  • Mandated reporting from hospitals/urgent care?

If a person goes to the emergency room or urgent care to determine if they have a broken wrist, and if they also have several bruises on their arms, what will happen at the emergency room/urgent care? Will they be asked how it happened? If it was a domestic violence situation, will it automatically be reported whether they want to report it right then or not? This is in NC if it makes any difference where the laws are concerned.

  • Can the previous homeowners legally withhold house keys until the day AFTER the loan closing?

My dear friend is purchasing her first home and the loan closing is on Monday. She talked to her real estate agent and apparently the current (soon-to-be-former) owners are saying they're not handing over the house keys or signing over the deed until Tuesday. Is that even legal? Once the papers are signed, the house is hers and they have to hand over the keys, right? It just sounds odd. I recall getting the house keys AT the loan closing when my husband and I bought our home, however we were buying it from a builder not someone living there so I don't know if that makes any difference or not. This is in NC if that makes any difference.
