  • Keyboard Warrior, serious question.?

When I discovered that the guy who'd been teaching me was a fake, I pretty much struck that experience from the record as 'Teaching me what to look out for', and not a qualification for anything in particular. With that in mind- you've said before, multiple times in fact, that you view your experience in Karate as a complete waste of time and energy that taught you nothing. But at the same time, every time I see you put your qualifications down, you include '10 years karate experience'.

Why is that? I mean, I'm pretty sure I've even seen you put it down when you answered one question with 'Karate is a fradulent art', which sends a pretty mixed message.

Probably a waste of five points, but I've got them to spare and am curious. Also, bored.

  • Hey, going back into college for a Business Degree...?

My current plan is to get a BBA, starting with an associates 'To BBA' course at my local community college. The associates is [according to my counselor] honored by all Texas State Universities, so transferring once I'm done with it shouldn't be an issue.

What I'm wondering is mostly, what sort of job is available with a BBA? Would it be easier to join an existing company or to make my own small business with this degree? And what sort of salary should I expect to pull in from this?

I'm currently planning to finish my business program through UHD, if that's relevant at all.

  • Any Wing Chun guys have an opinion on this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLCMm7EWmCA

I was bored and surfing youtube, so I decided to check it out. For me, as an outsider, it was an interesting look both into how styles change and adapt over generations and how in-style politics might affect that gradual evolution.

Can anyone with experience in Wing Chun expound on what he's talking about, or give their opinions on the issue?

  • Anyone familiar with this style?

    http://www.joerlansdale.com/shenchuan/shen/Shen.ht...

Found this site while looking for information on MA schools near where I'm at.

Some research turns up that the owner/founder of 'Shen Chuan' is an author by trade, but the wikipedia article also mentions that he's a 'Martial Arts Expert' and is a member of the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame as well as teh International Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Basically, I'm curious as to whether his credentials are legitimate, as well as the style he's synthesized- in addition to whether the US/International Martial Arts Halls of Fame legitimate organizations?

  • Does a personal trainer require certification?

I am aware that there are degrees for personal trainers, but from what I've seen they are treated as good but not necessary for starting out. I was wondering whether a personal trainer 7s actually required to be certified in order to work in the field.

  • Studying martial arts in China?

I've heard a couple mentions of 'If you want to learn genuine Kung Fu, you almost have to go to China' here and there. Now, I'd always assumed that this was a joking metaphor, but I've recently found out that there are people who actually do go to China in order to learn martial arts.

Now, a quick look gives such responses as this article-

    http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?ar...

Which seems to suggest that even if you go to china, and [presumably] pay out the nose for lessons, room and board [In addition to the plane ticket], you're not guaranteed a good education from whatever school you choose.

So, with that background, here's my question- Has anyone here traveled to China in order to learn martial arts?

If so, what school did they go to, how much did it cost, and would they suggest going there to anyone looking to learn traditional martial arts?

If not, what do they think of the idea of just dropping everything for months or even years, and going off to learn Kung Fu?

... As I've lurked a fair bit on here, I have the sinking suspicion that this is going to devolve into a shitstorm quickly, but curiosity demands I ask.
