  • Am I wrong in thinking that evolution is not concerned with origins of life?

I'm very aware that opponents of evolution perpetuate the scrutiny of ideas hundreds of years old (Darwin, Huxley, etc.) like they were the most current knowledge base of modern day evolutionary thinkers, but what really surprises me is that so many people think that evolution is a theory concerned with the origin of all life. As I understand it, evolution is just a mechanism of change and doesn't explain the origins of life. As an anthropologist I find it frustrating to rehash this point over and over again with students (even those who believe evolution). Am I wrong in my understanding, am i just blowing this out of proportion? If I am right, how would other educators suggest broaching these misunderstandings?

  • Why Does my sternum hurt when I sleep at night?

It started several months ago and now the pain that happens when I sleep on my side (my usual sleeping position) is great enough to wake me and keep me up the rest of the night!

I haven't gained any extra weight, nor have I encountered any known rib injuries.

Just not sleeping on my side is not very helpful advice because I tend to roll there once I am already asleep!

  • day spa for a loved one... What to choose?

I am buying a spa package for my fiance (who has been feeling a little down in the dumps)...

This place near us has a great deal the only problem is that I have to choose which spa treatments up front that she will want...

I'm a guy ( a big dumb brute of a rugby player to be exact) so I am kind of lost as to what this stuff is or which one she will like...

I already know the waxing is probably not a good message to send (I'm not that dumb), but which ones should i choose?

here is the add directly from their site:

    Pick any 3 for $99 ($120 Fri-Sat)

Δ Herbal Body Wrap (1/2 hr.)

Δ Wax - 1/2 Leg, Bikini OR Brow & Lip

    Δ Microdermabrasion (1/2 hr.)

    Δ Customized Wash/Cut/Style

    Δ Massage (1/2 hr.)

Δ Hot Stone Therapy - Body, Face, Hands OR Feet

    Δ Facial (1/2 hr.)

Δ Pedicure OR Manicure (1/2 hr.)

    Cheers!

  • How long does a batter have to decide if he is going to hit a fastball?

It's been a few years since I played and am now trying to remember how the saying and or calculations go!

I remember something about a 94 mph gives a batter the same amount of time to decide to swing or not as the time it takes for a dropped beer bottle to hit the floor...

but I'd like something a little bit more precise!

  • what is a kind way to ask my wife to trim/shave her pubic hair?

It's not an appearance thing! I'm not that shallow it's more of a comfort thing. her hair will rub and even scratch me during intercourse... not cool! We have a strong sex life but feel like it could be so much better if we could get past this painful issue!

Tried talking about issues like this but always ends up turning out bad!

    Ladies some advice please...

  • Why is the handy man's secret weapon called duct tape?

The one thing that duct tape isn't good for is repairing ducts... I have been in HVAC for several years and that's the first thing you learn!

So where does that name come from?

  • what should be done about all the old people on facebook?

    Purely for fun...

but I must admit I get a little annoyed when my mother adds me as a friend or my aunt comments on my wall posts telling me to watch my language cause I used the S@#T word about an exam.

You can't (or at least I can't) tell my mother no you can't be my friend (mostly because the stories she would think up about what I was hiding from her would be worse than the reality)...

but now she is so limited that all she can see is that I have a profile...

    so have your say...

  • Should rugby 7's be added for the 2012 olympics?

They are making a push and it is very popular around the world. Everyone has a decent chance even the USA ( a perennial kick around on th 15's circuit). It's fast and high scoring.

    So have your say!

  • Are hunters more green than environmentalist?

According to Steve Sanetti in his article Hunter Green: the people behind a conservation success story (washington post), hunters are really model of "green" living. To an extent I agree with this as long as the laws are upheld.

As a life long sportsman I can agree with him that the meat I gather is both healthier and environment friendly than store bought meat. I can also attest to the money I give each year to support conservation and that a sound culling is a good tool in population maintenance.

Human were made to eat meat, you can tell from our dentition (teeth) and digestive tract. So is hunting really a better way of life?
