  • Why is my transparent background still showing when I place the item in Photoshop/InDesign?

I have a logo that I made in photoshop that has a traced image on a transparent background. I want to transfer this to a new background either in photoshop or indesign. When I place the file, the background is semitransparent, but I can still see a faint box around the image, and the content between the shape and edge is slightly darker than the background. How can I make it so that this box disappears and the background of the image is truly transparent?

  • Is this tattoo shading technique plausible?

I'd like to get some lilies on my back for my daughter, Lily. Yes, I know it's a fairly obvious choice but it's my favorite flower and it works.

I'm a big fan of black/gray tattoos but would like to infuse some color in the design. What I'd like is a realistic looking 'sketch' kind of design. Say, for example, I took some colored pencils and lightly colored the flowers and then went over that with a standard graphite pencil, leaving an image that at first glance looks gray-scale but with light hints of color peeking through. I'd want it to be seamless/faded.

Is this kind of shading possible in a tattoo? If so, does the technique have a name? I'm shopping around for tattoo artists and would like to be a specific as possible.

  • How do my ex and I file to terminate his parental rights?

I'm in the State of Ohio. My ex and I mutually agree that it is in my daughter's best interest that he terminate his parental rights so that my partner and adopt her. He has not been a part of her life since she was a couple months old, and has never provided any kind of support. My partner and I are not yet married, and it is my understanding that the State would strongly prefer this before they allow my partner to adopt her.

In addition, my ex is in the military and did not tell them that he had any children when he signed on. He is concerned that this information getting to them now would result in disciplinary action, possibly including a dishonorable discharge. I'd like to avoid hurting his career.

My questions are - how do I file this kind of petition? Is the military likely to come across that information and penalize my ex? Do I need an attorney for this and/or the adoption?

Thank you very much in advance for your help and advice.

  • Why is there an iridescent sheen on top of my fish tank?

I'm a new fish owner so I apologize if I'm asking an obvious question. I have a three gallon fish tank (I bought a kit with one light and a...erm...water spinner thingy) and a male beta. I set up the tank a few days before I bought the fish and there was never any residue build up during that time. A few days after I added the beta, this filmy iridescent residue has started to form on the top of the tank.

Is this normal? If not, what do I need to do to remedy the issue? The fish is my daughter's present for potty training so it's really important that I keep him alive. I picked fish because I figured a pet they give away at carnivals can't be too challenging, but I'm afraid I underestimated the required care. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
