  • Has anyone read Anders Behring Breivik's Manifesto?

I have and found it chillingly interesting.

Here we have an obviously well read individual, astute enough that he made millions of Euro's off a system he despised.

While I was sickened by some of the content I did find myself agreeing with some.

I also found it completely contradictory, He renounces all Ideologies as evil, yet the manifesto by it's very nature promotes an Ideology of his own.

It's also contradictory that a man so obviously intelligent has resorted to the most base and lowest form of social protest, violence and terrorism.

When someone starts killing people, especially innocent children, their motives, no matter how noble they perceive them or how interpreted they are by the public as a whole, goes out the window and ends up meaning less than nothing.

I think both Marxism and Fascism have positive traits as well as the obvious negative ones. An ideal system of government is where we can extract the best of all ideologies and discard the evil that they all hold. Then, and only then and providing that religion never becomes involved, will we have true lasting peace between nations.

  • Do you think that the phone hacking scandal will end the Newspaper as we know it.?

The phone hacking scandal that is taking place at the moment, will not herald the end of The News Of The World, but I think that every Murdoch owned newspaper will also become targets for investigation of immoral actions and meet the same fate. Other, more high end newspapers will also suffer too.

I predict that before the decade is out. All newspapers, or at the very least 'Tabloid Journalism', will be a thing of the past and that the only news that people would get would be via the mediums of TV or Internet.

Broadsheets like the The Times and the FT will survive but not much else.

Do you think my prophesy is correct or not?

  • Alternative Oscar History?

Since 1927 The Best Picture Oscar has been awarded 84 times. I've seen them all and in my opinion, only 14 of those movies truly deserved it. These are:

It happened one night in 1934,

Gone With The Wind in 1939,

An American In Paris in 1951,

    On The Waterfront in 1954,

    The Apartment in 1960,

    Lawrence Of Arabia in 1962,

    The Godfather in 1972,

    The Sting in 1973,

The Godfather Part II in 1974,

    Unforgiven in 1992,

    Forrest Gump in 1994,

    Titanic in 1997,

LOTR Return Of The King in 2003

    The King's Speech in 2011.

SO in conclusion, that means that for 70 of those years, the Academy has got it dead WRONG!.

What do you think should have won in the years that they got it wrong. Try to look further than the last 20 odd years though. I think Yankee Doodle Dandy should have won in 1942, Mr Deeds Goes To Town should have won in 1936, Singing In The Rain should have won in 1952 and The Wild Bunch should have won in 1969 Trading Places should have won in 1983 and Gran Torino should have won in 2008.

    Let me know.

  • Whitesnake has just released their new album Forevermore. Has anyone got it and what are your thoughts?

I think there is something there for fans of all previous incarnations of the band and as an album, it's the best thing they've done since Slide It In.

    Anyone else think the same?

  • Can you search historic voters rolls?

I am trying to find information on my paternal grandfather and not much is known about him. I have found out the address he was living at in 1928 thanks to The National Archives. Census records for these years are not available and won't be until I'm knocking 70.

Does anyone know whether or not local councils keep records of their voters rolls for each year and if they do, are they available for public viewing?. I figure that if I could just get his date of birth then there would be a tangible lead that I can research through the BMD index.

In case someone can be more specific, the area I am interested in is The West Riding of Yorkshire which today would come under the local authority of Kirklees District Council.

    Thanks in advance and anticipation.

  • What's the time on board Ship?

Sounds like a silly question I know, but I've always wondered that if a ship's at sea and regularly passing through different lines of longitude into different time zones. What's the time aboard the ship? Is it the time that they left the last port or do they alter it with each passing zone? I'm not planning a cruise or anything, but I've always been curious.

  • What do you consider to be the worst song of ALL time and why?

Everybody has at least one song that when heard, makes you feel nauseous, dizzy and makes you physically want to rip your ears off your own head. For me there are many, but the worst has to be The Stylistics - I Can't Give You Anything. What's yours?

  • Why do people allow SKY to hijack major sports events so the public has to pay through the nose to watch them?

For years now we've seen SKY obtain the monopoly on the majority of sporting events. The recent ASHES Cricket series being a good example. These should be on free to air channels without the need for further channel upgrades or costs. Some people cannot afford to upgrade to Sky Sports therefore missing out on these events. Should it change?
