  • What are some particularly tragic/dramatic/emotional movies or books?

I need a piece for prose and dramatic interpretation (DI) to compete with for my Speech[/Debate] team. I'm just trying to jog my memory more than anything, so anything that struck a serious emotional vein would be good. It doesn't have to be the entire movie/book that is intense, just 10 minutes or so worth in a movie and a few pages in a book.

Anything dealing with death of a close family member or friend would be particularly preferable as it hits home personally for me, and it's more likely I could get into it than with, say, rape.

I'd like to keep it to any movies or books within the 2000 range (I'll be more likely to recognize them), but anything's acceptable, really.

(PS: If it's a movie, it has to have been originally a book)

  • What are some songs similar to "How to Save a Life" and "Don't Jump"?

"How to Save a Life" - The Fray

    "Don't Jump" - Tokio Hotel

"Emotionless" - Good Charlotte (sort of)

    "Bad Day" - Daniel Powter

    "Boston" - Augustana

Any songs like the above would be cool. I know the above don't all sound alike, but mostly what I'm looking for is a very sad song. More of a slower, depressing beat than a happy, melodic one. If it focuses around depression, suicide, general death, or anything along those lines, that would be great. I'd prefer to steer clear of love songs, but if it meets the other requirements, then you can list it, I guess.

I'd rather not have any metal, country, rap, pop, etc. While I like some songs from each of those genres, that's just not what I'm looking for.

(Also, I listed the two in the title for a reason. Songs specifically like those two would be very appreciated)

    Thanks!

  • Organic/natural health products (i.e. body wash, face wash, lotion, etc.)?

I've been on a health kick lately, so I've been looking into organic alternatives to everyday health supplies. I already have somewhat natural shampoo/conditioner (Tressemme Naturals Aloe Vera and Avocado), but I need some help finding good alternative to my other products. I'd prefer not to involve homemade remedies, so store or online bought items are ideal.

Going to Walmart today, I looked at Burt's Bees, but they have a pretty large ingredients section. When I say organic, I mean organic. All of those extra sulfates and chemicals are unnecessary, aren't they? Something with minimum ingredients, and natural ingredients is what I prefer.

    I'd like alternatives to:

    -face wash

    -body wash

    -face lotion

    -body lotion

-hair lotion or moisturizer (I'm white)

    -chap stick

    -hand soap

    -toothpaste (just out of curiosity)

    Thanks so much!

  • Layers or no layers? I'm afraid they'll make my hair look too volumized. Links included?

    Here's me: "Link 1"

I have pretty full, wavy hair. I really want layers, but my friend warned me that my hair would just get way too volumized. However, along with the layers, I was planning on thinning my hair with thinning shears. Overall, how does this sound?:

Short, less than 1/2 inch trim to remove split ends.

Long, choppy layers that are between my collarbone and chin.

Very few, scattered, choppy, short layers that are between my chin and cheekbones.

Shorter bangs (but not short. Right now they're to my shoulders. I'd cut them to maybe, mid-neck).

Choppy, layered bangs (none of the layers going higher than my eyebrow).

    Thinned hair.

How does that sound? Does it sound like it'd be at all unmanageable? I don't use ANY hair products (aside from shampoo and conditioner) and I will not. I also don't put my hair in ponytails, so I don't have to worry about the layers not fitting in them.

To give you somewhat of an idea of what I want:

Bangs: "Link 2" I don't want them that short, or that much across my forehead, but I want them layered in a similar fashion.

Layers: "Link 3" and "Link 4" Basically, I just want the layers to be fairly choppy. A mixture of these two links would be nice.

So, do you think I could pull this off at all, or should I not get layers?

As a side note, my hair is parted to the right right now. I plan on changing it to the left. Here's an example of what it looks like: "Link 5" Which do you prefer, right or left?

Also, if you don't like the layers idea, please provide another. Dying or highlighting my hair is out of the question, though.

(My questions aren't going through, so I'll add the links to the additional details section)

  • Tampon help? Blaaaaaaah..?

I've used one before. Multiple times, actually. But every time I start my period, I go through, like, ten (probably an underexaggeration) before I can finally insert it. It's not fear holding me back - I know how to get it in without it hurting. I'm generally very determined, and I try everything possible to relax.

Are there any tips to make this easier? I don't want to go through this all the time.

As a side note, after I get one in, I can do them until my period is over no problem. It's just that first time I insert one that takes so long.

  • I'm considering starting yoga. A few questions?

I'm 16, female, not flexible. Recently, I've been doing a five minute stretch-session before bed. It's made me start to think that yoga would be something I was highly interested in - especially since I've been looking for something that would help with my flexibility and excess fat.

    1. I'm thin in the waist, but my lower body (i.e. calves, thighs, butt) is very large. I'm particularly interested in trimming down my thighs, but slimming it all would be great. I was wondering if yoga did this? I assume I'd be stretching my inner thighs and calves quite a lot - would this eventually burn a bit of fat or build muscle?

    2. Are there any yoga classes out there that are continuous? Locally, I can only find ones that last four to six weeks. If I was going to join yoga, I would think of it as a gymnastics sort of thing - lifetime membership unless I quit. Unfortunately, I can't find any of those. If there are, do you know if they're located in more than one location?

    3. Would it make more sense to do yoga at home by myself or to enter in a class?

  • What monopod would be good for my Nikon D3100?

My family and I are going on vacation in a few weeks to Glacier Park. My mom told me she would buy me a monopod before we went. I want one that is lightweight and not bulky. One that can do vertical and horizontal photos. If I remember correctly, my camera has an 18-35 mm lens and a 55-200 mm lens. It needs to be able to hold the weight of my camera and lens. I want a monopod that can function well outdoors (waterproof would be cool, if possible, so I could stick it in a stream or something to get closer to my subject). It needs to be able to swivel, preferably. And it needs to be around $50 (no less than 30, no more than 70).

If there was a monopod built specifically for my camera that fits these requirements, that would be fantastic. I know that's unlikely, though, so any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks!

  • Can futons damage your back?

My parents have had a futon since my thirty year-old brother was in college (I think, anyways). A couple years ago, when I was younger, I spent summers sleeping on it. It was great. I'd wake up with absolutely no back pain, and it's a queen sized futon, so I could move around all I wanted to--something I greatly desire. At the moment I sleep on a twin-sized bed. I always wake up with back pains, side pains, or some sort of ache. I think it'd be greatly improved if I were to sleep on a larger bed. But I don't particularly have the room in my room for a larger bed, and I don't think my parents would buy me one. I'm asking my parents if I can move the futon to my room, but my mom keeps saying she thinks it will hurt my back.

The mattress is thinner than my twin-sized one, but I think it's definitely thicker than most futon mattresses. It isn't split in half like some of the ones they sell. And it's been used, so I don't have to break it in at all. Thoughts?

  • Is the veggie snack and dip healthy?

I'm a vegetarian, but I'm not very fond of vegetables. For the last two years I've been getting by with eating practically no vegetables. Recently I decided that should stop. The only real change I've been able to make is on my Veggie Delite sandwich at Subway or the celery sticks (and green grapes) I eat at home.

Everday (or just about) I have celery sticks and green grapes that I dip into a melted mixture or Nutella and Natural Peanut Butter (smooth, not crunchy). Approximately per every celery stick, I dip half in the dip and keep half raw. I've realized recently that this probably isn't the healthiest dip around. But without it, I have difficulties stomaching the celery (especially in the larger quantities that I would normally eat with the dip). Is this dip very unhealthy (especially for an everyday snack), or is it okay as a means of incorporating some veggies into my diet?

Just out of curiosity, how healthy is my Veggie Delite sandwich I get from Subway?: 6 inch, Italian bread (I'm not getting wheat), extra pepper jack cheese, toasted, lettuce, banana peppers, red onions, and two jalapenos.

And another question, I read this somewhere and the thought spiked my interest. How healthy (or unhealthy) would it be to add a bit of lemon juice to raw veggies as a flavoring boost?

  • Is TSS likely? Symptoms, advice, etc.?

Soo... I literally just started wearing tampons yesterday. I'm sixteen. I've been very careful, taking them out at around six or seven hours if not before. But tonight, me and my friend were watching a movie. My mom said he could stay until the movie was over. I was exaughsted and was having a hard time keeping my eyes open. Next thing I knew, it's six am. My friend had turned everything off and left without waking me. At first I was happy, but the I remembered the damn tampon. I rushed upstairs to my bathroom and took it out.

Luckily, it's not as bad as I thought. I thought it was in for twelve hours, but it was only in for nine. Still, I'm at risk. But, I was wearing a Tampax Pearl Lite sized one. It's my heavy day. What are the chances of me getting it?

Also, I do feel faint. I understand that's a symptom? I think it's more so from me being so worried about this, and getting up so fast after only just waking up. I have no fever.

    When do symptoms begin appearing?

Is there any other damage the tampon could have done (most worriedly to my vagina) other than TSS?

    Thanks!

  • Psychology career that doesn't involve people?

I particularly enjoy psychology involving behavior, body language, and just mental processes; however, I don't care for people, and I've always imagined myself living alone and independently having little to do with people. So a counselor job definitely isn't an option. I was thinking of something along the lines of independent research or maybe some sort of psychology writer. Any ideas?

Also, how well does a career in psychology pay? And what field would behavior/body language/mental processes fall under? Social?

  • Is there a song about someone who keeps their emotions bottled up?

I'm looking for that one song that describes me, that I connect with. I tend to keep my emotions to myself, portraying a happy, carefree person on the outside. I'd prefer it to be a more saddening song (I don't know why, I just love sadder songs). Any songs about a friend who is thinking of suicide is also appreciated. And I'm a teenager. Any artists popular (more or less) amoung fifteen year old's would be preferred.

  • How to get more comfortable taking pictures?

I'm fifteen, and I want to be a photographer once I'm older. I have a D-SLR, I know how it works, I love taking pictures, I have some places in mind that can end in great shots. I even have a few friends willing to get a photo shoot done by me.

I love taking pictures. I really do. But I'm very self-conscious about it (the only thing I'm self conscious of, really). I don't know why.. I just feel like everyone is watching me (I normally have NO issue with this), judging me (diddo), and just thinking I'm plain weird (yet again!). If I had a license, I'd be glad to just go someplace secluded and away from people to take pictures (I plan on being a nature photographer anyways), but until then, I'm stuck with places around my house. I don't much like taking pictures of myself (it's just not as fun), but I feel MAJORLY self-conscious doing a photo shoot with friends. It's just.. I can't even explain it. I've never been this nervous about anything before. I'm usually very level headed, never awkward, and totally self-confident. But not with taking photos for whatever reason.. So anyways, my question is, how do I get over this fear? I don't want to wait another six months (when I get my license) to start taking pictures with my new camera I have barely used. But it's awkward taking pictures outside (even my own backyard because of the neighbors), around people, or of friends. HELP?

  • I'm a vegetarian. But I don't like vegetables. It's catching up to me. Help?

I'm fifteen and I've been a vegetarian for two years now. I've had those random spots through out where I've decided to start eating healthier simply because I know I should, everything just seems more appealing, or just to try new things. This is different though. None of those times stuck. I keep reverting back to eating bad foods. For example, my entire day is, Chocolate Chip Waffles, Bagel Bites, cheese pizza, cheese quesidillas, or random foods I find lying around. Although, I don't eat out very much, which has to at least count for something.. But anyways. This time is different, as I said. I've been getting chest pains, my breathing is more strained, stomach pains are an everyday and normal thing for me, I've grown rather weak, etc. It's becoming a serious health issue eating this awful. And although I dislike vegetables, I think this time I'll be willing to just get over it and eat them anyways. But, that doesn't mean I don't want to like the vegetables I'm eating.

    My questions are:

    1. Do you have any suggestions for kinds of vegetables to eat that taste fairly decent? I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but with how bland vegetables are, I think that'd help a great deal.

    2. Is there anything I can add to/do to/or dip the vegetables in to make them more appealing?

    3. What about beans, soups, nuts, etc.? I've never had most of those, so any you would recommend for a picky eater?

    4. I take a multivitamin. But I was thinking I should still take some specific ones as well. B12, vitamin D, and what else would you think?

    Thanks.

PS: I have this question in the Adolescent section because I figured some teens might be more in tough with my taste buds or what I'm going through.
