In the UK, what does "Geez" mean?
I'm from Canada. When I was talking to students in the UK, they sometimes called me "geez", which I thought was short for "geezer", someone old (I'm not that old!). But one of them whom I kind of trust said it was not meant as an insult but a way of showing respect. Is she right or were they actually taking the micky out of me.
