  • Does the mother's size affect the size of the baby?

I've always heard that the mother's size dictates the size of the baby at birth, however I'm having problem finding studies that back this factoid up.

Is anyone aware of some studies that tell us how the size of a baby is determined?

  • preschooler peeing on brother?

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. In the past week, the 4 year old has peed on his little brother three times!

My first inclination is that this is something that is a normal phase--has anyone else experienced this? My husband is a little concerned because he thinks this is not normal.

Second, any ideas on how to discipline him so he doesn't do it again? Every time it's happened they are in the room they share playing with toys. I know it's because the 1 year old is trying to play with the 4 year old's toys. We've tried time outs, privilege loss, toys in time out, and yes, spanking (although I'd rather not, I hate spanking.)

Has this happened to anyone else?

Anyone have any ideas on how to stop it from happening again?

  • How, exactly, do cloth diapers work?

For you cloth diapering mommies and daddies--

How exactly does it work? Do you use inserts? Covers? How do you clean? I remember my parents had buckets with lids that held a bleach solution, is that the case now a days? My husband is a little, uhm, body fluid phobic, any tips for him?

Are there any brands you like or prefer? Brands you avoid? How much do you think you invested dollar wise?

I just can't stand disposables, but before I make the leap, I want to ask around.

  • Why are parents so eager to start solids?

It seems like people are always chomping on the bit to start solids with their babies. Even though the AAP and doctors recommend starting solids (rice cereal, fruits, etc) at 6 months, parents often start feeding earlier. Why do you think that is?

    What's the hurry?
