  • My Parakeet laid eggs... what do I do now?

She is kept with a male parakeet. I thought they were both boys until today. What are the chances that the eggs are fertile? Do I have to do anything or should I just let her take care of them? I've owned the male for 6 years and the female for just a couple months.

    Any suggestions would be great.

  • My dog has a severe ear infection - already went to the vet?

My German Shepherd has a pretty severe ear infection. We went to the vet about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and got an antibiotic cream to put in his ear, pills to give him and an ear cleanser. The pills were 5 days and the cream was 7 days so I've just been watching him and cleaning his ears until they were better. (The vet said I probably wouldn't need the full bottle of cleanser, so when his ear infection seemed to have gone away completely, I stopped using it.)

Tonight I noticed him shaking his head and walking with his head crooked, so the infection is coming back. I used the same ear cleanser (good until February, says so on the bottle) to clean out his ears. I hardly got a drop in his ear and he completely flipped out - a full 10 minutes of whining, growling and some noises I've NEVER heard a dog make before, plus he was scratching and rubbing his head everywhere and even started severely panting, slightly foaming at the mouth, and seemed to have difficulty breathing for about a minute. Right now he's back to normal, except for the occasional head shake. I can't see much in his ears - the one I tried to clean is extremely red but nothing else out of the ordinary. I'm a Vet Tech student so I have a handle on the situation and know what to be looking for...

I'm just wondering what you think caused this... the ear cleaner shouldn't hurt him... he was totally fine with me cleaning his ears last week. Plus, this infection came back REALLY quickly and it seems to be worse?

( I called the only Vet clinic that is open right now and talked to the Vet. Only reason I haven't brought my dog in to the clinic is because it's 2 hours away. I'm hoping he'll be okay tonight and I can bring him to his normal vet, just down the road, in the morning. )

  • My iPhone isn't working... any ideas?

Last time I used it (40 minutes ago) to text my friend, it was working normally and the battery bar was still green (not red/critical battery life). Took a shower, came back and my phone appears to have died. Not responding at all to pressing either buttons, didn't do anything with 20 minutes plugged in and it has NOT had any damage to it at all.

It's the iPhone 4. Any ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix it?

I do NOT have insurance on this phone through Verizon so if it's broken, I'm screwed - unless you think the Apple store will do anything?

  • Opinions on the Shed Monster?

    https://secure.shedmonster.com/tv.aspx

Saw it on TV the other night, and I actually want to try it on my German Shepherd mix (1/4 Golden Retriever, so this boy sheds!)

Has anyone tried it? It's been kind of hard to find reviews on this because it's so new, but all that I've read has been good.

  • Low-maintenance pet suggestions?

I have a lot of experience with animals, and am a Vet Tech student. I'm considering getting a low-maintenance pet to have at my dad's house because it feels lonely when I'm there without my animals!! (I have a German Shepherd and two birds at my moms - but my dad lives in a townhouse that doesn't allow dogs over 35lbs. so I can't bring my dog with. And the birds are too hard to transport.)

I've been considering an aquarium, but would love other options to consider. Personal experiences are great! Thanks.

  • Information on saltwater aquariums?

Can you share any information (links, books, articles, etc.) on saltwater aquariums? I don't know anything about them and am interested in having one someday. I'm going out of town this weekend and thought I'd print out some info to read in the car.

I'm using Google but I'm not sure if what I'm reading is good or bad advice.

Also, specifically, information on what fish to have together would be great! (Easy to care for fish please! At least until I know what I'm doing.) ;)

    Thanks!

  • What should a first-time flyer expect at the airport?

I'm 19, and flying to Florida next friday (from Minnesota). Last time I was on a plane, I was 4.

    I am traveling by myself.

I have no idea what to expect in the airport - where I go first, where everything is located, and/or what I need to do.

I know I can probably get some help along the way, but I want to have an idea of what to do and/or where to go before I get there.

  • First-time flier - nonstop or 1 stop flight?

I'm planning on going to Florida at the end of April to help my grandparents move back to Minnesota. I'm flying one way, and driving back with them. I will be flying ALONE, and the last time I was on a plane I was 4 years old. (I'm 18 now.)

My question is.. should I splurge on the $365 one-way, nonstop flight from Minneapolis to Tampa, or should I get a $165 one-way, 1 stop flight from Minneapolis-Atlanta-Tampa? It's so tempting to get the 1 stop flight, but as I've never flown before or negotiated an airport, I don't know what to expect and am a little nervous about the connection.

It's a one hour connection.. is that enough time for someone who doesn't know what they're doing? :)

Also, any advice regarding the connection in Atlanta would be great - I'd like to know even if I do fly nonstop.

  • Problem with Nikon D5000 auto-focus?

I went to use my Nikon D5000 today, and it would not auto-focus. For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out. I went through all of the camera settings to make sure there was nothing there that would cause this, and made sure the lens itself was set to auto.. Everything is as it should be but the camera still won't auto-focus. I tried all of my lenses and have the same problem with all of them.

It will take pictures just fine, either blurry or with the manual focusing.

Any suggestions? Any ideas as to what could have caused this?

  • Something missing in a dog's diet that would lead him to chew on metal?

My dog has recently started chewing on metal objects - he'll chew the zipper and buttons off of jeans or other clothing, and anything else similar. Since this has started I've doubled the amount of time I walk him everyday, gotten him new toys and let him outside more to run around. None of it has helped so I don't think it's a boredom issue.

Could there be something missing in his diet that attracts him to the metal? He ONLY chews on metal, once the zippers and buttons are off he leaves the clothing, etc. alone. He hasn't chewed on anything else in the house.

  • How are your pictures organized on your computer?

I just got a new laptop, and would really like to avoid the mess of picture folders I had on my old laptop. How are your pictures organized on your computer?

    By date taken, subject, etc.?

  • Help with some creativity?

My best friend's little sister is in love with my horse, and has ridden him quite a bit...

As part of her Christmas present I'm letting her ride him in a couple horse shows next season, but I need some help...

I don't want to just say in the card "hey, you can bring him to some shows"... I want to give her something or give her present to her in a way that'll go along with the horse show present.

    Any ideas?

At the very least I'll make her a card with my horse's picture on the front, and on the inside say something like "Merry Christmas from your new horse show partner." or something like that.

(I want it to be a big deal because she's been leasing a horse for a while and that horse is moving out of state...)

  • What are some things all photographers should have?

I've been asked by family members what I want for Christmas... and would like to pursue photography. I have the camera (Nikon D5000) and a laptop, but that's about it.

What are some things you've found very useful or some things you wish you had, as a professional photographer?

  • Do you follow any training programs/use methods of a well known trainer?

For example... Clinton Anderson, Craig Cameron, John Lyons, Lynn Palm, etc.

Just interested to hear your opinions... if you do use the methods of one (or more) of these, or other well known trainers, what have your results been like?

And I'm not talking your local trainers... I mean anyone who has a book or DVD about training out there... (Although I guess all of those trainers are local to many people. ;) )

By the way, I am NOT looking for a trainer.

I have an instructor and several other people that I can go to if I need anything to do with riding or training my horse. This is just a question! :)
