  • Do you know about the Gerber Recall?

    Just wanted to share.

Gerber is offering a replacement for the recalled formula, which is in a 23.2 ounce plastic package from batch GXP1684, the company said in a statement on Friday on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.

The package's expiration date is March 5, 2013.

The product poses no health or safety risk but might have an off-odor, Gerber said.

"In some cases spit-up and other gastrointestinal complaints have been reported," it said.

  • Co-sleeping, semi-co-sleeping, occasionally, never shared?

Just interested in getting a tally on what you have done or are doing. I am not looking for opinions just want to know numbers. Are you/Have you

co-slept - baby/child slept the majority of the night in the parents bed

semi-co-slept - baby/child slept half or less then half the night in parents bed

occasionally co-slept - baby/child ended up in parents once in awhile but it was not something intended

Never shared a bed - baby/child always slept in their own crib

If someone has responded with the way that you slept give a thumbs up. If your response is not posted yet then be the first to answer it. Please don't give any answer thumbs down. This is just asking families what they have done.

    In this sentence there is:

    1 - noun

    3 - pronoun's

    3 - verbs

    1 - adverb

    3 - adj's

    1 - preposition

  • What is the difference between Cow and Gate formula?

I am from the US and a lactation consultant so i am very familiar with breastfeeding and US formula but i see questions on here about Cow and Gate formula and heavier cream? What are these exactly. Is cow formula considered the same as the formula used in the US? What does Gate formula come from? What is the heavier cream that is used?

  • Verifying a lactation consultant?

I have seen a couple of post over the last few that made me think. Only someone who is board certified is legally allowed to use the title lactation consultant. By board certified that means IBCLC. There are other types of people who 'help, support, teach' breastfeeding. A certified lactation counselor has at least 40 hours of training and must pass a test.

My question is are you aware that you can go to the IBCLC website and verify a lactation consultant certification. http://americas.iblce.org/ibclc-registry

  • Best answers chosen a lot?

In the last few days every time I turn on my computer I have like 5-10 messages stating that my answer has been chosen as the best one. These questions are from months to years ago. I was wondering if this was happening to anyone else.

  • Infertility and breastfeeding?

I am looking for stories from any women who had infertility problems (treated with hormones, medication, insemination, etc) who chose to breastfeed but had troubles making milk. I would like success stories on what you did (medications or treatments used) that helped you to increase your milk supply and you were successfully able to breastfeed.

  • infantrisk center is now open, USA?

Okay, so this is not so much of a question but I thought it was really important to pass this information along to all of you mothers and soon to be mothers. A great site to put in your favorites.

The InfantRisk Center will be dedicated to providing up-to-date evidence-based information on the use of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Our goal is to provide accurate information regarding the risks of exposure to mothers and their babies. By educating healthcare professionals and the general public alike, we aim to reduce the number of birth defects as well as create healthy breastfeeding relationships.

  • Re: Why MSG in bad for infants?

I saw this posted about 2 hours ago. The person wanted to know why MSG couldn't be given to infants. I was surprised to see that no one knew that MSG was in infant formula. Did anyone know that?

  • Has anyone pressed charges against another child for punching your child?

My son had an incident where a group of 5 children (11-18 in age) came up to him at our house. He was in the front yard and never left the yard. My son and these other children started talking 'smack' back and forth and one of the children (probably around 15) came up to my son and punched him in the face.

I called the cops and when the officer arrived I told him I wanted to press charges. We did not know the other children but my husband tracked them down in the car and followed the kid until the police officer showed up. Anyways when I told the officer that I wanted to press charges - he seemed very rude about it. He said " I spoke with the child and his mother, his mother was very upset and I think that she will discipline him. I'm not telling you not to press charges but most of the time more harm comes out of it then good."

It blew me away. I want my son to know that you don't go around punching people in the face without consequences. I feel that even though my son may have been talking 'smack' that it went above and beyond for that child to walk up to him and punch him in the face.

So, I just wanted to know if anyone else has been in this situation and what was the results.

    Thanks

  • Delivery experience with breastfeeding?

I am curious to know what women's experience was in terms to delivery and breastfeeding - in general I want to know - when your baby was born was he/she placed right on your stomach after wards and allowed to stay there until she/he nursed or was your baby placed on your stomach for a minute and then taken by the nurse's to do their tasks (weight, vaccinations, exam, ect).

Also if you could add in where you delivered at - state, providence and if the hospital was titled as a breastfeeding or baby friendly hospital.

  • When breastfeeding isn't going so great in the hospital what words could be said?

Working on another presentation for the staff and would love personal responses. If you have or are breastfeeding and when your baby was born and the baby wasn't latching well at the hospital what phrases or words from the nursing staff helped you or would have helped you.

  • What is some news stories that you have heard lately that blow your mind?

A dad threw his 4 year old child over a bridge and killed her so he wouldn't have to pay child support

Police said they found a 3 1/2-week-old infant stabbed and decapitated in a Texas home on Sunday and his mother "screaming that she killed her baby" after the devil told her to do it.

It just saddens me to see things like this happen. To 'normal' people we would never consider doing these things. It just blows my mind how someones brain can missfire like this
