Should I be getting paid for 3 hours of work for a work meeting in Oregon?
I recently had a friend tell me that a mutual acquaintance was informed a couple years back that there is an Oregon law that requires that employees are to be paid for a minimum of 3 hours of work for any sort of work related meeting.
For example: if Starbucks had some sort of district meeting that I was required to go to, and it lasted 87 minutes, they would still be required by Oregon law to pay me for a minimum of 3 hours of my time.
Is this true? If so, can anyone track down the actual law? Sounded a little far-fetched to me...but that's also what made me think it might be true.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoGift ideas for someone interested in FBI/CIA/criminology? ?
I have a friend who's interested in going to school for criminology and she eventually wants to work for the CIA or FBI. Can anyone recommend any gifts (books, items, maybe movies) that might be worth picking up?
17 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoInterested in moving FROM America TO Australia?
Hey guys. I'm looking for a change of scenery, a job, and hopefully an escape from American crazyness. I've been interested in moving to Australia for a little while, but I honestly have no idea where to start.
I've poked around on the immigration website, but it's always been a little overwhelming :\ Are there any current/ex-Americans living in Australia or Australians that could offer some advice as to what steps to follow?
I'm a recent college grad with a BFA in Graphic Design. I'm assuming the only thing I could really shoot for is a work visa (although, like I said, I'm pretty clueless on the whole process). Can I apply for a work visa outright, or do I have to somehow find a job and get sponsored?
Any suggestions on where to go? I have contacts in Sydney (who may be able to direct me towards a job) and Adelaide, but don't really know the "lay of the land."
I would appreciate actual advice instead of random "GO FOR IT!!! :) :)" comments or people taking their best guess (seems to happen everytime I ask a question on here though :\ ... ). Thanks in advance -- if you need any clarification, let me know and I'll try to address it.
5 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoIs it possible to integrate an Rss feed into a Wiki?
For example: I start a blog about the Seven Continents, and I have a friend who has a blog (via blogger) that blogs about his trips around Africa. Would it be possible to integrate the RSS Feed from my friend's blog into the 'Africa' page of my Wiki?
(Disclaimer: I haven't really experimented with Wikis before, and I'm not a developer.)
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoIs there a way to automatically sort an
list?
I'm currently working on an xml document that has a list of items (
stuff stuff stuff
) The problem is (as an example), the list currently runs from item 48 to item 1, and I need to list to run from item 1 to item 48. At the moment I am manually moving each item into order. Is there any way to automate this process? It would be a huge help as this is only the first of about 50 documents I need to do like this.
If it helps - I am currently using Dreamweaver CS3.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoCan anyone help me find this book - Treasures of Major League Baseball?
I recently ran across this book when I visited a school. It seemed to be a coffee table/collector's book that outlined the history of the MLB. Inside it had reproductions of tickets, stadium plans, etc. I thought it would make a great gift for someone I know, so I wrote down the title 'Treasures of Major League Baseball'...or at least I thought that's what it was. I did an internet search and I can't find it anywhere! Is anyone familiar with this book; can you point me towards a place where I can get it?
2 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoHow can I go about including music in online church videos?
I'm currently doing some design work for a church that is looking into putting videos of some activities online. The videos are of church activities, but they would like to put clips of recent Christian music in as a soundtrack. I've been doing some research and the copyright stuff seems to get a bit fuzzy based on commercial/non-commercial stuff.
So - is this a possibility? I have found various "pod-safe" music sites online, but obviously the church would like to go with music containing Christian themes. Any suggestions?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoTokyo Disneyland + Sea - Easy for Americans?
I've been toying with the idea of going to Tokyo Disney Sea sometime. From the pictures/videos I've seen, it seems like a good amount of the Tokyo Disney Resort has English signage/language/etc.
Has anyone who natively speaks English had a chance to visit? What was your experience like? Also, what is the park like in general? Did you enjoy yourself?
3 AnswersAmusement Parks1 decade agoGreen Cooking - Any Suggestions, experience, or sources?
I'm currently working on a paper that must revolve around the concept of energy resources, utilization schemes, storage concepts, conservation schemes, and societal or environmental impact.
After researching just how much energy our microwaves, toasters, ovens, etc. use, I thought it would be interesting to look into what's being done to make cooking our food more environmentally friendly. I've come across some articles on TreeHugger (http://treehugger.com/) but does anyone have any other interesting articles, suggestions, or experience they'd be willing to share.
I'm interested in everything from food transport (using restaurant leftovers to power a vehicle that delivers waste for compost to growers, and picks up new food while at the farms) to alternative cooking methods (solar hot dog cooker made out of foil and an oatmeal canister).

I'm currently in the process of writing my thesis on this topic and I was wondering if anyone out there could point me towards any books, magazine articles, or websites/ web articles relating to the topic. Thanks guys!
4 AnswersOther - Visual Arts1 decade agoHenna, and temporary tattoos...anyone have any suggestions for me?
So, I want to give myself a henna tattoo. I found some henna ink at a local Indian store (it comes in a small gold "tube" that you squirt out of a cut-off end). So my first question -
Anyone know how to correctly use this stuff?
Secondly, I'm a bit scared to just freehand something, so I was thinking of getting some inkjet temporary tattoo paper, designing some stuff in Illustrator, putting it on my arm, and then tracing over it with henna. I'm a bit worried that the temporary tattoo ink won't let the henna through properly (so I'm considering trying some hairline outlines)...but I'm really not sure. Has anyone out there tried this same setup....or are there other ways of doing it that you might want to suggest?
