  • Is the name Ava just too popular to use?

My husband and are potentially adopting a baby (he or she is due early next year), and while we don't know the baby's sex we're starting to think about names while we wait. We already have a boy named Noah, and a girl named Sophia.

We'd love to use the name Ava if the baby is a girl...but is it too overdone now? We don't know any little Ava's in real life, but we do know it's extremely popular. Is it too trendy and ridiculous, or classic and timeless? This is the only name we both truly love right now, but our kids already have pretty common names.

If you think Ava is too popular, are there any other similar names you'd recommend? How about middle names? We like Ava Rosemary.

    Thanks!

  • Question about same-sex marriage in New York?

My husband and I were married in Massachusetts in 2004, at which point we were living in Boston. We didn't have a wedding ceremony with family and friends, though. We relocated to Long Island, NY last summer, knowing that our marriage would be recognized by NY state. And now that same-sex marriage is legal here, we would like to renew our vows in time for our 7-year anniversary, so we can finally celebrate with our friends and family.

So, my question: Is it possible to obtain a marriage license and marriage certificate if we're already legally married in Massachusetts? Will it change anything, legally? We have a marriage certificate already, but it would mean a lot to have a New York marriage certificate, since this is where we plan to stay. Or will we be laughed out of the City Clerk's office?

    Thanks,

    Adam
