How can Conservatives Support E-verify and not be called Hypocrites?
Conservatives are self-proclaimed champions of freedom and limited government, yet a great many support E-verify, a massive new government program, arguably larger than Obamacare, and turn an individual's right to work into a privilege we must request permission for.
How can conservatives support such a disastrous system and not be called hypocrites?
4 AnswersPolitics8 years agoFix disabled DirectX features?
I'm running windows7 home premium. I just upgraded my nvidia geforce 8800gts (dx 10) to a radeon hd 7950 (dx11). I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from both AMD and Saphire (the manufacturer of the card) and DirectDraw, Direct3d or AGP Texture accelerations are all listed in Dxdiag as "Not available". This is preventing me from playing any games. Anyone have any idea how I might be able to fix this?
2 AnswersOther - Hardware8 years agoWhat's the real deal w/ Obama's eligibility?
This isn't a question about whether or not he was born in Hawaii or Kenya or wherever. McCain was born in Panama, yet Congress certified him eligible to hold the office of POTUS because he was the birth child of 2 US citizens. This is a question about whether or not he's a *natural* born citizen.
The term “native” relates to the geographic location of birth. But the term “natural” relates to the “laws of natural,” ergo family lineage or the bloodline of the father.
Since we know BO's father was not a US citizen at the time of BO's birth (see http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_barack_... does that finally put to rest the question about his eligibility?
If not, why not?
7 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs the US Corporate Tax just another tax on Americans?
The US Corporate income tax is the 2nd highest in the world. Since businesses consider the tax a cost of doing business, they simply build that into what they charge for their product or service. Also, since they have to pay the tax, they are incentivized to set up business where taxes are low.
So in the end, is the Corporate tax just another stealth tax on all Americans that also starves this country of jobs? What would the consequences be if we were to eliminate the corporate income tax, both politically and economically?
11 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoHow will the Gov get us out of this Social Security mess?
For the first time in 25 years, the trust fund that all our social security taxes are pooled into will not have enough income to cover all the expenditures.
What is the government's excuse this time, and how do you see them handling this? Raising taxes? Reducing benefits? Abolishing the entire system?
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoPercentage Change in Excel (with a twist)?
We tabulate sales data on a monthly basis by year (Columns for years and Rows for months.)
I know how to figure out % change. What I can't figure out is 1 requirement my bosses have - When calculating the change using current year's data, only include data from last year up to the same point.
I.E. because we've only completed through October of this year, they'd only want the % change to include through October of last year, otherwise the % change is wildly off as we'd be including months that have 0 as a value.
Thanks!
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoWhere's the Transparency?
Mr. President pledged to the American people that his presidency would usher in a whole new world of transparency and accountability. If that's the case, why did Democrats in the Senate vote down an Amendment to put the health care bill online 72 hours before any voting?
4 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhat is the Best Case Scenario in Afghanistan?
The General needs something like 40k more soldiers to be effective in that country. You are the General, how do you sell that requirement to the President? If we commit to that troop level, what's the best possible outcome? Is there a winning scenario with this campaign?
6 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoCan someone explain the difference between Health Insurance and any other Insurance?
I don't understand why people act like health insurance is so radically differently than other insurance. Is it?
Insurance is a form of risk management to hedge against loss. Auto, Life, Homeowners, Unemployment and Health are among the types of insurance you can buy.
I'm generally not required to buy any of those insurances. If I have the title to my home, I'm not required to have homeowners insurance. If I don't drive a car, I'm not required to carry auto insurance. Why should I be forced to buy health insurance? If I want to take that or any gamble by not buying insurance, isn't that my choice?
I will admit that by not purchasing health insurance, I could be putting a burden on others if I was admitted to the ER and couldn't pay, that burden of payment would fall on others. HOWEVER, that burden would be there whether I was forced to carry insurance or not.
If I don't make enough money to buy this mandatory insurance, then the gov't will give me tax credits to purchase insurance. Who's paying for those tax credits? All of the tax payers.
So either we pay the providers/insurance companies via higher premiums to cover loss, or we pay the gov't via taxes. Forcing (perhaps unconstitutionally) citizens to purchase health insurance won't solve anything, it will just move where the cost is incurred.
But please, explain why people are treating health insurance so differently.

It doesn't appear both could be tackled simultaneously, so we have to pick one. Which one do we address first, and why?
39 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoForce a Balanced Budget?
The state of Maine's Constitution dictates that the Governor put forth a balanced budget each year. This practically guarantees that they will not run up huge deficits, and forces them to spend only what they have.
With the estimates that this country is borrowing something near $200 million per hour, paying China $1.2B of interest alone for just the month of July, we can't continue down this path and hope to have any kind of economic prosperity, can we?
What would it take to get our reps to pass a budget that not only eliminates the deficit, but actually comes in is 10-15% under revenue so that we can start to pay down this debt? Isn't that more important than any other social program right now?
btw... don't mention Clinton's years. Those weren't real surpluses. It was fancy accounting, just google the national debt over time. It increased during the Clinton years, just like every other president for the last 40 years.
1 AnswerPolitics1 decade agoWhen will lawmakers learn?
So part of the reason we had this economic meltdown is that people were borrowing themselves into oblivion and spending money they didn't have. Washington sees this happen before their eyes, yet can't seem to stop themselves from spending and borrowing this country into oblivion for stuff that isn't necessary. Seriously, $550 mil for planes that weren't even requested? (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124960404730212955...
Does this country have to go bankrupt before we get our spending under control? Striving for deficit neutral is no longer acceptable. We need to run a real budget surplus (not the fake one Bill Clinton claimed to have run) for a number of years to get our national debt under control.
What's it going to take?
1 AnswerOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoObama Supporters: Is this the hope and change you were expecting?
We all know the president ran on a platform of hope and change (Kudos to him btw for turning 2 words with no real meaning behind them into a victory). Is this the hope and change you were expecting when you wasted your vote?
