In my spare time when i'm not teaching Archery in New Hampshire, I Read and study Books on Fish species, psychology of fish, Tank Planting and aquascaping, and Behavior and Breeding Habits of Tropical and Temperate fish Species. I Breed Livebearing species, Cichlids, Plecos, Currently working on Discus And Polypterus Senegalus ( Common Bichirs) as well as doing advanced housing for distinct watered species. I love planted tanks as well and only use live plants in all my tanks. I Love fish and fishing as a sport. During the summer i raise sport fish such as Pickeral and Largemouth Bass to get a better understanding of the species in the New Hampshire Area. Always feel free to email me, i enjoy helping out and love to lend a hand when needed. Also, I have a 6 month old Savannah Monitor.
Angel fish and Discus Problems?
First off, I'd like to say I'm Back! I've been on my tanks and fish knowledge for a while now and now i'm back to help out as much as i can.
Secondly, i have two problems, I have a Veil Angelfish, only a small 1" and its constantly staying at the top of the water, mouthing the surface. Any ideas? I have my hands full with my second problem which i'll explain now.
Problem number two.
Recently i've started aquiring Discus, I lost my first set of two to hole in the head disease.
Even more recently i bought 5 small 1.5" discus. They all appear to have tiny needle sized holes in the facial region. I'm not sure if this is just a natural occurrence or not. the dots seem symmetrical in nature but are not perfectly spaced on either side. Any suggestions as to what this is? I lost one out of the five as of noon today. Two others seem heavily plagued by these tiny holes, while one is seeming to be unscathed by it. Not quite sure what to do from here or how to get them to eat.
Currently i am treating them with metronizole and Melafix.
( In a quarantine tank.) Purchased the discus Tuesday and drip acclimated them to the new water.

an african feather fin catfish
and some sunfish about 4.
and 2 plecos, both small, 1 sailfin spotted, 1 common
Please give me any ideas at all, i have no idea why this is happening but i do know that i have had a similar attack on a corydora that i believed to be from the same feather fin.
I'm not sure if its a sickness in the tank or not.
anything will help.
thanks.

the poor girl seemed to be having seizure when she died, she died in my hands, her mouth was wide open and gasping when i found her. she was floating head to the surface, tail to the bottom of the tank, and still alive when i took her out and tried to resuscitate her.
she died less then 1 min after. the other death was the exact same thing.
I have 4 more bullheads and they are very precious to me. whats going on?
