  • My dog lost a patch of fur on her side. Ideas?

She's a four year old poodle with allergies galore. About a week ago, I noticed a spot on her side, about the size of two quarters side-by-side with no visible sores. On Saturday, I noticed what appeared to be very small sores that were gone yesterday. I called her vet this morning but as I am tight on funds, I am going to wait and see what happens. If it gets worse, the baldness expands or any sores develop, I will take her in.

Have you seen this in a dog? I know ringworm is one of the first things thought of. What else might cause it? My other dog has shown no such symptoms and this spot on her side does not appear to be itchy or uncomfortable at all.

Again, I will take her in if I notice any worsening of this, so please don't offer that as your answer. I'm looking for theories as to what might cause it and if there's any safe, at-home treatments I can provide for her. In four years of dealing with allergies, she has never displayed a symptom like this, so I do not know if it is related or not.
