  • I Hate The Name, But Feel Badly?

A few weeks ago my husband and I found out the child we are expecting is a son. We are still tossing up first name ideas, but he is really set on using his grandfather's name as a middle name- it just happens to be a name I detest. In my mind, it's the kind of name you'd get your butt kicked for, and it doesn't even sound like a real name. I don't know how to tell him I hate it, since it was his grandfather's. Any ideas on how to approach it?

  • Bringing Home Baby- What do you need?

Currently I am 19 weeks pregnant and looking for what I actually am going to need when I bring the baby home. I realize you receive many misc items at showers and such that are nice, but not really essential. What are the things you found you actually NEEDED when you brought baby home? What did you think you would need that you really didn't? Thank you.

  • How much do you generally tip?

How much do you usually tip in a normal, sit down restaurant?

How much do you tip in a place like a Chinese buffet, where you serve yourself?

I generally tip 15% for sit down, unless the service is particularly good or terrible, in which I will tip more or less accordingly.

For buffets the wisdom I was left with is $1 per diner.

    Please share your thoughts.

  • Quad Screen Test Question?

I was wondering if anyone else has had the quad screen and had it come up abnormal and had nothing be wrong. Recently I had this done and the dr just called and recommended additional testing, saying there was a 1 in 220 chance of Downs... I am NOT looking for any medical advice, just wondering as to the experience of others with this test... thanks.

  • Needed: Recipe Using These Ingrediants?

    Frozen Meatballs

    Worcestershire Sauce

Was hoping to use the crock pot, but if there's something good that uses another method, I'll take it. Please no links to random websites. I'd like something that you've tried and enjoyed before. Thanks!

  • How do you stop feeling guilty?

So, after quite a long time of trying, my husband and I have discovered we are having our first child!

Of course, this being my first, I am worried and preoccupied with doing everything right- including eating - which is the problem.

I don't eat completely unhealthy and have been trying my best to make good choices, however, occasionally I will have a slice of pizza or chocolate bar, or put dressing on a salad. The issue stems not only from other people pulling the "If you touch that chocolate your child will have XYZ birth defect." but also from myself.

So the question to all those who have been through this - how did you stop the guilt and start enjoying it?

  • Eliminate 3 Names [RD 2]?

Eliminated Round One: Katya [highest number of votes- surprised me honestly] and from here we had a 4 way tie, so I voted between the ones being eliminated. Koren and Katiana left as well. :)

    Ember Rose

    Jade Elyse

    Aira

    Isabelle

    Penelope Gwen

    Maylynn Eve

    Aimee Rose

    Maria Antonia

    Maria Christina

    Tatiana

    Liana Jane

    Liana Elizabeth

    Madelyn Paige

    Leia

I thought it would be interesting to add - Maria Antonia was the name of Marie Antoinette before she entered into the French court, :)

Also, I am not picky on spellings. If you prefer a name spelled a different way, it's fine.

  • What is something you make time to do, just for yourself?

Some parents make time for book clubs or yoga, but what is a daily/weekly routine you do just to make yourself happy?

  • Would you use a name you liked even if it was overused?

For example, I personally love the name Isabel. However, due to its recent popularity, I will think twice about using it, simply because I would not want my daughter to be the fifth Isabel in her class. Do you think something is taken out of the name when it is used so often? And would you use a name you loved even if it was extremely common?

  • Speaking in another language- rude?

I've met people [class, work, etc] who will speak in Spanish [or any foreign language for that matter] in public ABOUT people and think they don't understand it. I really think it's quite rude. Many times, they don't realize that I can understand them as well, and a few times I've caught them talking about me.

Where my mother works as a nurse, people pretend not to understand English so they don't have to do work. If you say anything, it's "racism."

What's your opinion on people who know English and refuse to use it, or use it to talk about someone right in front of them? Do you think this is rude? I've heard arguments from both sides.

  • Have you ever wished for something and then wished it hadn't come true?

I remember one year in high school, after being upset at not getting the solo, I said to myself, "Well, then I won't sing at all." Lo and behold, a day or so before I started losing my voice, and at the concert, I could hardly talk.

Anyone else had something like this?
