  • Pregnant and anemic...opinions?

I have been a vegetarian for 8 years, and love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. I am very pregnant with my 3rd child, and I am anemic....again. This happened the last time around.

I am educated on all the veggie sources for iron, and try to include them in my diet. Tonight I was looking at how to add blackstrap molasses to my diet (iron rich), but decided it is a disgusting waste product of the sugar industry.

I am also educated on the difference between heme and non-heme iron, and that when combined with vit. C, iron is better absorbed.

My question is, would you consider sparingly consuming organic pasture raised beef or venison to help aleviate the anemia? I am stuck on this decision, and wanted opinions from other veggies.

    Thanks.

  • antisocial female budgie...help?

I have 3 budgies....two males and one female. The males are wonderfully sweet, love to play with my daughters and really do well with attention. The female, as maybe to be expected, has NOT warmed up to the family and just refuses socialize with us after a year.

We have decided to leave her alone and allow her to view us handling and loving her male companions, but if we even get near her she goes nuts. For example, this morning.....i opened the door to their cage and all 3 came out and were climbing around the cage, I approached gently and offered my hand to the male next to her and she just went absolutely bat sh it and starting flying all over the house and screaming like i was gonna kill her......ever since then she has not gone near the cage and whenever i walk by wherever she is, she goes crazy and starts the flying thing.

Is this normal for females? If we manage to catch her with a towel and try to give her love all she wants to do is bite and cry....i know biting is common for females, but should we just give up on her and tolerate her unwillingness to trust us?

And all 3 birds were purchased in a local pet store as babies, not chicks, but young. They had no previous abuse.

    thanks for the input.

  • did you know that saturated/trans fats have been linked to reoccurring mastitis?

I visited my lactation consultant today, and I told her about the frequent questions on here about reoccurring /chronic infections and mastitis. She informed me about a new study that has connected unhealthy fats to this problem. I just wanted to pass on the info to other mamas out there that are passionate about helping breastfeeding mothers and such.

I was very surprised to learn this, but excited because I never know how to answer those questions asking for help after they have done all the obvious things to prevent breast infections.

I am working on a project for political science, and I am searching for ideas from knowledgable breastfeeding mamas.

Besides the outright health benefits of breastfeeding, how do all those benefits translate into the social and political well-being?

at the moment i am also searching on the net for websites related to this but your help would be great!

    thanks

  • lipase in breastmilk?

okay so i have been doing a bit of research on extra lipase in breastmilk....i think i have this problem.....my frozen milk always has a bit of a sour taste to it.....and i threw out a 2 months worth of stash a while back thinking it had gone bad

then tonight i defrosted a bag to practice cup feeding my 4 month old.....this bag was only 1 week old and it had a weak sour taste too....so i am thinking i have a lipase issue

any other mothers our there with this problem and what is the best way to handle it?.....did you bother scalding the milk before freezing or did your baby drink it with the funky taste?

    thanks!

  • to extended breastfeeders...what do you think?

i am expecting my second daughter in June...and my first daughter will be 5 in May. We breastfed until she was 2 years and awhile after that for comfort measures or whatnot. She is still VERY fond of my breasts and is also very excited about the arrival of her baby sister and i have been educating her well on the birth and breastfeeding of the new baby. She has asked a few times if she can nurse when i have milk again.

And i have actually considered it or thought about giving her some expressed milk. We do not drink cow's milk, we are soy drinkers.

So to those mommies that breastfed for a long period, would you recommend this?

to those who are against any extended breastfeeding i do not need your criticisms as i am an educated woman who fully realizes the benefits of breast milk without hangups...i am only asking opinions of those who have experience in this

  • should i paint my cool 50's METAL cabinets with acrylic enamel or something oil based?

i am in the process of stripping old paint and priming the cabinets with oil based....i have conflicting opinions as to what i should finish them off with.....i really like the high high gloss plastic look and feel of acrylic (not to mention less hassle than oil) but then again i want to go with the best paint and durability for the job. These cabinets are 50+ years old and super cool.....answers from anyone experienced or a paint expert please!
