Girlfriend hasn't paid rent in 5 months, what to do?
She was jobless for about 3 months, not really looking for work. She got a job 2 months ago and says she will pay me back each month from the end of this one. She owes me about £1000 for rent & food.
But the last draw came last night when we were out at dinner, she asked how much money 'we' have left and said that she only has £90. I asked if she could make her money last until the end of the month, she said that she could, but that she just won't go out. As if I'm meant to give her more cash for her to go out. Is it wrong of me to not trust her and ask her to get an advance from her work? She said that she doesn't think she could get an advance because 'head office is so far away', like she couldn't ask her manager. Am I really out of place here?
5 AnswersSingles & Dating10 years agoDo I need to give me address to my previous employer?
The job ended very badly & I'm going to report to the Employment Tribunal that the boss was and is abusive to his staff.
The boss says that he sent my last pay (which was due 2 weeks ago & I've been struggling to get it) but needs to know my address to process the pay.
I really don't want to give it to him because frankly, he scares me.
Thanks in advance

This is a serious question. Please no wise cracks about paranoia.

1 AnswerLaw & Legal1 decade agoIs this letter to my old boss about him paying me ok?
Hey all, my old boss refused to pay me when I went in, I said that I won't go anywhere private to talk to him & if he want's to talk, we can do it here where there are witnesses. I demanded that he pays me straight away or I will go to the police, he then kicked me out. In an email later he says:
I never arranged for you to drop in today, you misunderstood what i said, I said that you should contact me on the 28th to discuss wages. The reason I said that was that I could let you know how I intend to process your pay.
You were with us less than a month, you've never fulfilled fully the job requirements you were set out to do. ie you were employed not only to make coffee but one or two other things such as;
1. Put together a barista manual / traning notes
2. Work on the development of the coffee side of the business with us
3. Set an example to other staff with things such as time keeping (specifically mentioned) etc
4.Stock control and some other jobs
5. Train other staff
The role was on a trial basis, and my understanding was that you had 8 years experience in the coffee industry.
In reality;
1. You were rarely on time for work, but regularly late, anything from 10-15 minutes to 40 minutes or so, on many many occasions, Punctures, road accidents, train delays, bus delays, clocks slowing down, winding the clock the wrong way, I think I heard it all, I was quite embarrassed for you. Try leaving earlier and aim to be early, like everyone else, simple.
2. No guidance notes or manual was ever produced.
3. Business development went as far as 'have you seen this sandwich menu another coffee shop do'
4. Never took over stock control or ordering.
5. No evidence of any training or guidance given to other staff.
On the evidence I've seen, you have probably 6 - 12 months coffee experience.
I'm happy to put all of the above in a job reference should you want one, it would include the fact that I think you're virtually un- employable and the worst timekeeper I've ever witnessed my whole working life (indeed I believe you were sacked from your previous job on the same basis ?).
I would like to add, and also remind you that I paid you a cash advance, as a favour to you (which was quite obviously never appreciated) of £400 to help you out.
Despite your numerous shortcomings, your pay will however be processed, and will take one of the following 2 forms;
Either a 'paye' (taxed at source) wage payment or a cash payment, not taxed, but recorded as a casual worker due to the limited time you worked here, it would then be down to you to inform the revenue of your earnings and arrange payment of tax and National insurance yourself at the end of the financial year.
Both are legal methods of dealing with your pay.
A rate was discussed in the first instance, but I have to point out to you, that this rate was based upon you fulfilling certain criteria of the job description, as mentioned above, none of which you actually did. This will be taken into consideration.
When you attended the shop today, you were asked to leave due to your strange behaviour. You are not permitted to return to the shop unless I invite you. For the time being, you're banned from the premises.
If you were decide to act in a way I think is unreasonable it might slow the whole process down and will not help your case.
If you need to contact me, please email me.

To which I will reply:
You did not tell me to contact you on the 28th. I said that I would be back on the 28th to collect my pay and you replied with, "Ok, or I'll email or text you before that". The other employees are usually paid on the 28th of the month, so it is reasonable that I also get paid on that day.
I was excited to take the job but quickly learned of your overbearing supervision, constant criticism, verbal abuse & aggressive attitude towards myself & the other employees. This is the reason for me leaving & I didn't tell you this at the time because I was afraid that you would withhold my pay, which you are doing anyway.
The agreed hourly wage is £8.50, I worked 122.75 hours, which is £1043.37. You gave me £400 as an advance, which I appreciated, so you owe me £643.37
I am giving you 7 days to pay me, by either cash or via bank account, which I have given you the details of in a previous email. If you decide to pay cash, I will take care of the tax myself.
Making an unlawful deduction or refusing to pay an employee is illegal and I will contact the appropriate office if I do receive the correct payment within 7 days.
Thank you,
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoNazi racist friend of girlfriend - ok to ask her to leave?
My girlfriend has arranged for her friend to stay at our place for a few nights, earlier she called someone a packie, but I didn't think too much of it. But just now she did a heil hitler and put a save Islam in it & said how relieved she is now that she did it. So I said that she has to leave by tomorrow. She tried to explain to me that she's just patriotic & simply doesn't believe in mixing the races too much. I think my girlfriend should find another friend. Am I out of place here?

Talking social security paid from either their home country or the UK itself.
If they can, then this is a much easier policy to change.
