Does anyone know about WWII Walderslade POW camp in Kent?
I am putting together a pack on Walderslade for a group of school children and can't find much about the POW camp that I know was there during WWII. I know it's number was 117 and it was on Hook Meadow, opposite the Hook and Hatchet, now the Poachers Pocket. It wound up in June 1948, but I can't find when it started. Any info, however peripheral, would be gratefully received.
4 AnswersHistory1 decade agoHow can you tell the period of a mirror?
I have just inherited a beautiful wooden hand mirror. A relative says it's probably Victorian or Edwardian. (This is going on family folklore!)
The mirror has a woman painted on the back, wearing a flowing blue and gold dress, off the shoulders, with her hair up high, holding a vase full of flowers, and surrounded by a garland of painted flowers. On the front is a painting of the same flowers just below the glass. There are some more flowers on the bottom of the handle. I know it must be fairly old because the glass has tiny ripples in it.
Normally with stuff like this I would go by the dress of the woman on the back, but I have a suspicion that a historical portrait was put on the back. Did this actually happen?
Thank you very much in advance, I can give you further info if you want!
(And I'm sorry if this is the wrong category, I really couldn't find a good category for it!)
5 AnswersHistory1 decade agoHow can I change an already written debate into an essay?
I wrote a debate for part of my English GCSE course, and I submitted it as a coursework essay, but my teacher says it must be rewritten into a proper essay. How can I do this?
(The motion of the debate is 'Clothes should not be overpriced because of a designer label')

1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoTampon pain?
I've just started using a tampon for my first time. The thing is,it really hurts, both when I was putting it in and when it is in.I'm pretty sure it's not too big for me,and I can't figure out why it should hurt so much!
This isn't my first period,or anything like it,so it can't be that.

How can I avoid drinking alcohol at parties?I am a 15 year old girl, and at every party I go to someone always starts pressuring me to get drunk.Quite apart from the fact that I don't like the taste of alcohol,my parents are incredibly strict about such things, and I have no desire to get grounded for the rest of my natural life! Also,I've heard way too many horror stories about people choking on their own vomit, and getting raped etc.
I've tried just saying "I don't want to,thanks" or "I don't like the taste" but it has no effect. If I said my parents would ground me,it would just be laughed at.Please help!

16 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoAs a sufferer from it,is there a chemical cause for depression?
I know that serotinin,as a 'happy' endorphin tends to make people feel better, and that it is released during exercise, among other things. Is there a similar chemical that is a factor for mild-moderate depression?
