  • 17 month old not walking?

I have a 17 month old son who isn't walking yet. He is very bright & happy. He knows a lot of words, loves books, Lego's, puzzles and playing games.

He has never been in daycare but we do have play dates so he has seen other children walking (which does encourage him)

He can walk all the way from his room to our kitchen (when he wants to) he will walk back & forth from the couch to me while Im sitting on the floor. Basically he only walks when he wants to, he would rather crawl or here lately he "walks" on his knees. And he will only walk when he has someone to walk to, no independent walking for fun.

The doctor said that if he is not walking by his 18 month checkup then she will want to send him to physical therapy and maybe even a neurologist. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Should I even be thinking of an MRI??

  • Help! Need some discipline advice!?

Ok parents, I need all the advice I can get. I have a 13 month old son who is testing me to the LIMITS! And yes, I know that is what they do but he is wearing me thin. I am so exhausted from chasing him around the house & telling him "no, no" its literally stressing me out (Im breaking out in hives & hair is falling out) everyday- day after day its the same thing, I can remove him from something 100x & he STILL goes back. I always try positive reinforcement , I will "distract" him. I just dont know what to do. I have a 6yr old & she never did this. I feel like Im the worst mother in the world, today was so bad that I popped him on the hand. I dont believe in hitting, spanking or violence in any way shape or form & I KNOW he didnt know what that meant....gosh, Im at a loss here & seriously dont know what to do...any help (no judgements please) would be greatly appreciated.

  • How many jars of baby food should my baby take?

My doctor said that I can introduce my son to solid foods between 4-6 months depending on if I thought he was ready. So I decided to try feeding him this week and he loves it! He ate half a jar the first feeding (applesauce) and wanted more but I didnt want him to get sick or not take his bottle. I know that the most important thing right now is his formula. So all this week I have been giving him 1/2 jar of applesauce mixed w/ rice cereal for breakfast & dinner, he has loved it & seems so much more content since starting the baby food, he is even napping longer for me...well my question is should I start giving him more baby food? Should I give him two jars a day since I think that he wants it? After each feeding he kicks & reaches out for the spoon, like hes wanting MORE!

Additional info: He is 4 1/2 months...16lbs, in the 85% for height & 55% for weight, he was born at 9lbs..takes 30oz of formula per day & has been sleeping through the night since he was 9 weeks old.

P.S, I dont want to hear about he should be eating solids until he's 6 months...my ped. gave me the green light & my daughter started at 4 months as well & she is very active & healthy!! I wants some solid advice from parents who can help, thanks!!

  • What should I set my dual thermostats..need help!?

I have a two story house and its total electric. My downstairs is set at 65 & upstairs is set at 64, but its freezing in all the rooms upstairs b/c the sensor thermostat is in the hall way and the heat rises from down stairs. So the unit outside never kicks on b/c the downstairs unit is doing all the work. So what Im unsure of is, should the upstairs therm. be higher then downstairs or should I keep it the same???

  • What is your baby's naptimes like?

I have a 3 month old son and he is already sleeping through the night, hes been doing that since about 9 weeks old. But during the day his nap times are often short and sporadic. Sometimes he will sleep for an hour in a half at most, but usually he will just do 20-45min naps and its random all through out the day. He usually will fuss before he actually sleeps and I just hate it when he cries, I try to comfort him and that will last for about 10min and then hes fussing again until hes finally gives up and naps. Is this normal? Is anyone else struggling with nap time with their baby? I would love to suggestions and advice! Thanks.

  • What to do about my friend? Help!?

My best friend is pregnant and her baby is due any day now and we were talking about kids and when they get older and she said that she is going to "spank her son" when he misbehaves. I cannot believe it!! She has been around my kids there whole life and she knows how I discipline my kids and I do not believe in violence. My kids are so well behaved and respectful and I never had to resort to hitting them, I just don't know what to do, I know nothing will happen right now but her son will eventually get bigger and Im afraid that she will make good on her word. I couldn't stand the sight of that and I wouldn't want to expose my kids to that either, but we have been friends since middle school,,,,can anyone give me some advice on how to handle this situation when and if it comes up!

  • Why are there so many negative parents on Y!?

Ive noticed that there are so many negative parents on here, if someone doesnt agree with you then you are told you are being a bad parent. Like for instance, someone asked about baby's crying...I told them that IMO I think its ok to let them cry for a little while before you get out of bed to get them...see if they can self soothe back to sleep (my son is 9 wks old and sleeps from 7-7 straight) and holly cow, you would have thought that I told the lady to beat the child! Seriously, I understand that we will have diffrent opinons on child rearing but instead of critizing why dont you educate. Respond with positive answers instead of hurtful ones. I think at the end of the day we or most of us want our children to be loving, happy and caring human beings and I know that I am accomplishing that! So, is it just me or does anyone else feel that there are too many critizing people on here??

  • Has anyone read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy baby?

Hi, I have a 9 week old baby boy and he does great at night, he usually goes to sleep around 7:30 and will wake up once between 2-5 for a bottle and goes back to sleep until 8. The only "problem" I have is his nap time schedule. It seems that he gets over tired and refuses to sleep during the day, he will cry for what seems like an eternity before I can comfort him and get him to take a nap. So my pediatrican recommended this book to help me guide him into more of a sleep schedule. The problem is I have no idea what this doctor is talking about, plus the book has like 500 pages and its very jumpy and doesnt always make since. If someone could give me a run down or some helpful advice, I would forever appreciate it...or maybe a general example of your babies schedule. Thanks!

  • Is it normal to get bored with sex after having a baby?

My husband and I just had our second child two months ago, and Im fully recovered from birth and we've been given the green light to have sex, and we do. But its just not the same, Im kind of bored and find myself faking it just to get it over with. Is this normal? Should I try something else? I dont want this to effect our marriage.
