put it to 10* or 6* before top dead center (cw on distributor) but it WILL NOT RUN UNLESS ADVANCED 20* (CCW).

I have a 1987 P30 Step Van that used to be diesel and someone converted it to gas. It now has a 5.7 Chevrolet 350 in it. For some reason it will only run when the distributor is advanced 20 degrees. It will not start on 0 degrees and it will not start if it's retarded. The distributor cap is pointing to the number 1 cylinder while at TDC and it is wired in the correct order. Also I couldn't reach to put my finger over the #1 cylinder to find the compression stroke, so I stuffed a tissue in there, but it blows out twice per 1 revolution of the distributor rotor. I assumed that the compression stroke was when the rotor was pointing to the #1 cylinder. Then i used a chop stick to find when the piston was at its highest. The hei distributor looks just the way it does in everyone elses car at 0 degrees TDC but then they turn them all to 10 or so degrees retarded(turned CW), while I'm 20 plus degrees advanced (dizzy turned CCW)...also this probably has nothing to do but the gas tank builds up so much pressure that when you turn the cap it almost shoots out of your hand, then air gushes out for like 15 seconds, so idk if i should drill a hole in the cap or what... Please help I can barely drive the van like this.

Sometimes the car will not start and makes a click sound like it is the starting motor or solenoid...but one time the dashboard lights were flashing with a constant click click click sound so i pressed the black button and the engine started right up. Idk what to do? Do i replace the starter or is it the button and toggle switch. No one knows what it is. Please help!!!

There also might be a siren under the hood. And by the gas pedals there is a black box with a telephone cord in it.

Hurry I think someone cut my gas lines! I just pulled up on the driveway and got out of the car. Then i come back 10 min later and it smells like gas. I start up the car and gas pours all over the driveway! What happened!!!!? 2005 Ford Freestyle please hurry!

We had lumber in the back of the freestyle so we had to tie the trunk down because the lumber stuck out. The guy basically latched the trunk lock shut while the truck was open and then ran a rope through the latch. Well now the problem is, the trunk will not unlock and you can not close the trunk because it is already locked. Any ideas. Thanks in advance!

Shifts into 1, 2, and 4th fine, but when you shift into third the engine just revs...

What's wrong? It was just working.

The windshield wipers don't work on high speed. It only works on slow speed. One time when I was driving for a while and it was raining it mysteriously started working on high, then the next day it went back to the way it was before. What wrong?

At a full tank of gas the needle is just past 1/4 tank. It will stay there until I get a 1/4 tank of gas, then it will start moving again. Any ideas?
