How do you stop a nosebleed?
I don't mean the conventional leaning your head forward and pinching... That has never worked too well for me.
Have any of you ever tried something other than that which has worked?
Thanks!
2 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoWhy are people still harping about how Obama hasn't fixed the economy?
1) The has has been on a constant upwards slope recently.
2) The stimulus hasn't been in effect for very long
3) you might want to check out the last 5 or so years of Bush, especially October of last year.
4) Things take time. If you want to fix the economy in a day, you're out of luck. Just like you can't lose 100 pounds in a day (not including liposuction, but you can't liposuction the economy). The 150 story skyscraper of an economy we have is still at the bottom, maybe the 20th story. There's still 130 to go, and if you want it to survive, slow and steady wins the race.
9 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoHow should we deal with Chief Megalomaniac Mahmoud Ahmedinijad?
I have an interesting view on this horrible person.
No matter how horrible he is, America facilitating the destruction of their nukes is like Hitler facilitating the prompt end of the Genocide in Darfur. Point being; we are total hypocrites. It doesn't make much sense to say "Nukes are bad. Don't make them, or we'll be forced to Nuke you." Or perhaps telling Mahmoud, "I think you should stop making those nukes, because you're a horribly unstable person. I think we can agree on that."
It doesn't make sense to take that approach. It's that stuck up neoconservative ideology that is threatening the U.S. and our ally, Israel, among others.
Now, for a bit of history (I love WWII... Well, it was a horrible thing, but it has a fascinating history). One of the main reasons it happened was that Britain didn't resist to Germany's conquering of the Rhineland and Sudetenland. This is known as appeasement. Later, Hitler wrote that he would have backed down had there been resistance. However, there wasn't, and it ended in a horrible war.
Now, we are literally setting up Ahmedinijad to become the Fuhrer of Iran, if he isn't already.
We have really messed up the middle east, and turned it into a real hellhole. Israel is our only ally over there, because everyone else hated Israel and rather liked Iraq and Afghanistan. They were both blind wars based on neoconservative values. Iraq for rather obvious reasons. Now, with Afghanistan, I have to insert a hypothetical anecdote or two to make my point clear.
Imagine your (your name is Amy Erica "Izzy" Britton) best friend, Sandy Amelia, someone you have been indoctrinated by your father to hate, Eric (his parents are greedy arses and he is nothing but a troublemaker), and the girl who you've always thought was up to something, but you didn't know what, or against who, Ava Ganniston. Lately, Sandy Amelia has been hanging out with Eric and Ava, and you are a little worried about her, but she is your best friend, so you still trust her. One day, you and Sandy get in a fight. You make up the next day, but you do notice that Eric and Ava have been leaving with her a lot lately. You also notice that the "axis of 3" has gained a mew member, someone you've always hated, that really creepy girl named Erin. One day, you go skiing with Sandy, and to your dismay, Ava came with her, as they have become nearly inseparable. You notice Ava whisper something to Sandy. Sandy was really nice and bought you a double cheeseburger with fries, and she said she'd go get your skis. She comes back with the cheeseburger and the skis. You eat the cheeseburger, and put on the skis. Then you go out onto the mountain. You have a ton of fun for a while, until you lose a ski, and twist your ankle. After inspecting, you find that the back broke off. You can still ski on it okay, but you decide that you'd rather replace it, thinking it was a freak accident. On the way back to the lodge, the other ski shatters, you go out of control, hitting a tree and being confined to a wheelchair for a couple months. You KNOW it was somehow Ava's fault, so you try to do whatever you can to remove Ava from your life. A little while later, Sandy buys you a triple cheeseburger and tells you that really, she was the perpetrator in the ski accident, although Ava helped. You are a bit miffed, but you make up. A little while later, you see Eric flirting with Ava, so you decide that you should try to remove him from your life as well. Erin decides to stock up on rat poison, which you have a bunch of, that you usually use for rats, but twice, a really long time ago, you used against someone you didn't like, Jason. You do, however, threaten to use it against people you are miffed at. Erin threatened to use it against you. To be continued...
Afghanistan (Ava Ganniston) never did anything, but helped Saudi Arabia (Sandy Amelia) attack America on 9/11 (Ski accident). Later, Bin Laden admitted it, but we still went after Afghanistan, because we didn't want to give up all of our oil (friendship and cheeseburgers). We later preemptively attack Iraq (Eric), for no real reason. Now, we have Mr. Iran (Erin), and we have to see.
With that ammo, what should we do to keep America and our allies safe? We can't appease, and if we attack, so do they.
Your turn!
P.S. Don't cower in fear and treat him as if he's Chuck Norris (No Mahmoud Ahmedinijad jokes). That's what he wants. He wants all that power. Hence the Chief Megalomaniac thing...

2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoWhich browser is the best?
I have all the major ones: Explorer, Firefox (except it doesn't open), Safari, Opera, and Chrome (do they still make Netscape?).
I have found chrome to be the general best, but I like Opera too. Which is your favorite and why?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoIs Larry King engaged to Dolly Parton?
When she was on his show, he chuckled once and smiled twice. That is the first time he has shown any emotion in approximately 962 years. It is possible that Dolly Parton could be Larry King's 47th wife?
3 AnswersCelebrities1 decade agoWhy do some Americans say that Barack Obama isn't their president?
Like him or not, if you are an American citizen, he is your president.
I never said that George Bush wasn't my president until January 20, 2009.
9 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhy are people so afraid of a terrorist attack on America?
In the year 2000, you had 0 chance of dying from a terrorist attack. Same with the years 2002-present. Even in the horrible year of 2001, you had a 1 in 100,000 chance of dying from a terrorist attack. Compare that to approximately a 1 in 10,000 chance of dying from suicide. So, in a sense, you are more of a danger to yourself than terrorists. We had one attack. That doesn't mean we're all going to die from a terrorist attack.
If you read the book that came from, I highly respect you. If you didn't, you probably don't want to know...
17 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoAm I sensing an irony here?
So, so many people (including myself, in part), voted for Obama because he was better for the War in Iraq than John McCain...
so isn't it a bit ironic that the most outspoken proponent in congress for Obama's plan for Iraq is...
John McCain!
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/27/iraq.dems/i...
I would have to be in between on this issue... It wouldn't work to just pull out everyone, as we did in Vietnam, but I think 50000 soldiers is a bit excessive.
Please don't answer if you are just going to say that Barack Obama is a lying idiot that would do anything to get elected. Surely, the Y!A community is better than that.
I'm looking for answers that either support or disagree with my point, and an explanation.
Thanks!
12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhen do they plan on electing that senator from Minnesota?
Holy Jeez!
They've been counting since november.
It takes at most a week to finish that court case where they decide whether or not to count more. It takes at most 3 days to count those ballots.
It's real simple. Once they're counted, whoever has more votes wins.
It's not fair that MN is only represented by one person now, and that needs to change.
I've always liked Al Franken, but I just want it to be over now. Anyone agree?
7 AnswersElections1 decade agoWhich senators do you admire most?
Mark Begich-He's way too conservative for me, but he beat Ted Stevens so he makes my list
Ron Wyden-Fits my views, works to please
Kay Bailey Hutchison-Fairly conservative, but not afraid to swing on some issues
Ted Kennedy-A truly amazing man
Olympia Snowe-Truly a moderate. I greatly admire moderates and I wish I was one.
Explanations are important
3 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoWhich governors do you admire most?
Arnold Schwarzenegger-Willing to cross party lines in order to be good for the the greater good
Janet Napolitano-Fine, she's not a governor anymore, but she had to be on the list anyway
Pat Quinn-Called for resignation of Burris, did not speak to Blagojevich for over a year, although they are ideologically similar
Well; I admit I'm not terribly well versed in governors, but anyway, those are my big three
Name as many or few as you want, and remember, you are not getting the best answer if you don't explain
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoBobby Jindal's "rebuttal" speech... Yea or nay?
I thought it was poorly thought out, unstructured, and parts irrelevant...
Granted... He did follow undeniably one of, if not THE greatest orator in the world... but still...
Also, I was fairly offended when he said that they shouldn't fund volcano research... I live within 100 miles of Mount St. Helens, and she's been in a constant eruptive state since 2005, so if she has an eruption close to the side of the one in 1980, and no research is done to be able to warn us about it, I'm in trouble...
So, in a format somewhat similar to mine, what did you think about his speech...
3 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhy do people smoke cigarettes?
1) I don't get how it makes you look "cool."
2) I get that it relieves temporary stress, but I'd be pretty stressed to find out that I'm likely to get lung cancer or emphysema or black lung or any of a myriad of other diseases.
3) It is considered a major "turnoff" by many people. Not smoking is hardly ever considered a "turnoff."
4) They are significantly affecting their own lifespan, as well as anyone who lives with them.
So... Why do people smoke?
13 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoWhy do people say that Nancy Pelosi is way too liberal?
First of all, I can say I'm much more liberal than any of your elected officials. Including Dennis Kucinich.
Unfortunately, WE DON'T KNOW how liberal Nancy Pelosi may or may not be bacause she is such a wuss. IF SHE HAD OPINIONS, maybe they wouldn't CHANGE so much.
How can people say she's too liberal?

1 AnswerPolitics1 decade agoWho "actually" led the country?
Was it George Bush who executed the decisions?
Or Dick Cheney, who made the decisions?
Or Hu Jintao, who loaned us our oil money?
Or "Bandar Bush," who was a good friend of both the Bush family and the Bin Laden family?
Or Karl Rove, whe sat ominously in the back and went to secret "meetings" with the president and VP?
Or was it Sarah Palin--Wait... nobody had heard of her back then...
Could it have been Oil execs, who we handed money so they can raise prices?
Could it have been other execs, who we handed money for them to waste?
Who was it?
You choose...

12 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoDoes anyone on here understand that things aren't always instantaneous?
People are asking why the stimulus isn't working, or why the economy hasn't gotten any better, etc.
Come on, people, get real!
Barack Obama has been president for less than a month. I hate to break it to you, but he's not the messiah. A great and devoted American, yes. A president who cares about what's best for the country, yes. But a miracle worker, no. Nobody can fix a recession in a month. We'll see how he does in 4 years, then you can believe what you want, but for now, give him a chance. Open your mind. And be patient. It's hard. You might be affected by the recession. But give him time, and good things might just happen. Does anyone agree?
