  • I received a pink summons in New York City - Do I have to go to court?

My friend and I received a public urination ticket yesterday in NYC. Do I have to appear in court? And do I have to dress formally and bring proper identification? (My friend is a tourist and is not an American citizen - will this be an issue? )

I just want to show up to the court and pay a fine - in like 5 minutes - not have to go through anything. I hope it works like this.

  • What kind of Fender Strat pickups do you recommend?

I've saved a bit of cash and I'm planning on redoing the electrics in my Squier strat. The neck is in good shape, which is good enough reason for me to switch the pickups (no sense in letting the thing go to waste).

I'm kind of jumping between the Fender Fat 50's and the Fender Texas Style. I'm looking for a smoother bluesy sound. (My main baby is a Fender Tele - which is obviously a bit twangier - I want this Strat to sound signicantly different)

Any recommendations? (Trying to keep it single coil throughout also)

  • What hotel should I stay at by Boston University?

I just got tix to the Dropkick Murphys show on Saint Patty's Day! The show is at the Paradise club by Boston University.

I'm from New York, and have been to Boston a few times before, but i was wonderin if anyone knows any dirt cheap hotel/motels there are right by the club (by Boston University). Any recommendations? I'm staying only for one night.

  • Who else finds it funny that the Islanders and Devils will soon be playing on a network called MSG-Plus?

As a Ranger fan, I think the situation is funny. Granted, Fox Sports Net NY was always ran by Cablevision/ Madison Square Garden, but now two of the Rangers biggest rivals will basically be playing on "Madison Square Garden's Other Network"

Here's an article about it --

Also, another side note in the article, Hockey ratings here in New York are up all around. The Rangers are actually getting higher ratings then the Knicks. I know the Knicks suck this season, but it's rare to see hockey getting higher ratings then basketball.

  • Question about Ruby on Rails--?

Since Ruby on Rails is open sourced, if I build a website based off of it's framework, I don't owe 37 signals or Ruby on Rails anything legally?

So for example, if Twitter got bought up by Yahoo or some company tomorrow, does Twitter legally own any money to 37 signals? Also, if I build a site off of RoR, do I have any sort of legal obligation to 37 signals?

(for the record, 37 Signals is the company that built up the Web App Framework known at Ruby on Rails. Also, I'm a kid, and don't know too much about programming, but I'm interested in building a web site with a friend and was recommended RoR. Apologies if it's a stupid question)

  • Are you going to buy a Winter Classic jersey?

I just wanted to share the photos taken during the Sabres and Pens practice at Ralph Wilson stadium.

    Check 'em out guys...

The photos have gotten me excited for tomorrow's game. I'm even thinking about buying a Crosby jersey with this retro look. Anyone else thinking of purchasing a retro Winter Classic jersey?

  • What do you guys recommend to begin a career in hockey (preferably the NHL)?

Do you guys have any recommendations on getting a job in the NHL? I'm applying for the New York Rangers internship, but it is unpaid, so I can't commit to the 40 hour internship they offer.

Any ideas? Any internships I should be going for? Any training I should go for?

(Background info - I'm currently a student in New York, majoring in Business and minoring in Economics. I'm a junior, and feel it's too late to switch my major.)

  • What do you think of a possible 84 game NHL schedule for next season?

Critics of the NHL divisional style schedule have been complaining since it was implemented. I've read about it quite a lot in the past couple of years... about the NHL expanding to an 84 game schedule in order to have 6 games against division opponents, 3 games against conference opponents, and a home and home in intra-conference games.

Part of me thinks its a good idea as long as they remove a pre-season game or two, but I think the players may be against 2 extra games.

Also, in the 1993-94 season, didn't the NHL have an 84 game schedule? How come none of these main stream writers and critics of the idea are mentioning this?

ESPN.com just put up an article pushing for this 84 game schedule also.

  • Should I include all of my jobs on my resume?

I am currently a Business student (junior) in New York City and want to begin applying for winter internships, and I decided to make a resume. The problem is though, I have not really worked in a job relating to the major I have.

I currently work at Applebee's and I've worked as a line cook, waiter or counter person in places serving food my whole life.

So, should I include all these places I have worked even though I am going for an office job? How many should I include? (I've worked through 5)

Or should I just include my educational experience and the few events I volunteered for? I know, it seems ridiculous, but I feel like I'm going to send out resumes without any employment relating to the field.

  • Why aren't the New York Islanders considering a move to the new Brooklyn arena?

The Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn is set to open in 2009 with the NBA's New Jersey Nets moving in (although still not a guarantee, as construction has not yet began).

I'm a New York Ranger fan, and live here in the city, but I find it curious that their isn't really any discussion on the Islanders moving there. Nassau Colliseum really is falling apart and a miserable arena to go to, and there was talk in the past of the Isles refurbishing the arena, but seems like that may never happen.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barclays_Center

And since the new arena is right by an LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) train stop many Long Island fans will still be able to get to game.

I feel that having a team in Newark, Manhattan and Brooklyn can only help the league out in creating a buzz in the city over the rivalries. Any thoughts?

  • Should I learn how to build a website myself or hire a company?

I am currently a student (not in Computer Science though) and have an idea of a website I want to build. I have a basic understanding of HTML and some CSS, but the site I want to build is a community driven website and sort of complex.

I am intimidated by the more complexities of the site (such as my lack of knowledge in MySQL/databases).

I have downloaded and tinkered with a variety of content management systems to help build the site (all freeware - including Drupal and Joomla), but I am still having some troubles.

So basically I am asking - Should I invest the time to learn the languages and figure out the content management systems OR should I just invest the small amount of money I have into a design firm to build the site?

Oh, and if I choose to build the site, which content management system do you recommend for an amateur like myself?

(The idea of the site is similar to digg, reddit and del.icio.us, but probably most similar to this very site- Yahoo! Answers)
