What is the percentage of people with this injury that end up having surgery?
I have a tear in the cartilage and meniscus of my knee and the orthopedist said that it will heal on its own. Something tells me due to a popping noise in my knee the other morning followed by severe pain, it tore further and may need surgery. My question is what is the percentage of people who suffer from this injury end up having surgery anyway?
2 AnswersInjuries1 decade agoBlunt force knee injury two weeks ago... any ideas?
I injured my knee 2wks ago by it jamming into a stretcher on an ambulance. I went to the doctor and they did xrays and said there was nothing broken, but due to my severe pain they sent me to the orthopedist. He said he was not sure whats wrong until an MRI was done but wanted me to wait a few weeks in case it is a severe bruise to the bone. There is no visible bruising, but the pain is getting to be unbarable even with a steady regimen of 800mg ibuprofen and 5/500mg of vicodin (hydrocodone) along with elevation propping and ice application. I have also wrapped it in a knee brace to try and help it but seems to make it worse. Also my knee caps are off set from a normal persons- mine are positioned higher and off to the outside part of my knee, so it leaves the joint vulnerable to blunt force trauma. I have not had any previous injuries to it at all. Any ideas on possible injuries that may have occured to it?
Additional Details
