  • Did Nehru make a mistake by dividing states based on languages?

Shouldn't he have divided states based on geographical factors and natural resources such that each state had its fair share of natural resources and arid lands.Due to his division based on languages there is an imbalance. Some states have large areas of arid lands while others have larger share of fertile plains with rivers.

Languages could always have been preserved by allocating more funds to set up university departments for Indian languages.

  • Why e-adhar card is not accepted as id proof in trains and airports?

I had applied for the Adhar card about 6 months ago. I received my e-Adhar card pdf file about a month back. When I try to show it as proof of identity while travelling in trains or while entering airports,it is not accepted. The ticket checker was dismissive about the e adhar card while the security at the airport too did not accept it. I had to show my election card which is a hard copy.

For what purpose is the e adhar card issued if it is not accepted as id proof?

  • Are general(upper)caste Indians being treated like second class citizens?

There is a lot of talk about India's caste system but very few mention the fact that the government has practiced reverse discrimination since 1947.

The supposedly upper castes are sidelined from various scholarship and poverty alleviation schemes. Now over 50% of the seats in education and government jobs are reserved for the supposedly backward castes meaning a general caste person can only compete for 50% of the available seats.

This reverse discrimination started in Tamil nadu and is now being practiced all over India. Whatever atrocities done to the lower castes was before independence. Why are our politicians so keen to continue this caste divide?

  • Should South chennai be developed like Navi Mumbai and NCR?

Prior to the year 2000 areas like Thiruvanmiyur and velacherry were seen as suburbs. But now areas more than 20 kms south of chennai such as Kelambakam are developing both commercially as well as residentially.

Chennai's geographical area is getting very large. Wouldn't it be better if areas South of Adyar, Guindy and Thiruvanmiyur were developed as a twin city which would gradually be merged with suburbs like Tamabaram and Medavakam. I am surprised that areas like Tamabram are still not within corporation limits. A twin city with a separate administration and railway station would be much better in decongesting the city.

  • Is the Indian Congress responsible for all our national problems?

Nehru tricked Pakistan in the Kashmir negotiations leading to terrorism.

In 1954 when India was still a new country he behaved arrogantly with the Chinese during negotiations leading to the 1962 war. Now China is on it's way to becoming a military

superpower and they still favour Pakistan over us.

In the 1980's they committed atrocities on the Sikh community. Not to mention their numerous scams like Bofors,2g,commonwealth games,Coal etc.

I am not a blind hater but come to think of it most of the problems our country faces is because of the Congress. We are forced to spend a lot on weapons which doesn't enable to us to reduce poverty and build public amenities.

  • Why South Indians are wrongly stereotyped as short people?

by a FEW North Indian supremacists from Punjab and Haryana who claim to be very tall.

List of currently active and retired(post 2000) SI cricketers.

    TAMIL NADU:

    Ashwin(6.2"), Balaji(6."1), Murali Karthik(6.") and Vijay (6.").

    http://www.espncricinfo.com/sri-lanka-v-india-2010...

Above pic shows Vijay with 6."2 Yuvraj.

    Karnataka:

    Srinath(6."3), Kumble(6."1), Mithun(6."2)

    Andhra Pradesh:

    VVS Laxman(6."1),Azharudin(6."1)

    http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/image/49025...

The above pic shows Azhar with 6."2 Wasim.

On the other hand the Punjabi and Haryanvi cricketers like Sehwag(5."7), Gambhir(5."5),Chawla(5."5) and Raina(5."7) are short even by Indian standards. Sure there are tall cricketers like Yuvi and Ishant but an average Indian man is only about 5."8. Why can't people accept the fact that both SI's and NI's are around 5.8".

  • Does an average Rwandan look like President Kagame? Are Rwandans related to Indians?

His dark brown skin Color, narrow nose and facial structure look very much Indian to me. Along with his good height and lean frame he would be considered a good looking person in India for his age.His features are much sharper than Obama who is partly White. Is he an exception, if not are Rwandans similar to Indians?

  • Why North east Indians are friendly with outsiders but are treated badly in metros?

I am a South Indian who often got mistaken for a Bengali while I went on a trip to Shillong. The locals were very friendly and warm. Me and my family were able to manage in English itself since most shopkeepers and taxi drivers knew English, though we also speak Hindi pretty well..

I have stayed in Delhi and Mumbai and most North Indians say horrible things about North easterners. The Delihites and Mumbai people I know speak in a derogatory manner about them..

Why do these people have a prejudice against them?

  • Should SUV's be banned in India?

I think SUV's should be allowed for taxi purposes only.

Here's why I think they should be banned..

    1. Big gas guzzling SUV's like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour are the preferred choice of businessman. One can get a much more efficient sedan for that price..

2.Most SUV's in India have very poor low end performance and slow down city traffic in Chennai's colony roads.

    3. While the rich get subsidized diesel, the middle class people and youngsters have to pay Rs 20 more to fill petrol for their motorcycles and scooters. Even upper middle class Indians can't offered to keep two sedans. So a two wheeler is necessary.

    4. Most rich people buy SUV's just for a big vehicle image. It is very uneconomical if only one or two persons travel in an SUV most of the time..

  • Are Somali people related to Indians?

I have seen many images of Somali people on TV and noticed that they look very similar to Indians apart from the curly hair. They have the same dark brown skin color and features. Also their facial structure, nose and lips are very similar to majority of Indians. In fact I have noticed that Somalis have sharper noses than an average Indian.

Are Somalis distinct from other Africans? The facial structure, nose and lips are more similar to Indians rather than the people from other African countries as well as Afro Caribbeans.

  • Why are animals killed by unlicensed people in Goa and Kerala?

I had a wonderful trip with my extended family to Goa. One evening while I was going on a scooter near the resort I stayed in at South Goa, I heard a terrifying squealing noise and upon closer inspection I saw two people savagely stabbing a pig to death in an open field near the road. Not only this but I also saw people taking tied up Pigs in their scooters.

In Kerala too U can see disturbing images of butchered cows being put up in the open on the outskirts of Trivandrum..

Shouldn't people be more sensitive to vegetarian people and stop these unlicensed butchers. Eating meat is a personal choice which should be respected but displaying it in the open is offending to vegetarian Hindus..

  • How popular are Nokia phones in western and northern Europe?

Nokia phones are still the most popular phones in India especially in the mid range and low range segments but people prefer Samsung, HTC,LG and Blackberry in the top end market since Nokia doesn't have Android OS.

I have always been a mid range customer and the OS doesn't matter to me as long as the hardware is good. I presently own a X3-02 and my old 5310 lasted for three years..

My cousin from the US told me that Nokia isn't popular over there. How are Nokia phones doing doing in Europe now esp. in northern Europe.

I get horizontal breaking lines when playing videos in VLC. However these videos play well on Gom and WMP.

I bought an Asus N53jg laptop about a month back. I am running W7 home premium but using a home basic theme. I have been using VLC on my old desktop which has windows XP with no issues at all, but on my new laptop nothing other than Gom or WMP works properly.

I would like to use Vlc again. Any methods to rectify this problem?

  • Suggest appropriate size for Asics shoes?

I have broad feet and I usually wear US-10 shoes. Although the length is a bit excessive, the breadth is ideal. The US-9 is just too narrow for me. I have heard that Asic shoes offer width lengths too and also US 9.5 size. Half sizes aren't available in my country..

The exact LENGTH of my feet are 25.4 cms and width is 11 cms.

What should be the ideal foot size for me including the TOE GAP. I would like to purchase this shoe (link below) ).A friend of mine in US will be getting it for me..
