  • Where can I buy cheese-making supplies in metro Detroit?

Does anyone know where I can put cheese making supplies in metro Detroit? It is simple to source Junket rennet and cultured buttermilk- both of which are in my kitchen now- but I would rather source cheese-making rennet and 'proper' cheese cultures.

If there is an option stores in Macomb county would be great!

  • who offers guided paddling camping trips in Michigan?

I would like to take a paddling / camping trip somewhere in Michigan. There are lots of places to do this but, like any traveling trip, there is the issue of getting back! I know of some companies that offer such trips out west; are there any companies which offer guided tours of paddling / shore camping in MIchigan?

  • Michigan Fishing Seasons and Catch and Release?

Michigan's fishing seasons are described in this document: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/general-fish... and include possession limits by species. I am mostly a catch-and-release fisherman and am planning a trip in early May before many of the species are open for possession. Is there a problem with fishing in an otherwise open body of water as long as I immediately release any out-of-season fish?

  • What are the ramifications of starting an LLC for freelance work in Michigan?

I'm a software developer who is, on top of my day-to-day job, doing some freelance web development work. I've been advised by another developer on that project that I should start an LLC for myself and have the client pay my fees (payment for the development work) to the LLC rather than to me personally. I live in Michigan (where starting an LLC is a relatively simple process).

What are the benefits / drawbacks to starting an LLC for this purpose? While I do occasionally perform outside work, it is not a major source of income (and, indeed, I've never needed to claim any outside work on my taxes because most of what I do is pro-bono, this project excepted).

  • Have you read this section of the congressional mortgage bailout bill?

The entire bill can be read from the source below, but here is the most startling section:

    Sec. 8. Review.

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.

  • Entry-Level Jobs as a College Graduate?

I'm sure that this has been asked before, but it is worth re-hashing: To those of you who have a) recently graduated with a BS in Engineering and have b) found work as Engineers- how did you get your jobs? Was it a question of having a contact at the company, career fairs, pounding the pavement, or something else altogether? Additionally, what previous collegiate or professional experience (internship, co-op) did you have that you felt assisted your in securing that position?

  • Engineering Jobs as a new college Graduate?

I am a fairly-recent college graduate (May, 2007) with a BS in Electrical Engineering. My internship and eventual employment were with an IT company as a Web Developer. Due to slow business, however, I was recently laid off. I would like to take this opportunity to move into the Engineering field, but it seems like all of the positions that companies in my area (metro Detroit) post are either for internship positions which require current attendance in school or for experienced engineers.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to break into the Engineering field when my work experience (2 1/2 years) has been in Web Development? Has anyone started an Engineering internship after graduation?

  • Can a resume mention previous customers?

I am developing a resume / cover letter(s). My previous position was with a company which performs IT / software development work for various clients. Given that these clients are publicly acknowledged (i.e., no secret contracts), can I mention these clients by name in my resume?

For example: "During my time with ABC Co., I analyzed and developed upgrades for XYZ Co.'s intranet."

I am prohibited, of course, from discussing specifics and trade secrets, but is it allowable to discuss generic systems on which I may have worked?

  • homebrew: beer foams wildly out of bottles when opened?

I've recently bottled my third batch of homebrew- this was a strong ale, mini-mash. It fermented in the primary fermenter for two weeks and then was transfered to the carboy for an additional three+ weeks, at which point the finishing gravity was at an expected value. I bottled the five gallons with .75c of priming sugar, as before, and everything went smoothly.

At about two weeks and then four weeks after bottling, I opened test bottles to check the progress. Both bottles were among the last to be bottled in this batch and both were completely still- they hadn't been moved in two weeks. When I opened both at room temperature, foam poured out of the bottles in great amounts, and continued to do so for about 60 - 90 seconds. The remaining beer was relatively well carbonated.

What could have caused this phenomenon? As stated, the finishing gravity was as expected (1009) and the beer had been completely still for several weeks.

  • Why does the electorate perfer personality over issues?

Having heard many people state their reasons for supporting a given presidential candidate, it seems that, for the vast majority, people choose based on issues or because of a personality preference. I've also heard many people state they will vote for a candidate with whom they have a substantial difference in opinion but whose 'personality' they like better.

In general, how important is a candidate's stand on the given issues (whatever that stand may be) to your likelihood of supporting that candidate? Would you support a candidate you substantially disagree with just because he/she is more 'likable'?

  • Does anyone know of a good place to take my upright bass to be set-up in metro Detroit?

I've had my upright for a few years now. It wasn't set-up very well when I bought it and now I would to have this done before I pick it up again this summer. Structurally, the instrument is in great shape and the strings are D'Addario Helicores with plenty of life. I am looking to have the action reduced and have the bridge positioned / carved / and possibly replaced. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I could go in Metro Detroit to have these services performed?

  • New Power supply: P4 connector, boot issue?

    Hello

I've just replaced the power supply in my Gateway (420GR) due to a bad fan in the otherwise working old supply. With the new supply, the fans only spin-on (all case, cpu, and ps fans) only when the P4 connector is not attached. (the keyboard lights go on for a second as on reboot but then the mouse and keyboard show no life) When the P4 connector is attached, the fans begin to spin (for a very small moment) and then stop. In neither case does the system seem to boot.

This behavior is experienced with both the new power supply and the ond supply, but only after the old supply was re-installed. Before the supply upgrade, there were no issues with the system.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this issue?
