  • Can I take a system image from my computer of Windows 7 to my new computer that has Windows 8?

    So here's the "situation"

    1. I have a laptop right now that has Windows 7

    2. I recently purchased a new laptop that has Windows 8 (the new laptop is just an upgrade in terms of RAM, hard drive space, screen resolution, graphics card, and more usb ports/capabilities.

    3. Can I take the system image from my old laptop and put it on my new laptop, and if I do, will I be able to run Windows 7 from the system image from my old laptop onto my new one? Does this mean I can run Windows 7 on my new laptop and "erase" Windows 8? Is this a bad idea? I just want the new body, parts, memory, and general specs of the new laptop, but not the operating system....

Another critical factor is that I have the entire Microsoft Office on my old laptop which I was able to get from my old job, but I won't be able to access it again for re installation to my new laptop since I no longer have the disc.

Thank you to anyone that can help. I'm not the most tech-savvy person in the world. But I had done this before for my old laptop, so I cant see why I cant for the new one, I mean, it's just a new body, why can't I put the old system back???

  • self-tightening knots?

    self-tightening knots.?

I have two eye hooks on opposite sides of a wall. I want to basically run a clothesline-like installtion to hold two towels soaked in water for an art video/performance I am making. When i put the soaked towels on the clothesline, I want to be sure it holds the rigidity of itself as much as possible so it doesnt sag too much. With this being said, I am trying to tie a slip knot on the first eye hook, but it doesnt seem to tighten as much as I want it to. I'm using a pretty thin string, (maybe 1/16th of a inch thick, but its sort of essential to the look of it)...

anyone know of any other knots like the slip knot that are self-tightening?

  • I want to ask my friend out, but i am okay if it is not reciprocated. i just dont want to lose him as a friend?

i want to just tell my friend i've been having feelings for him lately. i think we are comfortable enough together that if i asked him; if he likes me, can we go out, and if the feeling isn't reciprocated--- we would still be friends, but i dont want him to feel the need to distance himself from me because he feels that he is hurting me or whatever.

i am not completely smitten or in love or anything---YET. but i would be really estatic if he did return the same feelings for me.

i want to somehow find a way to ask him just out of curiosity, and if it is not reciprocated it isnt the end of the world and he would understand that it wouldn;t be the end of my world either as long as we continue having the same really great relationship we already have.

basically, i want to tell him i like him, i've developed feelings for him. i want to see what it would be like to date, go out, etc. if he would be into that too.

(we haven't had many date-like situations (like dinner and movie) we usually have casual lunches, and walk around the city and talk after our classes are over (college students))

i also sense that he has developed more interest in me more than a friend lately. he's been walking me home after our get togethers, been very attentive, emailing me constantly, and certain topics in discussion have gotten a bit more intimate than the usual joking around about school and career.

i dont want to ruin anything with him thinking im sensitive if he feels like he'd be hurting me or something if he doesnt turn out to reciprocate my feelings. because i wont be offended and i wont be hurt. it's almost just a pipe dream. and if not, the cloud bubble will burst and i will move on. seriously. i am just very curious because i would be very happy if he did reciprocate my feelings.

  • fulbright scholarship for fine art students?

i'm an architecture student. however, i really want to obtain a fulbright to pursue my dream to further painting. how would i do this though? as i have not created a lot of works aside from drafting and modeling my architecture classes? does fulbright need a portfolio for those wishing to study in the works of painting? how does this work? how are you to write up your time line when painting is a very subjective process? it seems like there are a lot of rules and regulations and standards to applying. especially under the field of fine arts. i mean, how can one determine how their paintings can furhter culture in the area you are studying when you are really from somewhere else? it is only you furthering your own study in a new environment which others can observe and take from, not you yourself giving it directly to the surrounding area. you know what i mean?

    any clarifications would be great.

  • do viruses infect music files?

i just got a virus from the internet where i am constantly getting pop ups non stop and the computer spools for five minutes every time i try to open a new program and 15 minutes to actually boot up. i am planning on getting a portable hard drive soon to back up most of my digital photography and music library. however, i want to know if i were to move my digital photography and mp3 files onto my portable hard drive and reload all of it onto my new computer i plan on getting, will there be a possibility that the virus could latch onto those types of files and then infect my new computer?

    much thanks,

    sincerely,

  • what's better a zip drive or a removable/external hard drive?or neither?

what is a zip drive anyway?

is there even a difference between them? (external and removable hard drives)

i'm trying to decide. my computer almost has a breakdown since it's getting old and i need a new hard drive. so my friend told me that i start needing to search for some of back up. however, being computer inept...i didnt really know what that meant.

i'm looking for something that i can use to put most of my important stuff on (like my entire music library, my photos, and my written documents, etc).

and if you have any other recommendations outside of zip drive, external hard drive, and removable hard drive...please let me know.

i have seen removable hard drives around that are up to 250 GB is that enough space to hold what i'm talking about? i'm not even sure how much media and documents span over 1 GB.

    much thanks all

  • scorpio with sign compatibility/relationship questions?

hi, i'm a scorpio who is at the tail-end of the scorpio area, so i guess i could be mixed sagitarius scorpio. i'm born on the 21st of november

i was wondering how compatibility and relationships with other signs truly work for me. it is said that i am most compatible with taurus for relationships dating-wise.

but i only have one person i know who is one that i am "crushing" on and we share a small connection like small talk and bits of flirting but it hasn't gone anywhere. we've just been acquaintences for the past two years. i guess i'm too shy?

what other signs would be most compatible with me for a relationship?

  • i'm looking for a low maintenance haircut?

I'm looking for a new haircut to get. I want it to be from short to medium length and easy to take care of without any gels or styling materials needed. I want to be able to go through a quick comb or brushing of it and maybe a tad of hairspray or not even. i have really naturally straight hair and a mix between a rounded square face.

much thanks! (post pictures for reference if you can!)

  • why do some people write g-d and leave out the "o"?

i see a lot of people write it like that, but i never do. what is the point of doing that? is it out of some sort of courtesy or something?

i don't want to sound ignorant or anything, but i've been trying to find this out for a really long time.

  • long roll on marching snare?

i just picked up marching snare about a month ago and my long roll is awful. i can get it pretty exact and fast only half of the time. whenever i do hit it correctly though, its after about three tries of manipulating the pressure i put on the sticks against the head of the drum (is that even how you're supposed to do it?)

i also have a huge difficulty trying to relax, which is probably key in accomplishing a good long, tight, roll on the marching snare. i tend to be too controlling with both hands...and end up creating too much work for myself.

any kind of advice would be great.

and if you want to tell just me from scratch the steps to get a good, nice, tight, and effective long roll please tell me. straight out. and correct me if any of the stuff i mentioned above is the wrong approach! i really need to know if what i am doing is wrong!

    much thanks!

  • i want to flatten my ab area. is this the right way to do it?

i'm about 5 foot 4 or so and 120 lbs, which my doctor says is pretty average.

I took a really long break from playing in my tennis league for about two years, and now i'm paying for it. although my arms and legs are still conditioned well from tennis, i have gained excess fat in by abdominal area, but only in the front when i sit down. its not really a "jelly roll" but more of just "belly fat".

im not sure what do to, but this summer i was thinking about taking advantage of the local track and feild near me.

the track surrounds a football feild and i think 4 laps equal a mile.

let's say i ran about half a mile everyday for six weeks, consistenly, and added sprints in the run as well. in six weeks do you think i could lose the excess fat? flatten my abdominal area/belly area?

i also hear that taking cod liver oil supplements along with rigorous running/all over body excercise helps burn excess fat and lower high blood pressure. hence, i'd be "killing two birds with one stone"

  • crushing on a very sweet guy, but there's competition? (post 2)?

really sensitive guy i know and like, but I have come to realize i am not the only one who likes him. i've only gotten to know him for a year, and he's so sweet, well mannered, responsible, attractive, mature, and incredibly intelligent. however, there are several other girls who are trying to catch his eye, and are constantly flirting with him. another thing is, i am two years older and i dont really know much about any of the girls that hang out with him everyso often and flirt with him or what their intentions are (if the flirting is leading anywhere or if its just playful joking).

he's so sweet and deserves so much respect and care, i really want to be with him, but i also want to be his best friend first before asking for any kind of relationship(boyfriend girlfriend wise).

    very annoying situation.

also, lately i've been trying to hang out with him only on occasion, i dont want to seem too interested and always "in his space".
