Tricky Question, but Simple Math?
Two boats leave from opposite sides of a lake at the same time moving at constant but different speeds.
The boats pass each other at a point 720 meters from shore A. They reach the other sides and turn
around (instantaneously). They pass each other again on the return trip 400 meters from shore B. How
wide is the river?

Mr. and Mrs. Jones entered a bank and cashed checks for the same amount. They received the proceeds in pennies, half- dollars, and silver dollars, but not in the same combination. However, they each received the same total number of coins.
What is the smallest possible value for the amount of each check?
Each person has at least one of each coin.
